Looks like 184 may still be wide open this year.

In the Iowa room…

Abe looked good up until the finals, and the kid “Shute” looked better.
Hope they talked to the kid (the coaches).

For such a ginormous head, you'd think you'd have a bigger brain.

First meet Abe's wrestled in a long time, no reason for a meltdown quite yet.

He is going to Missouri and I don't see him holding under 197 given how big he is now. We already signed a new 197.

Whiting is an Askren trained kid from Wisconsin I think. He has been a Missouri lock for a long time.

It's not surprising at all that a HS Senior won this tournament. It's surprising a HS Senior won it with Iowa in attendance. Without Iowa there, several HS Seniors could have won this tournament at any weight. I'm not knocking the collegiate talent, it's just that HS wrestlers are THAT good these days.

If his flames aren't fully lit in November when the spot hasn't even been settled yet, then I don't think this is going to do much.
The cesspool reactions to any bad loss taken by an Iowa wrestler range anywhere from the critically reasonable "coaches critique" type to the "I have his back" defending types of which I admittingly am one myself. But I think you're letting your disappointment get the better of you here....might as well also throw in "Brands can not inspire/challenge/motivate someone who is not already fully motivated....by November". Abe will be fine. I still fully believe he will AA this year.

I'm with you on this. Get your guys back and as others are doing, just accuse the H.S. kid (who beat him) of juicing.

That's the mark of a great fanbase!

Askren’s Club is elite. We’d
(Our coaches) do well to try and make amends with him

Meh. According to Askren he doesn’t tell a kid where to go, but weirdly his best kids go to Mizzou. Not worth the investment. We have had the best team for 3 years now without anyone from his club and the recruiting hasn’t slowed down. I’ll let the coaches do their thing.

Eh after watching the match on youtube I don't love the loss for Assad but to me it's not exactly the sky is falling situation. The high school kid is really strong and has probably wrestled 50 live matches in the past year compared to Assads zero. Assad looked flat not super aggressive. I think by the first of the year year we see a much different Abe on the mat.
