Hawkeye Women’s BBall Season 2021-2022

I don't think they stopped play and went over and look at it. They did look at a different one. I'll check it when I watch the replay.
They reviewed the Markowski foul (which was not called a foul and was after Haiby fouled clark and then Markowski's arm grazed clark while clark was finishing.

The Haiby foul on Marshall was not reviewed but it really should have been. She swung her elbow for the sole purpose of creating space as Marshall was guarding her tight. But you can't swing your elbows 30 feet from the basket. It should only be acceptable fighting for a rebound and then only if contact is unintentional.

What Haiby did, no matter if it was hard or not, was not a basketball move and could have potentially caused a serious injury. Haiby should have been ejected for those antics.

I didn’t think they looked at it either unless they looked at a commercial break. I was surprised the Haiby foul wasn’t a F1 or F2.

The one with Coley it looked like she grabbed McKenna around the neck and threw her down. Looked very dirty and worse than Haiby. Live I knew McKenna was upset as was Kate but until I saw the replay didn’t realize how severe. In my opinion the B1G office should take a look at it.
I'll went back and looked at it. Coley had her arm wrapped around Warnock's shoulder and pulls her to the ground. It should have been an intentional foul and ejection as well.

Bluder definitely needs to have the game tape reviewed by the league for the officiating to be reviewed.

The refs were influenced by the crowd and let them play and then called some ticky tack fouls on Iowa like the 4th foul on Martin.

Coley was also involved in a play in the Michigan game that was dirty. She may have issues. She is not like Chase at all.

I rewatched the Coley/Warnock incident several times, and it was very clear that Coley hooked her arm around McKenna’s neck and threw her down. Not only did Kate see it, but Monica did, too. They were were both pointing. Amazing that two refs completely missed it. I agree that the B1G office should look at it.

If something like that happens again on Sunday hawk fans better get loud

All of the crap that went uncalled, and they decided the one on Martin must have warranted a call. What a joke.

There is a reason she was not recruited by Iowa.

It is not fair to assume too much from just a few encounters, but I sat near the Coley family (including Kendall) a few times during Chase's playing career at Iowa. From what I saw, they were thrilled with Chase's role on the team and were not shy about sharing their displeasure.

They had no reason to complain. She started almost every game at forward but split time because we were deep and many of the other forwards at the time had range from deep.

She was not going to get minutes at center with Doolittle/Gustafon. She split time most of her career but still played 20-25 minutes a game. I always thought Bluder was very fair in ensuring players got their minutes and rotating bodies kept everyone fresh.

Chase was a really good player on teams that happened to have a lot of really good players. But she was lucky to get the minutes she did early in her career. Mohns and Kali Paschal were better players but both suffered from the injury bug.

Both Kendall and Anika seem to have attitude problems and I think Iowa really dodged a bullet. Maybe it's just being at Nebraska though. From the coach down, the whole team seemed pretty immature.

Something to consider as we worry about depth: so far this year, we've scored significantly more points in the 1st and 3rd quarters than the 2nd and 4th quarters.

If that trend only appeared in the 4th quarter, I wouldn't think much of it. Putting the backups into a few 4th quarter blowouts could limit scoring some. But that the point spread is fairly significant already and appears in both the 2nd and 4th quarters makes me wonder if fatigue is impacting the team's shooting some.

Last year, the 2nd quarter was also our worst scoring quarter, but the difference wasn't as dramatic. 2 years ago, the 2nd quarter was actually our best scoring quarter.

I wasn't intending to double post, but this Caitlin Clark update is worthwhile, I think.

Compared to last year, she is: averaging 6% higher on shots from 2, 4.6% higher on free throws, 2.2 more rebounds per game, and nearly 1 less turnover per game. She also has improved her steals and blocks slightly, and her assists per game is the same as last year.

Literally her only stats that are worse than last year are three-point shooting percentage (down 16.7%) and points per game (which is only down 1.3 ppg). I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that if she was shooting threes this year like she did last year, that she'd be a frontrunner for player of the year.

It's also worth noting she has taken more twos and fewer threes over the last few games, and has made those two-point shots at a much higher rate. She appears to be attacking the basket more to compensate for the shooting issues, which is good.

If she finds her shot from outside it may be nearly impossible to stop her from scoring 30-35 a game.

At least they squeezed the Illinois game in between 2 home games, Hopefully the covid is behind them now, and no more injuries so they can but a long run together.

Yeah I could see this shooting drought make her a better player overall if her shooting form returns eventually. Now it's forcing her to attack the basket, and she's getting better at making shots from 2 in the process. She's also getting to the line more, which is great given that she shoots free throws so well.

I agree. Obviously everyone including her is itching for her 3-point shot to come back but it has oddly helped her become a better overall player. Who knows if her shot is even gonna come back this season? But if you would’ve told me that her last 3 games she’s averaging 35 points with barely any 3’s I don’t think I’d believe you.

Rough start. Huskers playing fired up and shooting 7/11 from the floor.

Hawkeyes take a timeout down 16-5.

Iowa end the half on a 13-2 run and outscores Nebraska 27-12 in the quarter.

HALFTIME
Nebraska 42 Iowa 41

-Points-
Czinano 12
Clark 11
Warnock 5

-Rebounds-
Warnock/Clark 5
Martin 4

-Assists-
Clark 4

Fouls have definitely become the story after Nebraska's huge first quarter. On the one hand, a few of the fouls against Nebraska have been somewhat weak calls. On the other, Nebraska is playing more physically than Iowa is, and isn't really attacking the basket much on offense. You have to put yourself in a position for fouls to be called.

No fouls for Iowa in the second quarter. I can see there might have been one that could have been called on Iowa, towards the end of the half, but that's it. Iowa players just don't make contacts on defense.

86-81 with :32.7 and Clark shooting two. Looking like it could be a clean sweep for the Hawkeyes on BTN toda. The men beat Minnesota. The wrestlers crushed the Illini. And the women have a 7 point lead with under a minute to go.
