That seems high.

From the CDC

The prevalence of obesity increased from 30.5% in 1999-2002 to 41.9% in 2017–March 2020. During the same time, the prevalence of severe obesity increased from 4.7% to 9.2%.

I guessed the numbers jumped in the last 4 years

Honestly I thought you chart looked low

50% still seems high when even West Virginia tops out at 41%.

I would support legislation that ties fatness and fitness with the amount of your health insurance premium.
It is a HUGE penalty for the healthy.

That said, compare the rates to educational attainment beyond HS. Ironically Iowa is high on HS diplomas and low on college degrees.

Less college degrees, the more obesity.
