Should declare martial law and claim the election was stolen.
Why?
First of all, Hunter hasn't been sentenced.

If it becomes necessary Joe can pardon Hunter on his way out the door,... I'd do it.

Yeah. If he were serving a heavy sentence, it would make sense for Joe to commute it to time served. But he doesn't have that option.
When is sentencing?
Now that Trump has won, the pressure to hammer Hunter should recede.

I might be wrong but hasn’t he only been convicted on the firearms charge? At any rate, the only reason he was charged with a crime in the firearms deal is because of his last name. People don’t typically get charged with that as a stand alone crime. Look it up. There are something like 300,000 instances of failed background checks and less than a dozen get charged.
This was a politically driven prosecution. That’s what pardons are for.

Hunter is long long overdue to face some consequences for his behavior.

I've said from the get go that Biden should pardon Hunter. I know I would if it were my children. There's no way in hell I'd allow for one of my children to enter the prison system if I had the power to stop it.

He's being prosecuted because he committed a crime. His father's job may have brought light to it. But he committed a crime.
Biden will pardon Hunter prior to leaving office. He is the President and has the authority to do so and will use that executive privilege. Don’t like it but it is what it is.
You don't have to be sentenced to be pardoned. Nixon wasn't even charged with anything when Ford pardoned him
You know, I agree with this. AND if Biden really wanted to make a move toward uniting the country he would promise to pardon or stop any further investigations into Trump while pardoning Hunter. This would be a huge move Biden could make towards reconciliation and healing. Id be all for both. Hell, Id be for pardoning Hunter no matter as was said. Id do it for my kids while making sure that I put Hunteres ass in treatment right after. If thats appropriate now.

I would support a pardon for Trump if somehow (and I don't know how) we could get hard guarantees about respecting democratic norms in the future, not claiming stolen elections, not pursuing his enemies, and supporting strong relief funds to any area of the country impacted by a natural disaster no matter what political affiliation it is.
Oh and leaving office and not running someone as a puppet so he can effectively stay in office past his limit.
This stuff broke because norms were violated over and over and over again and no one stopped him. His little jokes (which I assume his supporters will tell me they are jokes) about rounding up the enemies from within terrifies a lot of people.
