Hawkeye Women’s BBall Season 2021-2022

Still perplexed as to why the game isn’t Friday or Saturday. Have no idea why Michigan State game got rescheduled over the Iowa game.
The conference is going to prioritize making sure all teams play each other at least once, where possible. Michigan State and Indiana hadn't played yet, and we already have a game on the books with Indiana, so that's why our game isn't the first rescheduling priority.

Just my opinion, but if you're getting moved on a boxout, you're not boxing out correctly. The player closer to the basket should have the advantage. It's easier to push back than forward. I say that as a 5'8' male who played a lot of post in high school. Basically the only way I could get rebounds was by boxing out well.

I think our biggest problem other than Czinano being a solidly below average rebounder for a 5 is that our guards/wings ball watch too much. Watching Michigan, their guards are great at moving toward the basket when a shot goes up. They do it most possessions. Hillmon is of course a great rebounder, but having 4-5 bodies around the basket is a huge help.

Clark is really good at moving towards the basket sometimes, but she ball watches a lot too. Marshall basically doesn't rebound at all. Taiwo and Feuerbach are slightly better than Marshall, but not significantly so.

I want to see the whole team crashing the glass on every possession. Clark can push transition even if no one else has a head start. I think securing stops is more important than the few cherry-pick runouts we get when the guards try to get in transition early.
A lot of spot-on here, well done!

Thinking outside the box, the NCAA Tournament selection show is March 13th, but the Big Ten Tournament ends March 6. Could we play that game sometime during the week in between those? Otherwise, I really don't see where it fits.
I was told by the person selling tickets at Carver it will be rescheduled.

They’re missing Warnock.... she’s a pretty good rebounder..... man if Goodman was healthy they’d really be special.....on the plus side of all this Taiwo seems to me to be playing better every game with all the extra playing time

I prefer watching the Iowa women play to the men this year..... keep telling my friends that don’t watch the women’s games they need to tune in and watch C.C. and co. play

With senior day approaching, I wonder if Monika will have a decision by then? Or she might wait until after the NCAA tournament?

In the post game interview, Jan also made it sound like it’ll be rescheduled.
I would sure like to see how they squeeze it into Iowa and Indiana's schedules. I had thought maybe the 22nd, but the Iowa men have a home game that night. The only way I see it happening is to move Iowa's game at Rutgers from Thursday to Friday, then having Iowa play Indiana here on Wednesday the 23rd. That would give Iowa five days off from the 14th to the 20th, followed by 4 games in 8 days to end the regular season.

This is a B1G tournament seed generator. The games on Feb 21-23 (grouped together) now show Iowa and Indiana as a game and it did not previously so I would guess it would be on one of those date probably the 22nd considering we play on the 20th and 24th (unless one of those gets moved by a day or so)

See my post above. The Iowa men have a home game on the 22nd. I can't see them moving it.

They could start the game at 8:30 or 9. The teams have had double-headers in the past. It's certainly not ideal, but probably better than trying to moving the Rutgers date.
Another option would be to switch home games for Iowa and Indiana between the 20th and 22nd. Just trying to think of all possibilities.

Oof that’s a rough tip time 😅 There won’t be as many fans as there could be there that’s for sure
Or they could play earlier in the old North Gym at the Field House, as the Iowa women occasionally did circa 1975.

Glad we're getting that home game in but it's a bit puzzling to me since the Indiana/Rutgers game still hasn't been rescheduled yet. Wonder if there are more changes to come.

Really curious now what Iowa needs to do to reach a 4 seed now.

3-2 finish would give you 2 Q1 wins and 2 Q1 losses to close.
Would be 19-8, 7-5 vs Q1, 4-3 vs Q2, 8-0 vs Q3/Q4

Big Ten Tournament first round would give you a Q4 game first matchup if you were the #5 seed. #3/#4 seed and unless there is a big upset your first game would be a Q1 team (Neb,OSU).

Question is...would 20-9, 8-6 Q1 be enough? That's assuming you win the BTT opener (as a #3/#4) and lose in the semifinals. If they are the #5 then they will have to go 2-1 for 21-9, 8-6 Q1.

We were projected as a 6 seed prior to yesterday's game. I think we need to go 4-1 to finish the season and advance to the BTT semi to get a 4 seed. We don't really have any great marquee wins against the field other than Nebraska and UCF. If UNI were to win the MVC that would help as it would get them in the field.

If we go 3-2, we probably need to go to the final game in the BTT and have a win over 1 of OSU/IN/MI or MD.

Obviously IN/MI wins in either the regular season or BTT help us the most.

There will be a top 16 seed release today from the selection committee so we can also see where other teams stand as of yesterday.

We've got a chance to make a lot of noise right now

It might depend in part on who we actually beat to finish 3-2. Maryland is probably ahead of us right now. If we beat them, that helps in our chance to jump them. Indiana is well above us right now, but if we sweep them, they drop an extra game or two, and Holmes isn't back, they could conceivably drop below a 4 seed.

I remember being pleasantly surprised by a 5 seed last year. The consensus seemed to be that our strong finish to the year elevated us slightly higher than one might have expected from our resume. Getting several Q1 wins late in the year could do the same thing this year. And Clark's growing star power likely helps that a bit if things are close.

With Michigan's loss tonight, if Iowa wins out and Michigan wins out except at Iowa, does Iowa get the 1 seed in the Big Ten tournament?

It depends on how Indiana does and if other games are made up. With the games currently scheduled, Iowa would finish 15-3, Michigan 14-3, and Indiana could finish 13-3. There wouldn't be a tiebreaker in that scenario. Iowa would win outright. If other games are rescheduled and teams tie, I believe the first tiebreaker is record vs. the other tied teams. if those records are identical, it moves to a second tiebreaker.

I forgot about Ohio State. If they also win out, they will be 15-3 as well, and have a head-to-head win against Iowa.

IU has got to be clamoring to play Rutgers, especially with the benefit that Rutgers sucking has given to Maryland and OSU. With Rutgers unexpectedly cratering to form a clear bottom 4 (Ill, WI, RU and PSU), Maryland and OSU get to play those 4 teams a total of 6 times, while Iowa gets to play 4 games against the bottom 4. IU is scheduled for 5, but that includes the missing Rutgers game, which, if not scheduled, would leave them with the short end along with Iowa.

I agree with your overall point that IU would really want the Rutgers game rescheduled. But Maryland will only play those bottom teams 5 times, not 6; RUx2, PSUx2, and WIx1. Maryland's game @ Ill hasn't been rescheduled.

I see on the Big Ten website section for women's basketball statistics that Joe Touissant is listed as playing in 1 game for the Iowa women for 6 minutes. Guess I missed that one. What a secret weapon.
It also means all the averages are off for the Iowa women, since it says they have now played 14 conference games instead of 13. Maybe Kyle or Braydon can contact the Big Ten office to get it corrected.

Joe Touissant would solve a lot of our athleticism issues. I say suite him up for the Maryland game since the conference has already endorsed it.
