Coaches are not normally fired with 2 games left. Yes, it does happen on occasion but there is really no reason for Beth to do it now.
What's the o/u on actual butts in seats attendance next season if Fran returns? 4500/game?
Whatever it is, it won't be good.
it will be a nightmare for the team promoting and selling it that's for sure.
Sucking when it matters, nepotism, etc. Fan base is done with him. There’s no coming back for Fran. It’s blatantly obvious.

Fran has lost all passion this year. All of his press conferences and interviews for the last month have been monotone, bland, zero passion, and clearly just someone going through the motions. Intend is a absolute cop out. His body language has been terrible, slouched over, hands in pockets on the sidelines, etc. And Fran doesn't strike me as the type of guy you could tell to tone it down.

And this is 100% the problem with the Iowa that Gary Barta created..... a mediocre coach who in 15 years has not taken Iowa to a single Sweet Sixteen can just say he's not ready to leave and he has the contract to ensure he can stay.

That stat - which was fun to watch happen - has extremely little bearing at all on the game on Thursday night.

I remember being at the B&GB before Recker and Evans senior year when they were preseason top 10 (or close) and it was pretty much standing room only.
Of course, that was when the excitement of the Alford era was at its peak. Didn't go too well after that, but that's another discussion.

We are going to find out very soon how important the men’s basketball team is to the University of Iowa.
UVA coach walked away because he wasn't in to coaching in NIL era. Fran certainly comes from the old era.
If your heart is not in coaching anymore and you are going through the motions---you might hang it up because you know you are not doing your best. Or if you put your two boys on scholarship and played them over better alternatives and hurt recruiting because you were a Nepo grifter, than you might feel a sense of guilt.
Whether Fran is a Nepo grifter or a great coach/family man is in the eye of the beholder. He is public figure, Non viiolent public opinions are all fair game. His current record suggests he sucks.
Yeah, except there seems to be no indication that Fran is planning on hanging it up. Resignation means no buyout. If Fran wants his buyout, then he isn't resigning. Guess we will find out soon enough, though.
Loss of donor and fan support for Iowa men’s basketball. No NIL money to pay players now that it’s legal. No interest in watching men’s basketball, either in person or on TV. Goodwill? Accepting the occasional bad game or poor play, realizing they’ll have a chance to do better next game.
That’s all gone under Fran. There’s no chance for recovery under this coach and staff. No spark. Iowa men’s basketball has achieved a level of ennui I never thought I’d see.
Time to move on.

He played His bricklayer Son over 2 NBA Players even after it was clear both were far superior Players, He is the definition of a Nepo grifter.
If Beth does not terminate Him and give the payout Carver will be a ghost town until the change is made, Either way Iowa BB is a revenue albatross until a new Coach comes in that gets the Fanbase back . Better to cut losses now and start repairing the damage so revenues can get back in line .
Totally agree. If she was iffy before the season, the lack of attendance more than likely put the nail in the coffin.
ANY new coach will spark interest and butts in seats. The biggest question will be whether they can turn it around and go higher.
