I'm 48 years old.

When you go and crap on your host's doorstep, what makes anyone think we will be invited back to the Rose Bowl again?

We can win a Rose Bowl and it's not as impossible as we make it seem. The issue has always been the approach and mindset.

The very first thing when we go West is you have to acknowledge and understand the gap in talent and speed. The head coach must beat into the heads of our players the importance of playing a perfect game. Our trips have been riddled not only by the talent/speed gap but compounded by far too many mistakes. Tons of mistakes. We have to devise a game plan centered on slow, methodical safe ball control with extremely physical play. Pound the rock. Use heavy sets and unbalanced lines to force them to bring undersized players into the box or sub out speed players where we can get our TE's matched up favorably in the play action game. Within that game plan look to take some well timed shots down field off of play action. Do not panick if you get behind and commit for 60 minutes of brutal, physical football. Play to our strengths not our weaknesses.

These teams want you to fold early. No mistakes! False starts, turnovers, etc. No mistakes!

On defense play super conservative and assume they are going to move the ball at will between the 20's. The goal is no long TDs and try to force FGs. A FG is a win on any series. Do not get caught up in yardage football. It's all about trying to make them take longer drives and time off the clock. Hope for a mistake or two but you have to make the play when the mistake is made. Can't drop the INT or miss the fumble.

The point is we cannot out athlete them. We continually allow them to impose their PAC style instead of ours. That's been the big problem.

The head coach must emphasize we are here to win the game at every event and team gathering. Over and over again. Nothing else on the trip matters but winning the game. He must internally play on the opponent disrespecting us card while publically building them up to the nth degree. Our players must have a chip when they play.

Finally we need some bit of luck. A ball bouncing our way, etc.

I agree, I know quite a few people that dropped the finances to go to the game, and can only feel sorry for them and then some. We that showing of fan support, you would think a better effort would have been given.

Wow, must suck to only enjoy yourself (in Southern California in Dec/Jan nonetheless) when the Hawks win.

You must have been miserable in Kinnick the last few years. Feel bad for you.

Don't count on it.

While of course you always want the best bowl, the Rose has frankly lost its cachet as far as I'm concerned. Losing that close B1G title game and not making the playoffs was a much bigger blow than another butt kicking received in the Rose Bowl.

Ok, the statement was that I felt bad that some people spent good money to see a poor effort, so keep your sorrow to yourself. I'm sure California was enjoyed regardless. The statement was pinpointing the effort by the team.

I'm 49.

I had a great seat for this disaster. Cali is great and it's nice to get away, but this hurt bad. I am not sure I would go to another Big 6 bowl game with the hawks in it. I was and am shell shocked.

Are they really that much better?

BTW our tackles were absolutely terrible in that game. I see Myers was benched for a while at least.

We have a good team coming back on paper and I actually think the apathy will be even worse next year because of this game.

Sadly, I'm not sure they get to the Rose again anytime soon. They are now 0-4 in my lifetime and each performance was brutal. Fan turnout was great but TV ratings were down and the game was over before it started. I'm still in disbelief because I can't believe what I witnessed at the Rose Bowl Stadium.

I'm 57 now, and was only a few months old on the other side of the world when Iowa last won. This coming year, the last time Iowa will have won a Rose Bowl will have been half way between then and the beginning of LAST century, when arguably the football was just being started then. I think about that too much and I feel too old... :(
I am also 57, and was almost 3 months old when Iowa last won the Rose Bowl. I could not afford to go to the 3 Fry Rose Bowls, but went to this one thinking it was the last chance I would have in my lifetime.

I was also hoping to be able to see the Hawks win a Rose Bowl in my lifetime (the 59 game doesn't count)......I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that it will likely never happen.

We had an awesome trip to Pasadena. Would do it all over again in a heartbeat. We're not poor, so maybe that changes things a bit but probably not.

That racehorse got beat twice in 15 including a loss to Northwestern which we beat by 30.
This. This Rose Bowl "effort" by Iowa was an avalanche of a whole bunch of not seen before shit getting tossed on them in a short amount of time, mistakes galore, etc. Did Stanford and their "juggernaut" team get left behind when they played at NW? Did the Varsity take the day off? Was it not sunny or warm in Evanston on Sept. 5th? Maybe it rained, hell I don't know, I know it wasn't -20 in Evanston that day. Stanford scored six, yes I said 6 points that day, a team we absolutely buried in the same venue.

We got our asses kicked because we played horribly in every phase of the game. Something that is becoming real common in Iowa Bowl Games. This Stanford team isn't remotely close to a 30 point better team than Iowa. Iowa isn't 30 points better than Northwestern either, but we were that day we played them.

I could not believe my eyes on Stanford's FIRST play from scrimmage, with the Heisman runner-up coming out of the backfield, unchecked. No chip, no spy, no nothing but open field. I guess the Coaching Staff never heard of him or watched film, and forgot about somebody called David Johnson. Unbelievable. It got worse from there.

Stanford didn't get any better all of a sudden because they throttled us on this day. They aren't now nor ever were some unbeatable juggernaut. They lost to Northwestern early and Oregon late, the same Oregon team that let a team without it's starting QB come back on them to win down 31-0. Stanford is a good team that made big plays early and completely changed the direction of the game, and Iowa then choked under the pressure.

Hell I think we have a hell of a chance to be back there next year..

51 here and I was at the 1986 rose bowl game. Have a European trip and a two week cruise scheduled for 2016 so there is our entertainment budget for the year or I would have dropped the 3-4 k it would have cost to attend this years game.
Doubt we return to the rose bowl under the current coaching staff as the only reason Iowa played in this years game was because of the schedule.
No better than 8-4 next season and while the big ten west is quite weak, I think it's going to take more than what Iowa is capable of to win the west next season.
