If somebody told you two weeks ago that Iowa would crush one of their next two opponents and get crushed by the other what would you say? If that same person asked you who you thought would be the victim and the abuser what would you pick?
Lastly does this sting take any of the joy from crushing the Buckeyes last week?
I would say beating Ohio State is a much bigger deal nationally than Wisconsin. It shuts up Cowherd and Herbstreit for a week and shows the country how good Kinnick is to hold a game. Ohio State is a big national draw and many recruits watched that game in that environment and the mighty Buckeyes got crushed.
You'll remember that game for years.

If I was a recruit and saw all of that I would then look at today's game and say Wisconsin's got their crap together Im going to go play for them cause their place is just as rock'n and they go play for B1G 'ships 3 out of every 4 years and go compete in the big bowls. Iowa just plays one awesome game a year and then gets taken to the woodshed in whatever bowl they go to. Thats how I'd see it if I were a quality out of state recruit. But hey it sure was fun storming the field that one time in Iowa City.
I've got the solution for you and it's not pretty but reality bites. Mediocre talent and coaching on the road against a superior opponent on both fronts. With a composite recruiting ranking of below three this is who you are. You play Ohio State 100 times and I guarantee they blow your doors several more times than you win. Great fans , I really mean it. Too bad your administration is content with the little ole Iowa your coach preaches. Nebraska will pass you up along with Minnesota if you're not careful.

very few Iowa fans have the ability to step back and say, damn, maybe Ferentz isn't the best Iowa can do. They keep shoving "consistency" (apparently consistenly mediocre is the ceiling for the Hawks?) and "clean programs" down the throats of those who argue against it.
Iowa should be right there with a shot at the big ten champ game every season. All this rebuild and we are young shtick is old.
Big difference though. We beat Michigan by one point, on a last second field goal. We took OSU out behind the woodshed and kicked them like an old cur dog. I think that was his point.

Nowhere in my initial post did I lump Minn, Neb, Oh St, Ala, & Clem together. I asked Hawkeye nation if they are in the league of Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama or Clemson. With Coach Ferentz recruiting mediocre talent and being content with pulling off a upset and contending every other year it's not close. Your recruiting is subpar and you seem content with winning one game a year you shouldn't. Doesn't that seem odd? You think Alabama or Ohio State would even want to look on their schedules and see games they shouldn't be able to compete in? Get out of this mindset and act like you belong with these teams.
Now here is where I mentioned Nebraska and Minnesota . These teams have made it their mission to get better, either by building very fine facilities(Iowa has those) and hiring a young go getter like Fleck or by maintaining their facilities and not being content with nine wins and knocking off a good team every other year. Nebraska isn't content with being below Ohio State or Michigan in the Big 10, call them foolhardy or living in the past. They are not content with mediocrity and sooner or later they will pass Iowa up if you don't show the same fire.
Last question class......... Do you want to be closer to Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan etc. , or do you want to be passed up by Nebraska and Minnesota and be left with the Purdue's and Indiana's?

People like you will buy a house at fair to below market value without knowing you just inherited a mold infested mess. You will find out these things but figure hey it's allright and call it a fixer upper. You will take out the toxic mold and be content as you start a nice stable life in a ok neighborhood. Then after 5 years your neighbor will decide to renovate their house and you will look at them and wish for the same. Your savings account is there and you could take out a fixed rate second mortgage to renovate. While pondering your decision you see a brand new housing development open up with new school zones with better educational facilities and staff.
You will ponder the move as it will lead you and your family into a higher plane. Your significant other will have turned down a great opportunity at a new firm for stability. Ultimately you will take out that second mortgage and stay where you are while fixing up your current home for stability. While throwing a party you will know you should have upgraded and when a outsider finds out you turned to stability over prosperity you will defend your decision and support your spouse while quietly agreeing with them on the inside.

That one was weird. This one was weirder. I'm frightened by how weird it'll be next year. Probably rack up a 750 yards of offense one week and have -250 the next. I guess it's better than a 17-10 loss on the road one week followed by 17-10 win at home the next. Pick your poison.

Your continued support of such bland and boring brand of football is head scratching to say the least. Your fellow Hawkeye brethren have articulated this enough and somewhere I'm sure you have to. Why does Michigan's season with an incredibly young roster and second string QB have anything to do with this? Harbaugh is a far superior coach than Ferentz , as is Meyer, Franklin and the Badger head coach no matter who they hire.

A coach that has taken a moribund program(Stanford) with strict academic standards competing against a juggernaut USC at the time to new highs and reaching the Super Bowl with San Francisco (Harbaugh) isn't any good.
A guy who took over a program rocked with sanctions and had it's brand severely tarnished(Penn State) and also took over a program in the SEC with terrible facilities and high academic standards(Vanderbilt) to relevance in James Franklin is worse than Ferentz. I assume this because like I said these three are elite recruiters, good coaches who utilize their personnel and will never sit still and rest on their past success. Your guy seems content to hang around and collect a nice check, while recruiting against the Northern Illinois's of the world. Sure he'll grab a win against Ohio State, Penn State or Michigan every once in a while. After that he'll lose in a big way to USC, Stanford, Florida or Tennessee in humiliating fashion.

So how many 5 star recruits have elite recruiters Meyer and Harbough signed to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes? If you don't understand the difference between recruiting for Michigan, OSU, Bama, USC, Texas, Florida, and recruiting for Iowa, then there's not much reason to continue the conversation. I've never believed, and still don't that there's that much difference between these coaches. Some have had the good fortune of ending up in situations that any coach would dream of. The day that Meyer, or Harbough take over as head coach at a school like Kansas, and make them a consistent winner, I'll be impressed. You know like, Snyder at KSU, Alvarerz at Wisconsin, Patterson at TCU, and yes Fry at Iowa. All of these guys took morbid programs, and made them consistent winners. Thats why their HOF coaches.

Harbaugh turned one of the worst P5 conference teams into an annual contender. Meyer started the rise of Utah which ultimately led them to P5 status. Why would those two coaches not take the chance at a Florida or the N.F.L when given the chance? I understand what you're saying though and I do agree. Don't take that as a reason to excuse your coach's laziness on the recruiting trail , or not hiring a young offensive coordinator with schemes like Oregon to offset the initial talent disparity.
With two and three star recruits littered all over your roster , combined with the stubborn approach of trying to go man to man against bigger and stronger athletes it makes little sense. Oregon won by schemes and catching opponents off guard with lower level players. I really don't know what else I can say about that.
Listen if you are happy with the boring brand of football and being a sometimes contender, cool. Just don't expect everybody to share in this thought. You saying Ferentz is a better coach than either Meyer or Harbaugh is ridiculous. Take a young Meyer or Harbaugh and put them on the Iowa coaching staff 10 years ago and I can almost guarantee you would have seen better results. Those guys are hungry go getters who would not accept this developmental program crap. Iowa is not a big glamour job sure, but it's also capable of being what the team that wiped you out on Saturday is. Wisconsin doesn't cry and whine , they smash you in the mouth and expect to beat Ohio State and Michigan every time they line up.
Meyer and Harbaugh are great coaches, I agree with you on that. Where I question you is who out there can Iowa get to reel in recruits? A hot young prospect like Campbell or Frost? A seasoned veteran like Les Miles or Burch Davis? A retread like Bret Bielema who will be canned soon? If you fire Ferentz you better have a sure fire replacement or you become a revolving door of regimes and mish mashed player to scheme ratio.
First off, I never said KF was a better HC. I said neither of them were as superior as people make them out to be. And you can guarantee me no such thing. No one has any idea what those guys would have done at Iowa. As for Oregon they benifited from a huge influx of cash and facilities from Mr. Nike, and a pretty weak PAC 12 at the time, in the same way that Missouri became relevant in the Big 12 at a time that the North had a bunch of teams who were struggling badly.

Id have to go back to 2009 I think where we beat PSU at Happy Valley. It was a complete game and it was awesome. Both offense and defense played well in that game and upset the #5 team on the road. The next week we played Arkansas State and it looked like we had never played football before. They almost beat us (24-21 ballgame). I sat in the stands and was shocked we won that game. We couldn't do a damn thing against them.
