I think 2016 will be KF's last

Unbelievable commentary one day after. Who knows what a team is going to do after a one month stoppage? same disaster for Michigan State. I agree with Ozzie's note above. Where were these anti-Ferentz experts between Sep and the end of Nov? Ferentz has "no clue" and "if he chooses to milk it another 5-6 years" ... As I said, unbelievable. I do not know how one who has "no clue" or is milking it could get a team to perform as it did through the season. Can one of our experts explain it to those of us like Ozzie and I can understand?

Be careful what you wish for.
I've always hated this statement. High achievers always take risks; if you prefer safe then you will never excel.

Btw, my wish is not to be embarrassed in a Rose Bowl. Pretty sure we can't do any worse than what happened yesterday, so ROLL THE DICE!*

*NOT advocating that Kirk be fired or leave at this time....but definitely no long term extension. If 2017 recruiting gets off to a slow start, then go ahead and give him a 1-year extension right before the start of the season. If next year plays out like we expect it to (10+ wins) then throw him another 1-2 years. At this point nothing longer unless he goes out and wins a NC.

He was 44 I believe when he took the job. Of course he has aged quite a bit over the years. I don't always agree with his decisions or philosophies but I'd say most of us will be doing well too look so good in our 60's.

We're already recruiting kids that will not graduate from college until 2022 or 2023. I realize that most of these kids won't make their commitments for another two years, but his age and his contract status it is already likely having an impact on these kids to some degree. I believe Ferentz's current contract goes through 2020. I'd be in favor of giving him a 2-year extension now. Given how next year should play out, I think that's a low risk move.

For the record and for full disclosure, I was in the camp that wanted Ferentz fired after last year's bowl game.

Remind me when we were a power house winning the Big Ten year after year.
I will....right after you show me anywhere where I said that.

What is it w/ some of you posters? So wanting better than what we've seen the past few years and not wanting to get humiliated on national TV in a bowl game that actually matters = "We should be a powerhouse that wins the B1G year after year"??

Kirk and Hayden have been great for Iowa. A major mistake when Hayden aged is that Iowa had no succession plan. As a result, recruiting suffered and the coaching staff deteriorated. Very lucky that Kirk was able to rebuild quickly with group of recruits no one else wanted or it could have been back to the 20 year losing seasons. Barta and Kirk need to not let there be a lack of succession plan again.

Did KF learn a lot from Hayden about how to prepare for a Rose Bowl? Will he learn a lot from Hayden about how to retire?

Or Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden ect.

I don't think KF should be pushed out by any means, but they need to start planning an exit strategy, hes not going to be here that much longer no matter how good or bad the next few years are.

And I hope there's no drop off after CJ leaves but with out him this year wouldn't have been much better than the previous one.

This isn't directed at anyone, personally. I guess what I'm referring to in this case is the reactionary attitudes displayed after one game. Listen, like I've said, there is no bigger Hawkeye than myself, at least in my mind. And, yesterday, was extremely disappointing and disheartening. Constructive criticism I have no problem with, but, there seems to be x number of people who claim to know more than KF, about football and who knows what, else. And, these people seem to think, or know, that someone will do better. It goes without saying that the sarcastic, crude, shots at him are ridiculous and unwarranted.

There isn't anything wrong with wanting more/better. I do, also. I'm talking about the way people are advocating and articulating this want.

I thought that too, but someone posted his contract in another thread and it states it ends January 31, 2020.

Seasons remaining under this contract: 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019

I still say hold off on an extension until after 2016 (or right before the season if 2017 recruiting isn't going well - 2018 can still be turned around starting after the season regardless). Had he performed better in the Rose Bowl than sure I'd say do it now, but we cannot reward him after what happened yesterday. If you extend him two years it's simply condoning unacceptable outcomes, and that blowout was unacceptable. Sure we were 12-2, but 0-2 vs quality opponents with total embarrassment on the national stage...that's how most of America views it.

I'll just throw this out there as a thought that has floated in my head throughout the year. I could actually see him quitting this week. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who is consumed only by football and I could see him not feeling like he has to put up with all the headaches that come with it.

But the biggest reason I could see it is if their is a desire and a serious possibility of Brian taking over. If I'm leaving and the schools bringing in someone totally new, I'm not real concerned with thE cupboard being bare. But if I know that I want to leave things in good shape for my son, I might be inclined to leave a team behind that is stacked.

Once KF retires/leaves as some are suggesting, do you envision Iowa hiring a better - top tier coach with your recruiting base ? I think KF has done a great job at Iowa all things considered

This statement is ridiculous. So Iowa could never get a top tier coach because of our recruiting base?

Lmao

I have this feeling that KF will retire in 5 years so his son can take over and we will continue to be the same ole 7-4 or 8-4 program for the next 20 years.

And give up all that cash. No way. Even after that debacle , KF knows he can live off that for another five years or so. He isn't going anywhere until his kid is assured the gig.

This- wants to hand the reins over to Brian- who I hear is a great coach but not a nice individual

With all due respect, how good would Stanford have been without #5? They probably would have been good, but he made a difference, obviously.

KF recruited CJ, and he was part of this Iowa team. He made a big difference this year, but again, he was a part of this team. I'm sorry, but I don't see the validity/logic of this statement/argument.

The rest of your post I agree with.

FWIW, the women (grads from various schools aged late-20s to mid-30s) in our usual game watch crew have reached consensus over the years that Kirk is a very attractive older man.

I can't believe I just posted that on a football message board.
