"I have no intention of moving on."--Fran, this afternoon

Of course he isn't retiring, that was a fan-created masturbation fantasy. Its kind of ridiculous how many posters once thought he is going to walk away from millions.

Beth will fire him.
I’m still not convinced Beth will fire him. I am of the belief Fran will be given “one more year” in the hope next year will somehow be different. But…obviously I don’t really know.

I guess it depends on the value the University places on the men’s basketball program. Maybe ticket sales and success on the court are not important to them. We’ll find out soon enough.

If you're correct and Beth knows she has to fire him, what is she waiting for? Respect for him? She's firing him, the respect thing goes out the window. A true son at Indiana was told he would not be back weeks ago.

Totally agree. If she was iffy before the season, the lack of attendance more than likely put the nail in the coffin.

ANY new coach will spark interest and butts in seats. The biggest question will be whether they can turn it around and go higher.
It isn't only ticket price loss it is concessions, merch , Parking and the money spent inside Iowa City and stops outside the City like gas and restaurants before and after Games that is lost when literally thousands who used to show up to every Game have walked away from the program, I have to believe if Iowa City and surrounding Towns are ran by even sub moron level IQ Mayors and City Councils they are in Beth's ear about huge financial losses from the decline in game attendance. It affects the entire town and area .

I Dont Morgan Freeman GIF

He still needs to go.

This is a standard negotiation ploy by Fran to maximize his payout; nothing more. Lick did the same thing when Barta tried to float the idea that Lick would resign due to bad health; which Lick publicly dismissed.

I’d be surprised if Fran isn’t let go on 4/1 or before effective 4/1 to minimize the required payout to Fran. It shouldn’t be made public before season end - unnecessary and classless.

Per poster on TOS (so take it FWIW), the rumor around Iowa City & the program is Beth has the money together for Fran and DeVries buyouts and it’s a done deal. Evidently, the athletic administration and big donors realize something must be done about the MBB program for reasons discussed many times.

Fran has lost all passion this year. All of his press conferences and interviews for the last month have been monotone, bland, zero passion, and clearly just someone going through the motions. Intend is a absolute cop out. His body language has been terrible, slouched over, hands in pockets on the sidelines, etc. And Fran doesn't strike me as the type of guy you could tell to tone it down.

If Beth cares at all about the future of men's basketball at Iowa, she'll make the move.
She will

We likely won't win Thursday.

I realize that you hate Fran but in your hate filled posts you could at least be accurate. You were wrong when you wrote that Izzo would "lose the 1 or 2 'free' wins he'll get off FM next season."

There have been no recent "free wins." Iowa has beaten Michigan State 5 out of the last 6 times.
The only thing about Fran McCaffery I am concerned about is that I don't want him as the coach of Iowa anymore.

But, of course, that's translates to some as I "hate Fran".

I've never even frikking met the man, let alone know him personally, but you're right. I deeply & utterly loathe him.

Fran's teams fold in the biggest games, he's unlikable on the recruiting trail, and he doesn't demand toughness on the defensive end. There is zero chance he's back next year.

Cannot wait to never seem him in black and gold again.
Just because he has those faults in some people's eyes doesn't mean he won't be back.

I have read that after April the payment for his buyout goes down. Not sure if true.

College sports is a business. Beth’s decision will have nothing to do with Ws & Ls, body of work, loyalty, etc. It’ll have everything to do with men’s basketball being the only sport other than football that historically pays for itself and no longer does. Couple that with the loss of the brand, needing to fund raise for Carver, needing an influx of NIL donations, etc and Beth will let him go. She’ll pay the full buyout (as she should) and it ain’t happening before the end of the season. He’s not completely toxic like BF was, so no reason to do it sooner. But I guarantee you she’s working with agents behind the scenes to get things set up for a quick transition. I just can’t picture a scenario where she doesn’t cut bait.

I am sure this is just public posturing. He wants the money that is owed to him and will probably get most of it if not all of it. I would think they would be able to come up with a number that lets him walk and not feel like either side got robbed.
Much as I don't like him, he should get every penny of the buyout. A good portion of the NIL/support/fan angst is, at most, only partially on him.

At this point it's the optics. There really is no good reason to keep him.
