In no way it does, and I agree in general with what you're thinking. But Native Americans did war on each other. But it was often to protect what they thought were hunting grounds and territory they saw as vital for their own survival.
Or if the tribe had suffered losses at the hands of other tribes. Women were often taken as slaves and second wives.
At the risk of a bad pun, women were always at the bottom of the totem pole...
