I am calling it; Iowa beats Penn State on Saturday

Hawkeyes as big home underdog

The Iowa football team has been a home underdog by more than a touchdown only five times since after the 2000 season, and is 2-3 outright in those games. (*-night game)

So, they've beat the spread 4 out of 5 times. I might have to bet on them.

It's getting to the point where I want Iowa to win solely for the reason that PSU fans for the most part think this is going to be a big time blowout. They think they have a team for the ages for 2017. The only dissenters are those still stung by the 00's losses.

I want to see The Message Board Meltdown. It would be EPIC.

I don't see it as a blowout , but i do think that talent matters and 247 team talent composite shows the current iowa team with 4 - 4stars and 1- 5star and Penn State with 33- 4stars and 1-5star. I thought penn state was much faster than iowa last year and i don't see where that has changed much if at all.

Just stopping in to wish you luck. I can't wait for this game! Early battle of B1G unbeatens. Pumped up night game. Can't wait to see the kids wave. I'm going with a PSU win in OT (you know I have to), but here's to an epic, B1G classic!

That speed complaint is so cliche.
We were pronounced slower in every Bowl game under Fry and Ferentz. So how did we beat Florida? Texas? LSU? Georgia Tech? Tennessee?
I'm not guaranteeing a win against PSU, but the whole speed excuse reminds me of the "so and so doesn't see the field cuz he hasn't learned the playbook" BS. People read some lame excuse on message boards and then repeat it ad nauseam.

Last year is still too fresh in the rear view mirror. I think we give the Kitties a better fight but still come up short. Agreed this is a different Iowa team from a year ago but it's virtually the same Penn State team.

34 - 21
The difference in this Penn State team is maturity and depth. Last two years the offensive line was very weak due to having to play underclassmen too early as a result of the sanctions. Finally they have some size, strength, and most importantly numbers. Same with the LBs where injuries cost them the Pitt and Michigan game last year. If Iowa can win the battles at the LOS, they they can keep the game close by controlling the ball. PSU relies on a quick strike offense and perhaps their best secondary ever on defense. In both cases they have tremendous team speed.

Why not be optimistic? What's the fun of pessimism? Might as well not even watch the game if you are watching for Iowa to lose.

And in the event Iowa doesn't pull the upset, oh well. It's a football game.

About the only thing I'm willing to bet is that Iowa doesn't get blown out like last year. For fun, I'll go 31-30 Hawkeyes.

To PSU fans: Best wishes after Saturday. Beat OSU!

I'm with you. I always believe Penn State can win whatever game they are about to play. In all my years of watching, nothing bad has ever happened to me because I believed my team could win and they ended up losing. Weird, right?

My key to the game is McSorley. If he is on, we will be tough to stop. Against pitt, he missed a bunch of wide open receivers and scrambled out of safe pockets right into pressure. I don't think he's quite used to having an Oline than can provide protection like this year's line.

If he's off, will have too many drives sputter out and we'll have to rely on big plays for scores. That is not a recipe for success in a night game at Kinnick.

Only way they win is if the defense plays way better than it has, they stop turning the ball over and eliminate all the penalties.

Seems that you should be used to that stigma by now. It won't be going away anytime soon.
