Hidlay to NC State.

Great class last year followed up by what? A heavyweight and Nelson? That’s extremely weak. I’m disgusted. No momentum.
It has to be disappointing to Lee, who talked about getting other top guys to Iowa. Especially not even contacting Brooks. Our recruiting seems random and misguided. We need a recruiting coordinator.
then Lee needs to take less money's....remember we do it by the book......

We aren’t even contacting kids.
Your information as to who we are and are not contacting is coming from where? Here? Like exactly how much of a scholarship we were interested in giving to Hilday and Teske to be projected back ups for 2 or more years. Posters need to decide if they want top rated p4p guys or just possible AA guys. Hilday was ALWAYS only seen as a possible AA even before the round of 32. Did we want him, yes, but not at full price.

If we don’t have Warner, Lee, Murin, Wilson, Costello and Lugo on less than 3.5 scholarships, then we have coaches who don’t know how to game the system. Warner, Wilson, Lee, and Murin were all NHS members. They should be here on at least 50% academic. Lugo should have some financial aid since I know he’s not the wealthiest and Costello is in state. I think it should be less than 2 total scholarships.

I was in NHS and had no where near 50% academic scholarship. I got 0% aid from the University. My only academic scholarships were low dollar local ones. I don't think they hand out academic scholarships that easily at Iowa. Maybe if you're a minority.
Same for me! But I’m an Iowan and I was bound to go to Iowa since birth. Somehow the U of I knew that. Should have went elsewhere .

Now my Illinois friends told me the university gives very small scholarships to exceptional out of state students to help with the costs. I’m sure that factors in a little bit. Making the deans list(3.5 gpa in college) helps too, but I never qualified for that.

That leaves scholarships for; spencer, murin, turk. Lugo, kemmerer, alex, young, warner, stoll, plus whatever cash, happel, gunther, miles, and costello may have gotten...left off brandon, some others, plus any held for incoming recruits. Let’s just say, hypothetically, that the coaches gave the last remaining money to Teske and or Hidlay and then a top 33 pounder flipped. Would everyone be upset that we could not offer him?

Brooks’s Dad said we haven’t even contacted him. So your logic is that we just offered our top recruits less because we didn’t project them that high? Then we need to have better guys be our top recruits.

We offered them less because that's all we could offer them. We do not have the money to go all in on either.

Are you saying I am paranoid and we really did contact Brooks despite his father saying we didn’t, or do you not know what “wearing a tinfoil hat” means?

You said "we are not even contacting kids" & yes I implied that you have paranoia if you believe that.

Would wrestling ****ing start already?!?!?!

One dad on one recruite! Not that much money available and was ear marked for 33. Strange things happened there...we get a commitment and then even after he has already flipped he doesn't make it known. We lose renteria....and rby is prohibited from visiting any other schools or cael will revoke an offer before roman even agrees to accept it. Hurt us where we needed someone the most. Coincidence??

Yeah well, that is a gamble we need to start taking imo. It's working out elsewhere and the whole need for room depth is an old school myth. Rutherford didn't get better wresting the 149 backup, he gets better wrestling Nolf, Joseph etc...
Agree. A back-up ranked outside the top 10 = 0 NCAA points even if called into action. It doesn't mitigate any risk. By the same token, splitting scholarships between 2-3 guys all ranked outside the top 10 (e.g. Turk, Happel, Murin) is the same, point-wise, as giving a full ride to Perez Perez. Pick the horse that you think can win and put all the money on him. Sometimes it doesn't work out (Altons, Gulibon), but you don't need every guy to win, just 4-5 out of 10.

Brooks is planning on enrolling in 2019, right? So he would slot in a weight of need then. Planning in advance.

Okay, so who's the early favorite then? I'm guessing he ends up at UM or PSU with Brady.

Those kids all grow up wanting to be Hawkeyes. If ya'll don't get Kennedy, I'd start to get worried.
I don't think he'd be directly-connected to following Brady out to Happy Valley. He seems like his own man, in the little I've ever chatted with him. The KM dudes are brainwashed into loving basic head/hands defense and high crotches, not scrambling, superducks, and big throws. And it obviously works extremely well for them, but it's right out of Iowa's playbook.

haha, ok, so you're telling me to stop listening to people from Kasson? Im only sharing what I hear, doesnt mean its going to happen.

I can appreciate you sharing what you've heard, and in some cases it could be useful, but you just reinforced my thought that your town source knows nothing. Everything you've stated couldn't be more false. Maybe they are just trying to be "in the know" because they are from KM, but there's nothing to see here. Not trying to be rude or condescending, just debunking your source regardless of where they live.

There are no "leans". It will be a recruiting battle. Hopefully the Hawks remember how to get to KM;)

It is all about the $$$ (9.9 schollies for whole program). Until Iowa can match the $$$ of P$U and O$U, the hawks will be looking up at them. The post-grad $$$ P$U promises to gives to the guys is a huge advantage. It is an arms race that Iowa can't match right now.

Exactly! Not a coincidence the two teams with the most $$$ floating around the clubs are getting the biggest share of high end recruits.

1. Other teams are winning = they are cheating
2. Recruits go elsewhere = we don't have the money but "x" school does OR the recruit isn't that good anyways, we didn't want him
3. We do things the right way

What other ones am I missing?..

Steroids
Our facility is old
Refs don't call stalling the way they should
Unicorns

Sometimes a decision by the 4th placer finisher at Super 32s to wrestle with his brother in college is just a decision by a kid to wrestle with his brother in college. I'm ready for the season to start.

I don't like the excuses either.

But I have to say I'm impressed that most people on the board have wished both Hidlay and Teske good luck and aren't bashing them. (Comments about their S32 performances are not mean-spirited for the most part).

As good as that kid is, they should be outside the window of his class at school ala Lloyd...
