Here's a sobering stat...

Good seed/performance stats goethe that was interesting.

But as amazing as Barry Bonds home run records were this is a wrestling message board.

I have no idea what you’re saying. I tried. Ha.
You said we get a pass because penn state whooped everybody. Why didn’t we whoop who penn state whooped? We took 3rd and lost a lot of matches we should’ve won. Bull, murin, Cass and eierman. None of which were to penn state. You following? I know eierman was hurt but still think he was better than where he finished and should’ve won one of those. But the more I think about it, I’ll scratch him from the list. Tough dude who couldn’t hang. The rest though, inexcusable. Maybe you have one outlier on a championship squad but 3 or 4 losing multiple matches they should win is concerning. That’s all. Not trying to be an ass directly to you either. I’m just pointing out that we looked bad and things don’t exactly look up. My concerns and they don’t mean shit but that’s why we’re here, I think.

I hear you and I respect that you feel that way. It was a difficult season for a lot of reasons.
Agreed. I took some time and backed away from the ledge. I love the squad and they did their best. Just pissed psu did psu things again. I wish it was more competitive but that’s the nature of these things sometimes. We have work to do. Im not going to bash our beloved Hawkeyes any more than I have. Im going to appreciate all they have done and relish the national championship that they did win.

Coaching should be blamed for this poor performance, every other team was ready to go. Injuries are clearly the scapegoat here, but I doubt we see different results without them. We are putting 25-26 year olds out there, clearly past their prime, because we can't recruit... injuries were bound to happen.
25 and 26 year olds are not past their prime. That is probably the peak of their prime. Scholarships were not available because great wrestlers still had them and wanted to compete. I suppose you would prefer to throw them under the bus rather than let them fulfill their dream.

Im not sure you understand the meaning of “scapegoat.”
Even after the poster said that unjuries were the scapegoat, it was my impression that the poster was blaming the coaches. A scapegoat is one that bears the blame for others. It was my impression that the TnT were bearing the blame for other problems.

The real "scapegoat" is saying injuries should not weigh on coaching performances.

TNT cannot be the “scapegoat” for their own problems.

Why didn’t we look stronger? And why haven’t we looked stronger against the same competition? We won a title. Yay! One. That’ll be it for a while. It sucks. We had zero champs, didn’t sniff a team title and we won’t next year either. Spencer, and that’s it. Is that good enough for you? It sounds like it but hey…expectations and all.
I'm Sorry. "Spencer and that's it" ?? Are you serious? I might not be an IOWA fan but I have a functioning brain unit and am pretty objective. I would hope your words are that of a fan disappointed. But to dismiss Warner and Cassioppi as basically nothing is pretty cruel and certainly not accurate. When you add in Murin, Brands, Kennedy, Assad and others....Iowa has a pretty salty lineup next year. A lineup that 98% of NCAA teams would take in a heartbeat. Yes...injuries suck. But every team has/had them. The important part is what injuries. Starocci had a broken hand. He was able to adjust and survive. Kemdog had a bad shoulder. You can't hide that injury forever. Remember when Nolf dislocated his Kneecap. He was able to change the way he wrestled. Rode Micah Jordan for a 15-0 shutout. But Nolf is Rare. Just Like Spencer was able to win with no ACLs. He is also a Unicorn. But humans have to deal with being human. You can wrestle with a bad hand. RBY was heavily taped and admitted he had to heal. Poor Jaydin lost an ACL. His wrestling style limited him more severely. Same with others. Iowa finished 3rd....against a very stacked and experienced Michigan team as well as PSU. You want to crucify the coaching staff? Life happens. Iowa was dealt some crappy cards this year. I thought Desanto and Warner and others were Top-shelf....on and off the mat. Put away the knives and appreciate what they did and what you have coming next year. Peace

"their own problems." That's the issue, isn't it?
I meant scapegoat for poor performance. Poor performance is the problem, and making TnT bear all of that responsibility is my complaint.

Grapplefann first off I have the poster you were responding to on ignore but as far as your assertion re the coaches...

I don't agree that the coaching staff underperformed. In more recent years, since "Grapple on the Gridiron" Hawk fans have enjoyed more than their share of success thanks to the coaching staff. That includes Big Ten titles, Big Ten Champs, an NCAA team title, NCAA champs, NCAA finalists, and a lot of All-American's who unglued us from our seats at home and in CHA more times than I can remember.

But yeah, there are "moments" that prove your statement true I think that's human nature and a big part of what we love about this sport. So many in the world never have to pass a litmus test and we put those tests to this team constantly. But overall, looking at their body of work over the years, this staff has done anything but underperform.
