Hawkeye Women’s BBall Season 2021-2022

Can't have games when the NBA / NHL are cancelling for the same reason. But what is the point of any sport canceling games? It's not slowing the spread. Virtually every other part of society is wide open. And as long as players are vaccinated, there is virtually no risk of a player getting seriously ill. Anyone read anything suggesting anything different?

Are some percentage of people with Covid still getting myocarditis? Does the vaccine prevent people from getting it?

If people are still getting myocarditis and the vaccine doesn't prevent it, that's a pretty big issue. Last year Marco Rossi, a Minnesota Wild prospect, got myocarditis from Covid. He didn't know that initially, though, and tried to play after he tested negative again. He got seriously sick as a result, and had to sit out most of a year. If the Wild doctors didn't find the myocarditis and he kept playing, he could've died.

Obviously team medical staffs know far more about this than I do, but my biggest concern is that a player could get Covid, get myocarditis, keep playing, and have catastrophic consequences as a result.

New Big Ten Forfeiture Policy

“If a team or teams is/are unable to participate in a scheduled Conference competition due to COVID-19, and as a result the competition is unable to occur on the calendar day on which it is scheduled, the competition will not automatically be considered a forfeiture. Upon review and approval by the Conference office, in consultation with the participating institutions and the Big Ten Chief Medical Officer, Dr. James Borchers, the competition may be rescheduled, or declared a no contest or a forfeiture. The Conference office will be responsible for rescheduling any conference competition postponed due to COVID-19.“

There are tons of players already playing with Covid. They are just asymptomatic. They only get tested if they show symptoms.

I understand needing a policy to be flexible, but saying a game might be declared a no contest or a forfeit and not giving any criteria for when it will be one or the other isn't great.

I hope they rethink things and try to reschedule the missed games. Iowa is in good shape right now. They got through their covid pause. Iowa is ready to play. But you can't have Iowa play Penn State when several of the PSU players/staff have tested positive for covid and have symptoms (are not feeling good). Iowa does not want to get exposed to PSU; PSU could cause Iowa to have another outbreak and another pause.

And I agree with you; as long as players are vaccinated, there is virtually no risk of a player getting seriously ill. But the problem is when an athlete or athletes do not feel well, which prompts the covid tests. And then who else gets tested? What are the protocols NOW?

I would be interested in knowing how many PSU players/staff tested positive and how many could have played. But, the protocols are not clear right now for when a team has several players/staff testing positive. Other than forcing the whole team on pause, that is.

Rule says you need 7 players and one countable coach available to play.

I won't claim to have seen anywhere near all the games, as it's only large parts of 3 of them this year, but since I'm a bit bored, I'll answer:).
Her shot selection has always had some head-scratching moments in both years, IMO. While unquestionably a great player, there are moments where you think "why?!" even if they happen to go in. I don't think it's a mechanics issue, and without seeing a shot chart, I can't say with authority if her questionable shots this year are more frequent or from worse locations, compared to last season. I would say they just aren't going in as frequently.
Not going in as frequently? Lower percentage? Wow, who knew?

To those fully vacinated, their risk of serious symptoms is reduced but not 0. Hospitals are getting their surge from largely unvaccinated people. Personally those that didn't get vaccinated deserve it
You go man! Smokers who get lung cancer, drug users who get hepatitis and drinkers who get liver disease should suffer too.

Disappointed they didn’t pursue a possible game for the 27th a bit harder.

South Dakota St, Southern Illinois, Evansville and Green Bay are all somewhat in the area, have had a game canceled at some point and had the 27th open.

Evansville actually plays at UNI the 30th, so that would fit perfectly on the 27th.
I’m a genius

The bad news-Evansville is 215 in the NCAA Net. The good news-Illinois is 222.
The bottom of the Big Ten is terrible this year. Wisconsin (234) lost at home to 1-8 Chicago State (311- would've been even lower but for the Wisconsin win).

I know the loss to IUPUI stings, but IUPUI would probably finish somewhere around the middle of the conference if they were in the Big Ten. That loss isn't as bad as we might otherwise think.

Hopefully headed up to Minneapolis to see Olivia Olson play in their Holiday Tournament today.
Mentioned this in the recruiting thread. They went to see 2023 F Ruthie Loomis-Goltl from Bridgeport, NE. She does not have an offer, but visited in September for a football game.
