I'm starting to rethink Trump's tweet...

Overzealous? Absolutely. But only because I care deeply about racism. I can go overboard with my firmness, but it is 2019. I expect the best out of everyone since the knowledge of all this racism is so easy to obtain. All people have to do is to accept that racism still exists and they can easily learn how we have gone from point A to point B.

You're giving people too much credit. Most of them are completely fine with racism. To expect the best from people, especially after the continued support of Trump, is insane.

Then that is on them, imo. It's a free country. If they want to be racist, they can be racist. But what they can't claim is that they had no idea that all that racism is wrong.

Trump's recent twitter storm is nearly a guarantee that Merica will see a record turnout from all minorities in 2020. And if you are a Republican, that's not a good thing.

We could very well see a GOP bloodbath with further losses in the House and a very real chance for the Dems to retake the Senate.

If there's anyone that claims to be an Independent left in this country... they won't be voting for a Republican.

Trump has fostered a division that may take decades to heal. What a disgusting POS.

Lol

I know. That's what has always given me pause.
So if you are a moron you can't be a racist? Or does that excuse the behavior?

Trump is a racist. He probably doesn't recognize himself as such, but he is definitely a racist. However who is more challenged ethically. Trump the racist, or those who support the racist and make his special brand of hate acceptable.

I have some very good friends that are black . As well as many Mexican friends. Hell we have em all in the family. Even a couple of Muzzys...that are Christians by the way.
Why stop there? Tell us about your liberal friends and socialist friends and communist friends and your friends and their kids in the border detention facilities who all love Trump and tell you all the time how proud they are of him?

I think Trump is a despicable racist, but I guess I'm struggling to see how his recent tweets are more indicative that he's a racist than any number of things he's said and done before. These tweets are pretty reminiscent of the birtherism controversy he started with the first black president.

To speedracers credit, I'm sure he still cheers for the black players, even if they're lazy.

Do posts like there make you feel better? I'm serious in asking, because to many of us when reading this it isn't much better than what you claim to be "so against".

This isn't complicated. He's in full re-election campaign mode now and every time he's engaged in race baiting it's helped him politically.

It's strategic and effective.
Correct. Trump is doing a good job representing his supporters. He has the balls to say what they are ashamed to say.

Really?

Funny how I haven't seen a single Republican or right winger comment about how bad those tweets are. At the very least they are ignorant and uninformed. Yet, you pick out a couple rebuttal posts to comment on ...

Hmmm ... A trillion dollar deficit and a President who can't shut his mouth on Twitter with vile disgusting commentary. That's our country.

No, doesn't make me feel much at all. I've read speedracers posts for a long time, I view him as a true deplorable. He posted that he couldn't care if Trump is racist, I think that's worthy of scorn.

Plus, I got several likes for my pair of posts.

What makes you uncomfortable about the post?

The most recent comments I would say are xenophobic moreso than racist. They were most definitely stupid, but this isn't the first time he has done that and won't be the last either.

Actually a lot of, if not most Rs have acknowledged these tweets are pretty bad. There is the semantical argument over what is racist and what isn’t, which is fine. Those tweets represent a white nationalist sentiment, which is inherently racist. Thank god Trump is out there sticking up for the whites.

I've said they were bad. A bunch of Republican lawmakers, including Joni Ernst, have criticized them.

I just saw that with Joni. Good for her.

Most Iowa politicians tend to be well-mannered with one obvious exception.

I don't like the tweets for a few reasons. First off, it is just unnecessary but this is true for ALL of Trump's tweets. He shouldn't even be on twitter. Secondly, the tone of the latest tweets is odd. It highlights yet again that Trump sometimes doesn't even know what he's talking about given 3 of the 4 were born here. While I can engage in the usual "here's what he meant", that's not something I particularly care to do and part of the reason I'm not going to do it is because I think Trump went way too far with this one.

You can justify it however you wish, but the fact is you made an insensitive "joke" in a thread where the topic focuses on an insensitive tweet.

So you can either double down or admit it was an insensitive joke, but hey, you got some likes from your base. Do you see some of the similarities here with Trump?

You find an “insensitive” joke about a racist more troubling than the actual racism itself. Explain.

I intended it to be more of an insult than a joke, which are supposed to be insensitive, kind of a backhanded compliment. I assumed we're all here because of an interest in collegiate athletics, football and basketball is dominated by blacks. I imagine even if speedracer doesn't care if the president is a racist or if he is one himself, I bet he still cheers for Iowa's black players.

I have had to explain this to people before, I am an anonymous poster on a message board, Trump is the president of the United States, I don't see the similarities.

Does every insensitive comment upset you? Call out every poster who engages in sexual relations with another posters mother? What about the ones who were involved in the Mollie Tibbets investigation? What about posters who seek out stories about black teens performing flash mobs?

Trump made another tweet without thinking. Then... he got to the point he couldn't modify his stance. Then... he had to double down.

He's too arrogant to admit he made a mistake. Or too narcissistic. Or... both.

Honestly, it's embarrassing. But not surprising.

I still think someday, someone puts one between his eyes. Certainly not advocating for that, but I think it happens. He's just made too many enemies in his lifetime.

But he didn’t make a mistake. This stuff is purposeful. He needs race to be a focal point because that’s his route to victory.

Not sure why you think this is laughable, I'm an independent who hasn't voted in a Presidential election since 2000 and I'm about 85% positive I will be voting D in the next election.......no matter the candidate. Trump is a vile, POS human being and it disgusts me that he "represents" myself and our country so much so that I'm willing to go against my principles (voting for the lesser of two evils) to get him out of office. And I know of at least 4 other people (i.e. Independents that didn't vote in the 2016 presidential election) that share that sentiment. I also know about 10 people that voted for him (though in reality 6 of those were people who were anti-Clinton and not pro-Trump) in 2016 that will be voting D, no matter the candidate, in the next election.

And while the 2016 election looks somewhat like a landslide from an electoral college point of view, it really wasn't.

The Election Came Down to 77,744 Votes in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan

But he didn’t make a mistake. This stuff is purposeful. He needs race to be a focal point because that’s his ONLY route to victory.

FIFY

I could care less if he is a racist. He is making good policy and braver than any recent POTUS.

I love this. We have people that equate unprecedented spending and deficits with good policy and racism with bravery, of all things. They assume that others are as racist as they are but lack the courage to be open about it.

Silly hicks.

Then how can you be okay with a POTUS espousing racism?

I don't understand the mentality. Especially since bigotry and hate are antithetical to Christianity.

Help me understand.
