Initial NCAA Seeding Thoughts

grand scheme of last year, I think NCAA finals > Big 10 Finals

Ironically, you posted this shortly after that match occurred...
Touché. That said, if you saw the crap Greg Martin was posting on the Ohio State board, you'd say the same thing if he was saying it about Iowa and Brooks. MyMar is a classy kid - competes and takes on everyone and acts well in victory and defeat, but his dad can be an excuse-making, race-baiting turd

The NCAA finals was one match; where was the other?

Nickal pins Martin in the semis and then goes on to win a big ten title and that doesn't matter.

Martin beats Nickal in the semis and then gets beaten in the finals and that matters??

Good luck trying to explain that away.

So, Nickal in 2016 beats Martin 4-3, 11-5, and then pins in the B1G Semis. At the time, seems like he is pulling away and it's not even close. At the time, B1G was the biggest stage of season and i'm sure it's a goal of every wrestling to be a B1G champ. Jump ahead 2 weeks to NCAA finals and no one is expecting Martin to win. He does, on the biggest stage, when it mattered. NCAA champ replaces the B1G champ in any scheme.

2017, similar scenario. Nickal is nearly untouchable, pins #3 and #4 rated guys at the weight, breezing through duals, including 8-2 win of Martin. Same setup in B1Gs this year and to date, Martin won when it mattered at the time. As Tom Ryan likes to say, "Duals don't matter"

I think posters should rewatch the Nickal/ Martin dual match. The score was 8-2 but I believe Nickal scored 6 points in the final few seconds of the periods. Nickal seemed content to just stand there and score off Martins shots for at least 4 of his points. It was a very competitive match. At least that's how I remember it.

Agreed Martin may be 2-4 against Bo but he's 2-1 in March. And an extreme example would be say a wrestler is .500 on the year but wins every match in March getting a conference and NCAA championship. Nobody would give a shit about what he did during the year because he brought them a national championship

4-2 in the last two years, but the 2 have been when "it mattered"
I agree that Martin's wins mattered most. My point was that Martin doesn't dominate Bo in most matches. Quite the contrary. The losses during the regular season do matter as they affect seeding. In other words, regardless of the great tournament Martin had, his regular season losses will negatively affect his seeding at NCAA

I liked the analogy smalls103 made on Flo when he compared Martin in March to baseball great Reggie Jackson in October.
