Harris Gone

He was a late 2, early 3rd round projected pick at one time, but has since dropped to late 4th or early 5th round. Who knows. But I bet Phil is not going to be one of his references on his resume. I cannot imagine how pissed Parker was, maybe not, I could be wrong.

I have zero problem when guys who everyone knows will be high first-round picks opt out of their bowl game. They're looking at tens of millions of dollars in guaranteed money that's as good as theirs as long as they make it to draft day healthy and uninjured. No brainer.

When guys like Jermari Harris do it, it's just kind of stupid and laughable. They should be taking every opportunity they have to show out in real games with NFL scouts watching. As it stands he's a mid- to late-rounder at best.

What if, by opting out at a time like this you would lose a chance at being All B10/AA? Will athletes care about being able to say I was 1st team…?

Honestly the NCAA is toothless. Another organization needs to be in charge and start wrapping their arms around this.
I think the NCAA is sitting back and thinking hey we get blasted by the supreme court and every other lawsuit so we are going to sit back and watch the dominoes fall and then we will re-erect a system.

We have all said this is the wild wild west, no rules, pull out your 6 shooter and blast away, everyone for themselves

Absolutely right! This is what the NCAA has turned everything into. It is only going to get worse. Guys are going to start opting out earlier than the 10th game. Some will start opting out after 6 games. College football is not worth watching anymore. But we all know people will continue to watch. This is their life.
Well the ncaa was fighting a lot of this but they keep losing court cases. It is capitalism at its best or worse. It is hard to mix capitalism with amateurism.

I honestly don’t really even care. I don’t take it near as personally as I used to. I probably care more about the human aspect and the trail of fans and how they react. I would never call a kid a POS and I’m not going to judge his character. But there are a whole lot of fans on here that keep defending the system and the kids and the system gets worse and worse and worse and worse for the everyday fan.

This is not sustainable.

Now on a positive note, losing doesn’t wreck my life anymore and I’m not above skipping parts of games completely and I’ve watched very little college football comparatively this year.

Years ago, I used to watch parts of 10 to 15 games a Saturday. I’m not gonna waste my time at this age of my life.

I’d honestly rather watch Caitlin Clark play than anything else.

I wondered when stuff like this would happen (mid season departures vs skipping bowl games). Why risk injury when you have proven you are worth some big dollars at the next level? Now, if Harris is worth big dollars could be debated. But I don’t blame kids for thinking about life changing paydays.
If true, he quit in his team - who wants to draft a quitter? Showing lack of character!

I am sitting here laughing thinking about going to to ucla game and watching him get burned a few times. He is laughable. Did someone say “hey before you have anymore games like this you may want to announce you are going to focus on the pros”. Good lord.

Such a bummer...college football is losing it's heart and soul with opt outs, transfers, and NIL running rampant. It used to elicit such emotion to beat a rival school. Now it doesn't really matter because it's not going to be your best versus their best outside the playoffs.

PP’s pathetic soft scheme was killing the kid’s chances

A rare occasion I agree with you. Burn this circus down, I wouldn't miss it at all.

Well, at least from my memory 30 40 50 years ago losing games wasn’t a huge tragedy, fans weren’t constantly pretending like they knew more than the coaches, players weren’t getting paid $10 million to play college football, coaches weren’t getting $10 million to coach college football and everything wasn’t blasted 24/7 and a personal slight and a bigger than life event if you lost or for that matter eon…and you could take a family of five to a ball game without having to get a loan.

Quite frankly, we are all part of the problem, in fact, us fans are probably the biggest part of the problem… I’m not sure I even care that much anymore

Somebody gave him some very bad advice.

Unless you’re a sure fire top 40 or so pick a move like this HAS to hurt your draft standing.

He was middle round pick at best currently, don’t see this doing anything other than having team’s question his character.
Meh, i dont know. The nfl does really seem all too concerned about character and if they do, i dont think this type of issue raises any red flags

Talk about souring your legacy with one bad decision with 2 games left. Week from now he says he done. No one makes a deal about sitting out a bowl game. But Harris will always be remembered as the guy who quit on his team with 2 games left.

It does seem a bit different to say adios with 2 regular season games to go vs skipping the toilet bowl.
I do think that having contracts in place is the way to address this. It's not perfect, but it's where we are at. This is pro sports. Treat it like the professional work arrangement that it is.

There's 6 or 7 teams that will always be in the playoff every year (blue bloods) leaving 5 or 6 slots open for teams having an exceptional year so if you're hanging your hat on the playoffs being the only important thing then I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed a lot.

Poor decision on his part, his chances of making the nfl aren’t great.
His combine performance is what the NFL will look at.

Why take a chance of getting hurt now given the fact that 1/2 wins doesn't make any difference?

You just sound bitter.

Agree — makes much more sense for a certain early first round pick than a guy projected in the 5th round

You seem to know a lot about this stuff and have definitive statements of fact. I wonder what your qualifications are?

If I was a GM or owned a Team I would during the interview process at the combine ask Him You quit on Your Team, If I draft You could You tell Me why I can be sure You wont quit on My Team if We are in a tough stretch of a Season or a Game? See what His answer is . Unfortunately NFL Teams could care less if a Guy is a criminal or has horrible Character as long as they produce .

From some other tweets looks like there may be lots of crow to be eaten in this thread.
Hoping what I've seen is true and both are out for medical reasons.

After getting abused by UCLA he quits right before coming up against the leading receiver in the Big10. Is he afraid of getting shown up & hurting his draft stock even more? Chicken sh!t!! And I hope whatever football teammates he rooms with throw's his crap out on to the lawn & set it on fire! Who does this to friends and teammates?

Hope this motivates the Hawkeyes defense Saturday!!

This is absolutely hilarious.

All this noise and it's just two guys staying home injured.
