INSIDER INFO

DDV wanted to come to Iowa. We couldn't meet his wishes as far as giving him the bank to recruit a championship level team. I don't blame him. If you have goals to win a National Title, you know what you want and need and won't settle for less.
McCollum just earned his 31st Division 1 win in his first 34 tries, won his conference & conference tourney, as well as just won Drake's first Round of 64 game in 54 years. With multiple Division 2 players. Who he's, oh by the way, won Div.2 nattys with.

To bastardize a quote from Field of Dreams, "If you hire him, the (NIL) money will come."

Good for DeVries, but he and McCollum might be very different people with very different ideas.

I don’t believe this to be true. I think DV was our second choice. I hope that.

Kinda hard to come to Iowa when you come to an agreement with Indiana a month or two ago. He can say he wanted to come to Iowa but he was firmly secured by Indiana as their next head coach once Mike Woodson resigned. That was a done deal and DD even admitted as much post presser.

From what he said in his press conference, I'm not so sure about that. I have a feeling he was using Iowa to get even more from Indiana.

That is the rally a cruel and stupid comment to make Dew…but that’s what this board is known for…
What’s your relation to Fran? To Connor? To CC?
Connor tweeting the three clown emojis was a very telling sign once his Father was fired. That’s a douche move with your gf the legend of Iowa women’s bball. You don’t post anything at all in the position he is in.

Don’t know who you are; for all we know you could be behind the Iowa Burners Network, which is total junk.

At this point I’m sincerely questioning any of this is true. My bet is Iowa’s chances of getting BM took a big hit tonight. Lot of other schools with better NIL likely perked up.

I’d be very surprised if he wound up at Iowa.
But I’d be thrilled and actually would contribute.
Like which ones? It is still a school on a lucrative conference. People keep Stu g this….but who are these schools w/deeper pockets searching for a coach

That. AD. Did. Not. Hire. McCollum.
This knowing the AD line is really old, no proof they are even close, and reeks of WV desparation..

And he was only his AD for like three of the fifteen years McCollum was there. Very overblown. He's been picky and Drake being close to home was a huge motivator in him finally making the jump.

I think McCollum to Iowa is pretty close to being done, can't speak to the rest of this. I think leaving Butler to go coach with his dad at an Ivy would be a pretty bad career move for Connor, but not my life. I do hope Fran gets another job though, and that'd be one that makes sense for both sides.

Butler has been on the struggle bus for awhile. It’s not like he would be leaving a blue blood. If he wants to go coach with his dad if he gets the Penn job go for it.

Didn’t someone else on this site a few days ago claim DeVries was a done deal?

If McCollum can get some decent NIL money to work with, Iowa might have a winner. I don’t know. A mid-major hire is bound to work out at some point for Iowa. Hopefully.
This guy can x and o @ both ends of the floor. Better than any MBB coach since Lute imo. Took a new Drake team w/ many DII guys, got 'em to buy into a demanding style they could be competitive in and win 30+. Not always pretty, but it is to a purest who sees a coach find a way to coach to his personnel and stick w/ it and succeed. His front line struggles w/ FTs but can defend and they're very good rebounders. They can handle a press from a more athletic team. Drake's composure and demeanor when things were shaky (esp 2nd half) shows they've been coached up the right way.

Another Bo Ryan? I would say good chance. He was very successful at a school known for it's football prowess (NWMSU) before basketball so that should indicate his ability to co-exist w/ other successful programs which is a plus for the entire AD.

(and I believe I read where he turned down WVU last year, which would mean he was offered that job before DD)

You honestly think Indiana was willing to settle for a guy with zero ncaa tournament wins as their first pick months ago?

They don't need to do that. They can get a DD any time they wanted.

I don't care what DD said, of course hes going to tell the story that makes him look the best. There's no reason to believe that story just like there was no reason to believe Fran when he said he expected to be back the day before he got fired.

Far more likely IU came in relatively late after striking out on other coaches. DD found himself in demand from 2 schools and played them against eachother for the best money.

Exactly. IU went after Drew, Brad Stevens, and 1 or 2 others….then settled for DD.

You lose all credibility when you can’t even get his NCAA tourney record straight. Drake beat Wichita State in the first four so that’s a W in the tourney.

Or the flip side is you believe in yourself and your coaching abilities and trust that you can coach guys up to be successful and then the resources will come.
And Devries would have had a very long leash at Iowa. He has 3-4 years at Indiana to prove he can make deep runs or he will be canned.

As others have stated, my biggest fear is he stays at Drake and builds a mid major power. He doesn’t seem like the type of guy to leave a program after one successful year, but maybe Iowa is his dream job.🤷🏻‍♂️
Good Lord. He’s not staying at Drake.

The inferiority complex of a portion of our fanbase is making ISU fans look like alpha dogs.
