Markowski will be one of them with her 6 of 7 from three.
I don't think Nebraska will shoot the way they did today all season long. But I do expect them to continue to improve and be a very dangerous team in March. They could make a run in the tourney.Another shootout between these two. Nebraska played essentially without three starters.
If they meet in the BTT it will be intense
Sydney has a ways to go before seeing the floor on a regular basis. The minutes she has gotten she hasn't looked comfortable out there yet. Tomi only got 2 minutes today too so Lisa has went back to a short rotation as she has a tendency to do as the season goes on. I hope Feuerbach & O'Grady start contributing more when on the floor it will take some of the stress of the starters.Looking ahead, is there any hope that Affolter can help this year? The Hawks could really use some help off the bench besides Feuerbach and O’Grady.
From what I can remember, Nebraska had Iowa's number at times in the early years of the Huskers joining the conference but the games were always intense, even as Iowa started turning things around and Nebraska began to decline a bit.Another shootout between these two. Or Notre Dame will snatch her up, like what happened to their previous All American center.Markowski is gonna be a pain in the butt for another 3 years. She's a gamer.
Michigan beats Maryland at Maryland .
Brenda Frese's dad passed away early in the day. No doubt that affected the whole team.Beat them by 20. I watched part of the game, and Maryland made a three with 8:53 left in the 2nd quarter, and never scored again, hard to believe. I think Michigan only scored 5 points the rest of the quarter as well.
I vote yes, even though I am still hopeful that Feuerbach can help off the bounce.I wonder if Lisa will go the the portal this year to get some ball handling help forCaitlin ?
I think best case scenario on that front would be getting a 2 who could also slide over and play backup 1 for 5-8 minutes per game. I don't think Iowa is an attractive landing spot for someone who primarily plays the 1.I wonder if Lisa will go the the portal this year to get some ball handling help forCaitlin ?

I like this idea. Lots of teams are very successful with two combo guards who are equally comfortable running the point when needed. A fantastic example is Oregon during Ionescu's time there. A lot of people remember Sabrina as a PG, but she actually played off the ball a lot with Maite Cazorla running the point. Oregon this year even has two PG's with Paopao and the transfer from USC Endiya Rogers. Other examples: Northwestern last year (Burton and Hamilton), Nebraska this year (Haiby and Shelley), Indiana (all three of their guards are great ball handlers). UConn even operated this way for quite a bit of last year, with Muhl running the point to get Bueckers looks off the ball.I think best case scenario on that front would be getting a 2 who could also slide over and play backup 1 for 5-8 minutes per game. A few years ago, we did basically the same thing with Doyle, Davis, and Meyer all capable of handling the ball. Doyle became more of a true on-ball PG her senior season, but she didn't do it as much before that.I like this idea. I think it depends on how seriously the coaches want to compete over the next 2 seasons. The team now is still improving, but probably won't ever have more than an outside chance at a Final 4 run as currently constructed. My uninformed impression is that Feuerbach is an exceptional situation due to her history with players on the Iowa team. Iowa also appears to be "family" (everyone claims to be) oriented. Accordingly, I would be surprised if Iowa looked at the portal baring a significant injury. Even then, I further guess, it would be someone they seriously recruited out of high school. Am I wrong?
the tweet was about Fuerbach. I do not think the coaches reached out to DorkaDidn't we try and get Dorka from the portal? I thought I remembered seeing a tweet from Jan that her son was trying to get her land a great player from the portal and I know there were some talks on this board about it. Not sure officially though.
There will be a lot more opportunity to make an impact next year depending on who stays and who goes.I think it depends on how seriously the coaches want to compete over the next 2 seasons. I also don't think there's anyone in next year's freshman class that is going to step in right away and make a huge impact. They might fill a role like this year's freshman, but I doubt any will be starters.
The only way I think the team could add a starter to make a run with Clark is through the transfer portal. As I said above, a defense-first wing option who can also handle the ball some would improve the team significantly.
Will a player like that be in the portal this off-season? No idea. Would the coaches go after said player? Again, no idea. But if they want the best shot possible at a deep tournament run, they should go after a player like that.
I would be shocked if Martin left. Unless she wants to move on with her life for some reason, there's no real reason for her to. Most people really like being in college, and she can work toward an advanced degree while still very likely being a starter. There will be a lot more opportunity to make an impact next year depending on who stays and who goes.
Monica, Logan and Tomi are seniors and Kate is a RS JR. All four should graduate and could potentially move on after the season or opt to return. Of the four I could see Kate as the most likely to return given she lost time to injury and may want to have another year but I'd put odds at her returning at around 30% unless the team makes a run and she feels like she has unfinished business.
That being said, I also would not be surprised if all four chose to leave after the season. If that happens, I expect Stuelke to step in and fill Martin's role.
McCabe will see minutes as a backup at the 1 and 2. Gyamfi will see minutes at the 4/5. How many will depend on how well others develop.
The 4-5 rotation will not be set to start the season. A lot depends on the health of Goodman and Wetering. Goodman will likely be competing with O'Grady to start if Monica leaves but Gyamfi has the potential to steal minutes if either is not ready. O'Grady still needs to develop her body and it could take a while for Goodman to get her conditioning back.
Wetering is likely starting over being she's suffered injuries two years in a row so I don't see her playing much.
There is still a possibility we add a transfer guard even with the incoming freshman and I believe that Bluder should pursue a combo guard who can back up the point and can score on the perimeter.
Yup, I'd bet money that Martin has already applied to a master's degree at Tippie.I would be shocked if Martin left. Unless she wants to move on with her life for some reason, there's no real reason for her to. I believe Stuelke will help the rebounding next year.If Czinano comes back we could be very good next year, at least on the offensive side of the ball. But, I don't see her getting much if any better on defense and rebounding. That beening said we will be loaded at the 4/5 with most being at the 5.
Lisa is old school and if she doesn't change I could see alot of players going into the portal every year.
Minnesota shouldn't be a problem. They are bad Indiana cancelled their Wednesday game against MSU due to COVID. They could be shorthanded on Sunday if they are able to play.Iowa is back in the AP Poll at No. 25. However, unranked Oregon is pounding UConn right now and they will surely move into the rankings next week. Iowa had better win both games this week, at Minnesota and home vs. Indiana, or its return to the polls will be a short one.
Indiana has already been down two starters recently, Holmes their all-Big Ten center out with a knee injury and Cardano-Hillary former AT10 POY out with Covid. Too bad Purdue couldn't have held on for a win yesterday. With Maryland losing to Michigan yesterday, the Big Ten race looks a lot more wide open now.Minnesota shouldn't be a problem. Would be nice to beat IN at home. Need to keep playing defense and control the boards to have a shot.
I hope you’re right, but I wouldn’t count on an easy victory. Minnesota can be a mess on both ends of the court, and Whalen has yet to prove she can really coach. But the Gophers have athletes that can be a problem for Iowa. Sissoko and Winters are both super athletic, and I would take the Gophers’ freshman post (Micheaux) over anyone in Iowa’s freshman class. Scalia can also really shoot the ball.Minnesota shouldn't be a problem. They are bad . . .
I think right now it’s ok. Remember they had a 2 week break, a 10 day break and then another 11 day break, so the’ve had a lot of rest. They are probably in a better spot freshness wise than they normally would be at this point in the season.I checked the box score and was surprised that Feuerbach only played 13 minutes. What was even more surprising is the starters all played between 34 and 38 minutes. Between injuries and overwork, aren't we asking for trouble? Seems like by end of season these ladies will be worn out.
I would like to see O'Grady at the 4 as a backup in games against larger front lines. She has a some range, brings rebounding, and defends the rim. It seems we are undersized in some of the games. I think 4/5 get really crowed in the next year or two assuming Monica is back.I believe Stuelke will help the rebounding next year.
this team is really missing Goodman..... I expected her to damn near be as good as Monica this yearI would like to see O'Grady at the 4 as a backup in games against larger front lines.
