I am still surprised so many hawks went portal before finding out who the new coach would be.

It’s only a PG and SG game if somebody can beat the defense off the dribble. Iowa hasn’t had that guy in over a decade (Fran couldn’t land one to save his life). We need speed out there offensively and defensively.
Dix created his own shot regularly.

Considering how many players are stuck in the portal without a place to go every year, I'd say that giving up your scholarship because maybe there's a better situation somewhere else can also be construed as "dumb."
I can see both Bio and your side of the equations.
Going into the portal to see what is available as to not doing it and later when the new coach says take a hike
you do not fit in my plan for the future is not a place a player wants to be with no options if the portal is closed at the time.

Freeman- no surprise, he’s a dbag who quit on his team, or at the very least getting poor advice from dad.
Harding- buddies with Freeman, probably didn’t have the best fan experience , apparently can get paid elsewhere.
Dix- Looking for a bag of cash and can get it.
Sandford- SOP open to coming back but talented enough to explore options
Koch- See above
Dembele- can play a larger role at mid-major
Mulvey- See above

No major surprises to me
I would like to have Koch back and maybe Dix. IMHO, Sandfort is too much of the prototypical Fran player, a tweener that doesn't do any one thing really well and a non-defender. I am looking forward to a rebuilt roster with some DOGS in it. Dogs don't like playing with jags so I think it's going to be very fun to watch!

You go get Dix, he’s Power 5 legit, and he defends out front pretty well with his feet also. Like Pamela always did, never let a good dix leave without trying. The rest, good riddance for many factors including character.

I hope they all struggle at their new schools. We'll truly miss Josh Dix and that's about it.

I'm super excited about Ben Mc and the players he'll eventually get on his roster for us at IOWA. Let's go!

Of course, they might be welcomed back to the hawks, not sure if that would happen.

But I thought the bigger guys would have a place on next year's team. Since college bball is more a pt guard and shooting guard oriented game I figure a new coach might be more picky about the guards on their team but would welcome any big guys willing to work and play hard
Young adults making knee jerk decisions is not a surprise to me. Especially when they have the opportunity to make money while having school paid for. I am sure Ben will reach out to those that entered the portal, the incoming recruits that Fran offered, and maybe bring some with him from Drake.

Very few of those players not finding a team are Power 5 players. There’s a market for everyone of our guys.

Freeman I think would be gone even if Fran stayed. Proven like Dix and pryce I get why see what open market says about them. Gives leverage on their worth even if they come back. Same even for Koch based off potential.

The portal is open until Apr 23rd. I'm sure everyone still on the roster will know where they stand by the end of this week. I guess there's something to be said about "calling your own shots," and I suppose entering the portal several days later than others might result in some missed opportunities, but again, I think the numbers of guys who enter the portal and are never heard from again is a pretty good indication that it's a bad decision for lots and lots of athletes.

Risking a scholly at a P-5 program with a strong chance that you're going to end up at a mid-major is a decision that only the individual player can make. I would argue that there are very few additional opportunities that were obtained by any of the players who entered the portal last week compared to what would be available to them had they waited until later this week to enter, and one huge opportunity was lost (staying at Iowa on scholarship).

So Mulvy was smart as opposed to most fans saying he was a wasted scholarship.

You’ve got 2 totally different systems colliding. Looking in the early portal both Freeman and Dix are top 10 guys so they can name their ticket. Also sounds like Harding is way more coveted than most on here thought. A new coach might want to start all over under his culture.

Schizophrenic Iowa fans. Lauding new recruits, then telling them to not let the door hit them on their way out. Get a f’ing life, folks.

That said, it seems as though BM brings in a solid team concept that, I believe, doesn’t require top shelf recruits. Just heady and edgy players. Then, you prob only need one transcendent talent to lift the team to greater heights. Get a couple of those players and you’ve got a stew.

Personally, I hope all “portals” get what they’re looking for, including success. This may be their only opp to earn this kind of dough. Also hope the transfer madness ends.

It's more like they this. If they do wanna stay, here's what it's going to cost you Iowa.
He’s a Power 5 player. I know we bag on all of these guys but the guy can score. Is he elite? No. Tony Perkins supposedly got 500K. Pryce can do some nice things. He’ll get some money from someone.

And if Sandfort can get paid elsewhere, then he should go for it.
Ben McC is THE decider now. That should include how the payroll gets spent. Moneyball time is here. The coach has to decide what kind of roster he can construct based on the funds at his disposal and the players available. I have confidence that Ben McC can play the moneyball game. He's shown he can take the individual parts available to him and construct teams that can win games.

I'd take Dix of course. Koch probably as well. Alot depends on what they want. BM is an excellent coach!
