I know, sorry about an ISU thread. It seems like destiny that Fred Hoiberg is going to return to ISU though. Thoughts?
Has the OP got some info? Or is this just entirely speculation?
Probably best to give up coaching then. Way to young for 2 heart surgeries.I did not realize that Fred has had 2 open heart surgeries and was not well when he got covid recently.

No info whatsoever. But, with Prohm and Hoiberg both struggling mightily at their current gigs, it wouldn't be surprising if they're both fired soon.

Lol. Hoiberg is in year two.

Hoiberg isn't going to get fired this season. Covid will give him another year.. Even Nebbie isn't that stupid. No info whatsoever. But, with Prohm and Hoiberg both struggling mightily at their current gigs, it wouldn't be surprising if they're both fired soon.
Not sure they are at a resource disadvantage. Creighton plays in a larger and much newer arena than Iowa plays in.Is Creighton Nebby’s biggest obstacle toward putting together a competitive program? Creighton is at a significant resource disadvantage compared to UNL, but completely outclasses the Huskers in hoops prowess.

I hate defending Hoiberg, but his next class has a 5 star and a 4 star guy coming in, not to mention any transfers he'll likely land. He has time. He’s 2-22 in the Big Ten. 11-33 overall. Todd Lickliter won significantly more games than that and he lasted three years at Iowa.
Fred caught lightning in a bottle at Iowa State with the transfers and created the blueprint. Now a lot of schools do it. Iowa State got some very good transfers under Fred
I am fully aware of that but that doesn't stop then from slowly becoming Gonzaga of the midwest.LOL, one of these athletic depts brings in over $130M in revenue a year and the other brings in around $15M, guess which is which.

I'm skeptical about how good of a coach he really is. While I feel he is vastly superior to Prohm, Hoiberg was able to get in very early onto the transfer bandwagon and was able to get talent to ISU that otherwise would not have ended up there. Now everyone has tapped into the transfer market and those guys end up at blue bloods not ISU. He has gotten a couple highly ranked guys coming in next year so we will see if he can turn it around.
I would never take Fred Hoiberg lightly. Nebraska will be a tough out in the near future I believe. You forget he had them as one of the top offensive teams in the country year after year once they got there as well. On top of that he clearly was an extremely good salesmen, which are the two major facets of being a great coach, selling them on your program and knowing how to use them once you get them there. He turned them from trash (4 straight losing years) to a top 20 program overnight and kept them there. To not be sold on what he did there is laughable.
Why do you think Fran has never done this in his career and Fred is immediately doing it at a trash program that is easily one of the worst Power 5 jobs?
The fact he signed the 3rd rated class in the B1G at Nebraska makes your above theory completely ridiculous. He just signed a 5 star from 2000 miles away, doing that is orders of magnitudes harder than signing good transfers. Lick never had a class with a 5* and 4* that's rated 3rd in bten coming to campus, and these 2 years are about the toughest 2 years a new bten coach could have with historic league depth. Nebby knows no one better is coming so I'm willing to bet they give him ample time. Lame wondering out loud thread title but isu fans have said they don't think he'd go back to Ames. We shall seeHe’s 2-22 in the Big Ten. 11-33 overall. Todd Lickliter won significantly more games than that and he lasted three years at Iowa.
You could be right but finishing 8-9th most years and being a regular bubble team would probably make him pretty popular at that schoolLook, they’re 0-5 this year in the league. He will be lucky to win 2 league games. So then he’s on to year 3, probably with another complete roster rebuild like he’s done the previous 2 years. 5 star players in most cases are elite, 1 year guys. If, and big if, Fred can build a roster that has a little bit of a foundation he MIGHT be able to win in 2-3 years. The college game seems to be turning a bit. Older, more experienced teams like Iowa, Drake, and others are doing well while the Kentucky’s, Dukes, etc are struggling. I’m in the camp that Fred will never see the upper half of the league at Nebraska. Want to take me up on that Chidoc?
Well sure if he could get there. He’s dead last. 2 years running. COVID or no COVID. So he’s got a 4 star and a 5 star coming in. My point being if you turn your entire roster over every year it’s almost impossible to move ahead unless he gets 5 players that are all 4-5 stars. All I’m saying is let’s see him build a roster 3-4 years down the road. Again, Fran turned around the worst power 5 team and got us to 25 wins in 3 years. You could be right but finishing 8-9th most years and being a regular bubble team would probably make him pretty popular at that school

That five star is coming to play with his brother, who came to Nebraska last year, via...................................transfer. I'm guessing by the end of a mediocre season next year, they are both gone to the NBA.The fact he signed the 3rd rated class in the B1G at Nebraska makes your above theory completely ridiculous.
