how is rutgers not in?

Bubble is crazy tight for first time I can remember in awhile, some good teams aren't going to make it. You got Virginia Tech being listed as out right now as well which I think is nuts. They've won 13 of 15 games, that is a long stretch of really good ball. If they win today they obviously are in.

SMU could steal a bid today, Xaiver is right on the cusp. Dayton can steal/cement a bid today.

I believe Rutgers should be in and would bounce Michigan.

And yet Iowa state is clearly in despite going 7-11 in the big 12 and getting blasted on day one of their tournament. I haven't heard it mentioned in recent years but I assume the emphasis on recent games is a thing of the past? Did that philosophy go away with the RPI?

So the top 4 in the Big Ten should be auto qualifiers each year?
Not technically automatic, but to finish top 4 in this conference should be a big enough body of work for the tourney resume.

I'd bet in the 14 team era a top 4 team has never been left out. Probably even the 12 or 11 team era either.

They have really bad quad 3 and 4 losses pushing their strength into the 70’s.

according to NET they played 300th ranked non-conference schedule and went 6-4 with 2 bad losses.

have no idea if they were minus key players for those games or not but that would the case against

They shouldn't be in, it's March Madness not February Madness.

PU a 2 win or lose, Illinois a 2, Wisconsin a 3, Iowa a 4-win or lose, OSU a 5, MSU a 6 and Indiana 6, RU a 7 and Michigan a play-in game. No ISU, let them go NIT in which they will get embarrassed.

You would lose that bet. Nebraska tied for fourth, just like Rutgers this year, and missed the tourney.

Dispite not liking the hacking style of play and how frustrated I was watching our game against them.

Rutgers passes the "eye test". They should be in!

I would guess if they get in at 78 on Net (and they are 75 on Kenpom if you want a second metric), that would have to be one of the worst computer profiles ever for an at large team. I know that they were missing a guy or two in those bad non-conference losses, so they might get some grace for that.

There will be top 50 teams left out, so nearly 80 is a big stretch. I think they deserve to be in for all of the big wins and how they have played in conference, but the computer profile is the counterpoint.

Wow. Glad I didn't bet then. There were seriously only 4 Big Ten teams in the tourney that year? I remember that being a disaster year for Iowa, but how was it possibly that bad of a season for the Hawks if the Big Ten as a whole blew that hard during that season.
