Has there ever been a worse broadcaster/color man than Jim Calhoun? He is absolutely terrible.

I use the mute at least half the time, thanks for the tip. But I've noticed that when I mute the announcers, I also mute the crowd noise.

And in that respect, they should offer an announcer free broadcast option.

I think I read in an Uncle John's bathroom reader or maybe somewhere on here where the NFL tried that for a few select games in the late 80s and everyone hated it without the broadcast team.

I like JC. Far better than a lot of the other schmucks they put on the side lines.

We all have opinions about the announcing crew. And these are frequent topics on these boards.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM, TURN THEM THE F DOWN AND DO YOUR OWN ANALYSIS!!! YOU DON'T NEED SOMEONE ELSE TO TELL YOU WHAT YOU'RE SEEING!!!

That's all.

Peace, Hawk fans.

We all have opinions on people's opinions. If you don't like them try not reading them. Just a thought.

I read because I'm interested and I try to help. If I stop reading, how can I help?

"I keep hitting my head on this doorway! I do it every time I walk through!"

2 options: duck when you walk through or don't walk through. Problem somewhat solved.

"I don't like this noise in my ear that sounds like bad announcing!"

Turn the f'ing volume down.

That's a terrible analogy. I'm going to watch the game (so I have to go through the door). I can duck (mute) but I still want to know what is happening beyond just what they allow you to see on tv.

I think the point is it would be better if you could mute only the color guy.

I think he does fine. Just needs someone to turn up his mic.

Agreed. He's not even close to being the worst out there. I like what he says when I can hear him, I just can't hear/understand him half the time.

It was more about people constantly bitching about the announcing crews we get. Never happy or, at least, rarely happy. And then, a thread starts. Rinse. Repeat. Until the end of time.

The Hawkeye Radio team has Gary and Bobby.
Gary has a hard time keeping up with the action
yet Bobby always comes through to save the moment.

IF they tell what's going on, instead of long monologues and/or convos about basketball, but not the game you're watching.

Did you catch his commentary about bounce passing into the post throughout the game? Probably not because you were too busy not caring and just waiting for your opportunity to complain about an announcer on Hawkeye Report (like we need more threads on this).....

But you got your point your across, so that surely must count for something to you at least!!! :)
Still terrible. Go back and watch again. Incoherent ranting.

I don't mind Calhoun. I enjoy listening to any broadcaster who has been there and done it ... Maybe his delivery is not the best, but he was a heck of a coach and knows his basketball ... I'll take him over listening to a Vitale, etc., any day.

I learned vocal exercises to make my diction better. .

Yep, things like "The arsonist has oddly shaped feet, the human torch was denied a bank loan, how now brown cow and unique New York" right?

Embarrassingly painful to listen to

Calhoun is not a good color man from a technical standpoint, but some of his issues should be solvable, such as having him speak louder or turning up the volume on his mic because half the time he's mumbling, speaking too rapidly and/or talking over the pbp guy. When he can be heard I think the many of his comments are insightful and/or fun to listen to. I'm sure they've tried but I think it's worth the effort for the ESPN to teach him to become a better broadcaster. They could help him by ensuring that what he says is audible.
