INSIDER INFO

you seem to get worked up about a lot of things. why do you care?
Your reading comprehension and logic is lacking. I’m worked up about people being stupidly indignant about anything the MCaffery family does. What I don’t care about is clown emojis. There is a pretty clear distinction. Try to reflect a moment before you make an illogical argument.

Fare statement. But if you were to put yourself in their place, how would you feel about what the social media was saying about you and your sons? wouldn't you be thin skinned also. Growing up I was taught "if you don't have anything good to say about a person don't say anything". Social media oversteps the boundary line in so big of ways. It's out of hand.
Fran didnt read the clippings. His children did. Fran knew what he signed up for. The kids and spouse were thin skinned. Your dad signed up to be in the fishbowl and to be the head of a BIG program.

It was time for all parties to move on.

The blocking out, the hustle and the defense were amzing to watch....

However I think i fell asleep watching that boring offense .....stand around wait till 5-6 seconds on shot clock and go to work is boring af...

Hopefully if he got some different athletes he changes it again, but Iowa fans have to much Lick in their systems still to watch that
Actually, the offense is brilliant coaching. As I said before, Drake doesn't have a lot of offensive talent, so McCollom is smart enough to coach accordingly. Had Drake shot within 20 seconds, they lose by 20. You prefer that? LOL

McCollom knows what his players can and cannot do, and he emphasizes the can while minimizing the cannot. How many coaches do you think could take a bunch of D-II players and beat that Missouri team? I know of one for sure. And if you think watching Drake is boring, I guess you (1) don't really know much about basketball and (2) loved watching Iowa get beat 116-whatever and 106-94 and give up more points in a half than Drake gave up the entire game vs. Missouri. Personally, I like winning, and I like a coach who coaches to the talent--or lack of talent--that he has.

Drake is 31-3. They're one win from the Sweet Sixteen. If that's not your thing, so be it. I, on the other hand, love it.

Great post. He on the other hand knows nothing about bball.

MN has locked up Medved. UVA has locked up Odom. WVU is going after Utah State coach (or their asst Chester Frazier). Villanova is a shell of its former self.

I feel good about BM.
Agreed. My only concern would be him wanting to stay at Drake for a little while. Listening to him on Dan Patrick today and he's a pretty even-keeled guy. Didn't sound like he's the type that wants to jump around much and believes that loyalty and family are of the utmost importance. I think there's a good chance he stays. Outside of that, I think Iowa is in a good spot based on his stated priorities.

He's got plenty of options coming his way. Hopefully staying/raising his family in Iowa while serving at one of the two highest profile schools in the state is enough to lure him. I feel like the next job will probably be where he ends his career.

If Iowa truly is his dream job, I would have to think he would take it if offered. If he doesn't, he might not have an opportunity to get the job down the road. Iowa could hire someone that does a great job and is there for 10-15 years or more. At that point, I'm not sure he would have the opportunity to get it.

You like football games that end 6 - 3?

Got some info tonight from someone who knows past and current players. A very reliable source in my opinion.
McCollum is a done deal to Iowa.
Good chance Fran might be headed to Penn, taking Connor as an Asst. if he takes job. Obviously, young brother heads along too.
Mulvey already has a school picked out, too.
Not trashing them, but Conner and Fran on the same coaching staff? Who’s gonna hold them back from the officials? Or will they take turns throwing them into the turnbuckles?

If it truly is his dream job and he were offered the position, he would be an absolute fool to turn it down. With that said, do we really know that Iowa is his dream job? Why would Iowa be his dream job?

I don't know if it is or isn't his dream job, but being an Iowa native might have something to do with it. Did he grow up an Iowa fan? I really have no idea.

Idk man I thought the offense was exciting, honestly. The extra passes, the open cutters hitting easy layups. All the while forcing Mizzou to defend for extended periods of time. Chefs kiss
I'm watching the Drake Missouri game right now and I'm impressed with how they play. I was worried that they would be boring, but they are such a well coached team that I find it entertaining to watch. It's impressive that they were able to play such great D against Missouri being so undersized.

Andy Fales mentioned on Murph and Andy the other day that when he sat down with McCollum last summer(?), he mentioned his basketball heroes when he was younger were Dr. Tom and Chris Street. So probably safe to assume he grew up an Iowa fan. I think his mom or wife graduated from UI.

Its not a done deal with BM. If BM doesn't feel the program will have the resources to keep current recruits and get new one's, he won't come. He's a competitor.

Yes, Ben grew up an Iowa fan.

Ben's mother went to the University of Iowa where she received her undergraduate degree, law degree, and master's degree. She began her professional career as an assistant attorney for Johnson County in 1982. This was the time frame Ben was born in IC,

I read on one of the boards (and we all know how trustworthy that is) that Ben's wife also graduated from UI as well but can't find any confirmation of that.

His main credential is being a NIACC graduate!!!

“Probably”? They don’t have it and he’s won 31 games and counting. 7-0 against Q1/2 teams. 4-0 against P4 teams.

Will it help? Yep. Is it necessary for a great coach? Nope.
The 43-year-old McCollum probably would come a little cheaper than Darian DeVries would have. But you also have to wonder if McCollum would be set up to fail due to the lack of resources.

The next head coach will almost certainly have to rebuild the Iowa roster, with five Iowa players currently in the transfer portal, and that’ll take money that might not be available for such a daunting task.

The lack of resources will be a concern no matter who ultimately gets hired to replace Fran McCaffery, who lost multiple recruits due simply to not having enough NIL resources to compete with the big boys.

McCollum being hired will almost immediately raise the NIL in the pot.

You don’t get it and never will.

I don't necessarily believe in dream jobs, but for a guy with ties to Iowa and Iowa City, if he has fond memories then it might be one of
his ideal stops.

I think Long Leash is one thing attractive Iowa has going for it if you are a coach with long-term thinking. The only guy Iowa has fired early as MBB coach in close to 50years is Lickliter. Fran go 15 years.

Anyway---lets hope he really does like Iowa City.
