Iowa was out scored 92 to 0 against the 3 best offenses they played. Critics say this is the true measure of the defense. Closer examination shows otherwise- Iowa's defense was, in fact very good in these games as well. Consider the following: 1) Absent offensive errors leading directly to Michigan scores, Iowa would likely have lost to the national champions by a 9-0 score (check it out). Even more convincing, in those game tallying 92-0 on the scoreboard, Iowa's defense allowed the following average yards per offensive play by the opponent- Penn St, playing at home, 4.1 yds; Michigan, playing on a neutral field, 3.3 yds and Tennessee playing on a neutral field 5.2 yards. These games played against the 3 TOP OFFENSES Iowa played, net a combined yield of 4.2 yards for play average. Importantly, 4.2 yards per play is right in line with the gain allowed by both Ohio State and Michigan in ALL of their games for the full season. Yet, both OSU and Michigan played a number of soft offenses during their seasons. Conclusion, even in the toughest of games, Iowa's defense was outstanding! Trollers pick another subject!

The offense is playing school.

I ask myself two questions at opposite ends of the spectrum.

1. How much better would have Iowa's defense been if there had been a good offense complimenting it?
2. How much better is Iowa's defense because they got so much stinking playing time because of a bad offense?!

Well I totally agree with you. Michigan had a hard time moving the ball on Iowa, running yards per play were low. We all know the long punt return gave a 5 yd TD drive and the so called pass-fumble by Hill gave Mich a 7 yard td drive.

The algorithm/equation of the psu game was 47 minutes Penn st had the ball, Iowa's offense did nothing, Iowa fumbled twice to set up very short fields. It was incredible that Penn ST didnt score 60+ pts.

Tenn's fast tempo and scheme did give Iowa trouble but Tenn had only 3 legit drives against the defense while again Iowa's offense did nothing to keep the defense off the field.

Hawks lost 92-0 because of our offense not the defense. Period

Point # 1 of yours I just posted about in this thread and it was Iowa's offense that lost those 3 games 92-0.

As far as your 2nd point, a really poor defense doesnt get any better by being on the field for extra snaps.
