Hawkeye Women’s BBall Season 2021-2022

Iowa needs to sell its triple double record to PG recruits. Samantha Logic holds the BIG record with 6 currently but Clark will shatter it by the time she graduates.

58-15 in the 2nd half.
But...starters stayed in the game a lot longer than they should have.

I thought Kachine Alexander had more than 6 triple doubles. By the way she is now an assistant coach at James Madison.

I agree completely. There are two great PG recruits from the area (Minnesota and Nebraska) in the 2024 class. Hopefully Clark's play does enough to sell one or both of them.

Without the Northwestern loss, we'd arguably be favorites to win the Big Ten right now. We haven't played any of the top teams yet, but Indiana just lost a dominant post, Michigan got blown out by Nebraska already, and Maryland has 3 losses and looks like a mess.

Watched MD/OSU tonight. MD did not handle the press well and played out of control. Lots of fouls by MD. They are still dangerous but played with very little discipline tonight.

That being said if MD plays like a team instead of as 5 superstars they could be dangerous yet. OSU will be tough and their PG is very similar to Clark.

Fortunately the key to beating both teams is attack the glass and shut down driving lanes and Iowa can do that with its 1-3-1. If we can get the shots to fall and keep it close, we'll be in a good position for the upset.

Take of the night right here.^ Minnesota had the worst transition D of any team I've watched this year.

Also,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONIKA :D
Iowa broke the press like butter with Caitlin. One of the reasons she stayed in. We struggled late in the game with just Kylie as a ball handler. Minnesota seemed to give up in the 3rd quarter and that's when it got out of control. The ladies were able to get their swagger back once the 3s started falling.

Here's my recap of the Minnesota blowout. There's also some discussion of Clark's confidence. Just before her recent run of 30-pt 8-assist games, she seemed to get her confidence back in general. Tonight, she finally shot well from three and mentioned having more confidence in her shot. If she starts shooting well from three again... the sky is the limit.

Yep, this was all but announced during the postgame radio interview with Bluder. Seems like they got an agreement from another head coach to come play but things still had to be made official.
I could be wrong but I think it's Illinois? I'm guessing Nebraska is still having covid issues and had to postpone their game with Illinois

Ahhh that would make sense. The word "Illinois" was definitely audible in the background but I didn't put 2 and 2 together. Here is a link to the recording (timestamp 2:21:40):

I would guess it’s a non-conference opponent. Illinois game has been rescheduled for 2/12.

They could potentially play the Illinois game this weekend, then play Indiana on 2/12 instead. Indiana's 2/10 game could be moved up a day if that's a concern.

Alternatively, Iowa and Illinois could play a non-conference game (though I don't know why Illinois would do so voluntarily). I checked the schedules for other mid-major schools with Illinois in their name, and they all seem to play Saturday or Sunday.

Makes sense to have the healthy teams play now to free up dates later in the season for rescheduling. Other conferences have been doing this to some extent.

That’s boring, but a very reasonable thing that could happen.

Bluder definitely muttered the word "Illinois" in the post-game interview on the radio. Not sure if she was referring to a directional Illinois school or not
Yeah I heard it. All the directional Illinois schools have games. Doubt the Big Ten moves an Illinois home game 48 hours before it happens.

This is the perfect illustration of the flaws in the NET rankings. Since it takes into account the margin of victory, the formula will highly reward a blowout win, especially on the road against a not rock bottom team. So after last night, we jumped from NET #30 all the way up to #16. This also explains why a team like Nebraska is still so high, since they had so many blowout victories earlier in the season.

Ohio State beat Maryland and dropped from 27 to 30 in the NET. Very odd.
Like it or it not, the NET is largely about winning by big margins against decent teams on the road. Ohio State "only" beat Maryland (NET #21) by 6 points at home. Let's look at the three teams who jumped over them:
--Iowa beat #93 Minnesota 105-49 on the road, so we moved from #30 up to #16.
--Arkansas beat #63 Alabama 99-71 on the road, so they moved up from #34 to #28.
--Ole Miss beat #41 Texas A&M 80-63 on the road, so they moved up from #32 to #27.

You need to post this for the folks complaining about the starters getting too much playing time. It is REALLY important to be in the top 16 when the brackets come out in March.
