Hoiberg gone!

Thibs is a great defensive coach and maybe one of the better coaches in the league overall, but he didn't realize players are also investments for the franchise. When the front office's repeated reminders to Thibs to not destroy the franchise's investments continued to be ignored, they had to handcuff him with rules and stipulations. I feel for him in the situation but also see the front office point of view. He played Noah a ton of meaningless minutes late in the season a couple years ago. Noah got knee surgery a couple weeks after the season.
Fred is going to be very well received by players. They already have some great defenders in Noah and Butler which will erase a bit of Fred's deficiencies as a coach. Can he keep the "toughness" that has become their identity?
He will make the offense much better. He will be a great fit there, although they are not the young team they once were and he will probably be part of a rebuilding project sooner rather than later. Gasol, Rose is always fragile.

Plus whenever Fred needs a boost he can grab some Free Agent drug addict to come in and turn things around.

Very well-reasoned post there. We need more of this on these boards and less of the "Farmer vs 100" posts.
Story in the Ames paper this morning says Fred told the five-star we were recruiting that he (Fred) couldn't guarantee he'd be coaching him this year. Recruit ended up going to Kansas. He might well have one to KU, anyway; not saying Fred's situation cost us the services of the recruit. But this was 'way back in early April.

Can you imagine a Calipari or Pitino telling a recruit a truth like that?
Guess that is why FH is respected.

I haven't heard that the Timberwolves coaching job is vacant, but I'm sure they will want Fred at some point. At the bottom of the article at the link below says the Timberwolves coaching job is vacant. I know Flip Saunders was just holding the seat warm until the right time and it wouldn't surprise me if Fred goes there rather than to the Bulls.

Many of the Fanatic Loyal Sons of transfer Univ have already turned on the man. "He just used us. He told us he loved us. It's cost us several valuable transfers. Now he's reinforced the idea that ISU is just a stepping stone. I've lost all respect for the man. I hope he fails miserably in Chicago. etc etc." It's rather entertaining, but in keeping with CyFan tradition, way too voluminous.

I think he stays in Ames. He will be a hero if he stays now. Isu would let him bring in anybody , well he pretty much does now anyway. Big pay raise

Kind of like when Hayden fry said no to southern cal.

It would be more like if Hayden said no to the Dallas Cowboys. Which never happened.

Agree....he isn't going anywhere.

Agree....he isn't going anywhere.

Idk. The Ames paper broke the story about him telling a recruit he might not be around next year. Methinks, he's gone. If we're going the health route, he likely won't coach much longer than 10-15 years so if his dream job is to land an NBA gig, his name will not be hotter than it is right now.

I'm not sure this makes any sense. ISU has made the NCAA tournament for the past 4 years, and has a top 10 team coming back next year. Even assuming they underachieve next year, it is safe to say that they will have made 5 NCAA tourneys in a row. I'd say that's significantly better than "normal." While they are crappy at just about every sport, they are a BBall powerhouse, at least compared to all Big 12 schools not named Kansas.

isu always returns to normalcy. When they think they are turning the corner and being decent the coach leaves or is fired. It doesn't matter if it is Football, MBB or Wrestling the outcome is the same.

Since the early 1970's it has been rinse and repeat for isu. No evidence exists that isu's MBB program today is any different.

Of course Farmer and other clown fans will tell us what we must ignore and exactly how it really is. That is what is so entertaining.

Of course it makes no sense. Look who wrote it. Cyclones have been the second-best MBB team in the league since the Big XII was formed. Have had some down years, but the only coach in the last 35 years who didn't win at least one NCAA game was McDermott, and four of the coaches have at least one Sweet Sixteen appearance. They have two regular season league titles and four tournament titles. They've won more games at Kansas than the rest of the Big XII teams combined (not counting Kansas, of course).

Powerhouse? No. But better than average, by quite a ways.

Agree. If health isn't an issue then he gone. If not to Bulls than TWolves. He can always come back and getting a head coaching gig in college. A lot of coaches like the pros because you don't have to recruit 365 days a year. Maybe if you coach at Duke, UNC, Ky you can let your boosters do your "recruiting", but at ISU you have to work hard to get kids to come to Ames. He loves Chi town. They have talent. He likes GarPax. I'll go along with Hawk Harrelson, "he gone".

I hate to admit it but Hoiberg has done an excellent job at ISU.

The assumption is that if he leaves, his replacement will not match his success. That may not be true.

I would have to agree. And I would think Pollard would look internally for a replacement to keep momentum. The staff and AD have obviously bought in to the system/recruiting style and now that a reputation has been built, they would be well-served to stick with it. Make TJ head coach and find more x and o guys to fill the staff. Keep taking your pick of transfers and focus on one or two highly rated hs kids a year.

Bring in new blood and kids and coaches start to wonder if things are going to change. Maybe you don't get you pick of the transfer litter or that hs prospect decides he'll stick with a blue blood rather than test the waters with a new coach/style/system.

The question I have about that is whether most coaches would be able to put together a cohesive, effective team with a variety of second-chance guys. I think we saw a fail in that department last year with Dejean-Jones. I don't know who the coach is going to be, but ISU has sent out offers to a half a dozen high school kids, at least.

There's never been any question in the minds of most ISU fans that Fred wants to coach in the NBA. He's said so, for one thing, which is a pretty good clue. His contract has a $2 million buyout if he goes to another college job, but only $500K if he goes to the NBA, which is chump change.
I don't recall ever hearing Hoiberg say this. I have heard it via Pollard.

We can all agree that Fred has wanted to be an "NBA guy" for quite a while... any correlation to the photos that are starting to surface?

Just can't imagine bolting from a top 10 team.

Could you please interpret this image for us? Not seeing much here.

I got this Hooper. Hoiberg is shaking some guys hand, and in the back on the Grassy Knoll you can see a shadowy figure with what looks like a rifle. This is as clear an image as you'll find, sorry. But keep looking and other things will pop out.

A lady in a babushka that no one has found since the incident.
Waldo of "Where's Waldo?" fame, looking rather aged and impoverished.
World Wide Wes, several times. He's everywhere if basketball is involved.
Clues to a buried treasure outside of Phoenix, AZ.
A saucer shaped object hovering over the court.
Big Foot.

Agree with you guys 100% on the photo quality being a little suspect; however this is coming from the same website (pretty reliable) that leaked photos of Coach Paul Rhoads at Oktoberfest following the Baylor loss.

Anyone out there have the ability to enhance?

Right now, I think we can easily rule out this being Fred’s son; but what are they exchanging and why didn’t the security personnel step in?

I want answers!

If anyone can come up with audio I bet there would be some very telling EVT's in there....barely above a whisper.. "want to coach bulls"
