This has been a weird season. The Hawks wrestled OSU early and did not wrestle tOSU or PSU. Also feels like Big Ten is down a bit. I just don't feel like the Hawks have been thoroughly tested yet. Don't get me wrong, I like this team a lot. I am just trying to evaluate how good they really are going into the final portion of the season.

I would say we have 6 weights that are capable of winning the title right now in 125,133,141,149,184,197 and will know more out of 174 after big tens. Obviously some of those guys have to wrestle the best match of their lives but it's not impossible to think thy could win a title. Also HWT is a strong AA contender he has proven and 157 has an outside shot at AA we have seen. Just because teams are down doesn't mean individuals haven't been tested. Just my opinion.

Individually they have been tested.

But out of those 6 weights listed as title contenders, I don't think our starter has wrestled the #1 ranked guy this season. I'd like to think all of our guys at those weights are knocking at the championship door, but I wish we would have seen some of these match ups before B10s and NCAAs.

I don't really care. In the past some of our wrestlers faced the same top guy three times in a season and I hated that.
There are lots of examples - McD wrestled Precin three times and, if I'm remembering correctly, didn't he wrestle Andrew Long four times his freshman year. I'm okay with what's happening this years, most of our guys will meet the top guy in the Big Tens.

This is the correct answer. Maybe with the exception of Gilman. But he gets tested in the practice room more than any one else in the country vs McD, Clark, Ramos, Dennis. I think he will be just fine.

As a team they really haven't been tested except for Okie St, but each of the guys have been tested individually through out the season...even if the dual wasn't close.

Gilman: Klimara, Rodriguez, Rios, Lambert, Oliver
Clark: Harding, Hall, Giraldo, Richards, Taylor, Montoya
Grothus: Thorn
Sorenson: Collica, Moreno, Sueflohn x2, Tsirtsis x2,
Cooper: Marstellar, Pack, Gantt, Lewis, I-Mar, Berger
Rhoads: Dieringer, Jordan, Rodrigues, Welch, Weatherman x2, Wilson
Meyer: Crutchmer, Walters, Barnes, Jackson
Brooks: Gravina, Zillmer x2, TAYLOR, Renda, Dudley
Burak: Studebaker x2, Pfarr
Stoll: Marsden, Smith x2, Gwiz, Peck, Larson, Black, Kroells

Gilman - none of the other big 4
Clark - No Garret, Brewer, Conaway
Sorenson - Good tests with Tsirtsis and Sueflohn, but we all know there is only one guy he really needs to measure against.
Cooper - Yes he has been tested
Meyer - None of the top 5
Brooks - Good test with Taylor, but none of the top 3 at this weight
Burak - Pfarr was a good test, but Mcintosh and Cox are the guys to beat
Stoll - Yes he has been tested

Other then a couple of guys, we haven't matched up against the top contenders at most of these weights, the kind of guys that will need to be beaten to win titles.

Looking at what our better wrestlers have done against top 10 guys. I would say we have yet to be tested by some of the top 10 guys.

Gilman has wrestled the #5 guy and won
Clark has wrestled the #2 guy and lost
BS has wrestled the #2 guy and won and the #4 guy and won That said the #2 guy is way down now
Meyer has wrestled the #4 and #7 guy and lost both
Brooks has wrestled the #7 guy and lost
Burak has wrestled the #2 guy and lost beat #6 & #7 wrestler.
Sam Stoll has wrestled the #1 guy and lost #5 guy and lost beat the # 8 guy

I love the continued Grothus national champ optimism, but I'm not seeing it. I think he can get himself some wins at B10s and the national tourney, but he has an uphill battle. He's likely going to get matched up with one of the top seeds at B10s and if he loses, he has to wrestle his a** off in the wrestle backs just to qualify the weight. Dean Heil, Kevin Jack, Anthony Ashnault and Joey McKenna are all heads and shoulders above him right now. He looked good against Thorn, but came up short. Everything has to go his way just to get on the podium, let alone winning it all. Crossing my fingers, but trying to stay realistic.

The Hawks were tested at the Grapple, but not since. It's been a strange season the way the dual schedule worked out. It feels like there are only 3 meaningful events this season: Grapple, Midlands, and B1Gs/Nationals. Even Midlands was a blowout, partly due to weather that prevented some teams/individuals from participating. Feels like we are in a "wrestling hole" since 30 December.
