INSIDER INFO

Little chance at McCollum if the Bu'dogs win tomorrow. Iowa has no roster, no budget and no NIL fund. There would have to be a better option to move up somewhere but even Drake is obviously miles ahead of Iowa at this point. They only lack the facilities. A move to Wells Fargo would give Drake better facilities. There are a lot of money people in DSM on the Blue Bandwagon. That bandwagon might create a good NIL budget, at least as long as the Bulldogs keep winning their conference and getting to the NCAAs. I hope I am wrong, but it seems that Iowa has nothing to offer but being a bottom feeder in a very deep conference.

You don’t get it and never will.
The next head coach will almost certainly have to rebuild the Iowa roster, with five Iowa players currently in the transfer portal, and that’ll take money that might not be available for such a daunting task.

The lack of resources will be a concern no matter who ultimately gets hired to replace Fran McCaffery, who lost multiple recruits due simply to not having enough NIL resources to compete with the big boys.

Drakes not moving to Wells Fargo. Des Moines does not support them very well for their success over the last 7-8 years.

Nonsense.

Nonsense.
According to 83 Hawk when McCollum asks about NIL money then all Beth has to say to McCollum is this:

You fail to understand there are only so many roster spots out there. There are a lot of good players. And there are a lot of players who think they are going to cash in in the transfer portal but are disappointed to find they are not worth as much as they think they are. You don’t need to spend mega millions to field a competitive team capable of getting to the NCAA tournament and winning a couple of games.

A roster full of high-priced players who only care about getting a paycheck and will bolt for more money elsewhere is no guarantee of winning.

Teams that play tough defense, rebound, and are fundamentally sound are going to be competitive. And it doesn’t require millionaire players. Or the “best”.

Don't feed the troll.

Got some info tonight from someone who knows past and current players. A very reliable source in my opinion.
McCollum is a done deal to Iowa.
Good chance Fran might be headed to Penn, taking Connor as an Asst. if he takes job. Obviously, young brother heads along too.
Mulvey already has a school picked out, too.
Name names or this is just another fake news click bait post.

Roots. That's what we have going for us. Not a roster. Not an NIL bank. Roots. Hoping that's enough.

How that Drake roster beat Mizzou is a testament to a guy that can flat out coach. Stirtz is the only Drake starter who would see time on the Mizzou roster if they were combined.

I compared his style to Kirk a few days ago. Watching his defense play, I really think the fans would come back to see a group of guys that play their hearts out every night.
What's his NIL at Drake? I'm guessing a lot less than Iowa's. He's getting it done by out coaching the others with D2 players. He does not require a huge NIL to get the players to play his winning style of ball.

Rico begs to differ. Rico says you can’t win unless you spend millions for players. And McCollum won’t coach anywhere unless he is guaranteed a large NIL payroll.

Several head coaches' names have been mentioned in connection with the job, but one appears to be the favorite among the West Virginia program: Ben McCollum. McCollum is a four-time national champion at the Division II level.

"Ben McCollum appears to be WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker's leading candidate, according to most reports on the program's coaching search," Joseph Smith wrote. "It makes plenty of sense too-McCollum was rumored to be on Baker's shortlist during the coaching search last spring that landed Darian DeVries."

It seems that Baker is poised to go all-in on McCollum once again. On Thursday night, McCollum led his Drake squad to victory over a strong Missouri program. In his first year as a Division I coach, McCollum has already guided Drake to 31 wins this season. West Virginia is looking to build on this year's success and turn the program around, and hiring an elite winner like McCollum could be the key to achieving that goal.

Fare statement. But if you were to put yourself in their place, how would you feel about what the social media was saying about you and your sons? wouldn't you be thin skinned also. Growing up I was taught "if you don't have anything good to say about a person don't say anything". Social media oversteps the boundary line in so big of ways. It's out of hand.
They should have shut it off. But then Marge also got involved & the apples don't fall far from the beooootch....

No reason to believe Beth doesn’t feel the same way.

I don't know if it is or isn't his dream job, but being an Iowa native might have something to do with it. Did he grow up an Iowa fan? I really have no idea.
I know someone who is related to his mom's 2nd cousin. And they told my 3rd cousin that BM's mom & dad & his in-laws want him at Iowa. Then my third cousin on my great aunt's side, she said it's a done deal. But then his dad's uncles' brother is his financial adviser and told him to go for the pot o' gold. Then BM's agent's brother-in-law talked to the grandmother of Beth's gf & said, "not so fast my friend". Nothing is a done deal until the signatures are on the dotted lines. Stay tuned as it's all Looney Tunes all the time on this board!

looney tunes i might have miss a th in there GIF

Its not a done deal with BM. If BM doesn't feel the program will have the resources to keep current recruits and get new one's, he won't come. He's a competitor.

So he’ll go to Drake with no NIL, but will demand a large NIL to go somewhere else because he otherwise wouldn’t be able to win.
Just telling an opinion I heard from someone that knows him...you can translate what I said however you want. And don't you think D1 requires more monies etc than D2? Lol

No biggie. I just feel it’s odd that he would go to Drake (D1) with virtually no resources, but won’t go somewhere else unless promised significant resources.

Whatever. If he comes to Iowa, fine. If he doesn’t, he doesn’t. I believe if Beth wants him, she is putting together whatever is necessary to get him.

No reason for us to argue about it!

Agreed the guy I talked to was like BM leaves no stone unturned. Beth liked BM more but donors liked DD more. Now that DD is out, I’d imagine she’s going to fight tooth and nail to get BM signed.

After watching Drake last night I’d say Beth is right. The guy can flat out coach! Might have dodged a bullet not getting Devries.

Thank you for your pessimistic speculation, which you stated as fact for some reason.

We're gonna have the best chance. A very strong and very wonderful chance.

Oh FFS how do u even know that?
Talking out of your a$$… the deal could be done for all u know. Truth is NO ONE has any close but probably Beth and BM.
And what do I have to gain by lying about what I heard or making it up? What is the big deal with your BOLD type! And it sounds sensible to me. By the way, no need for your remarks and I think you are talking out yours! "No one has any close" lol? Ok :)

How bout no one has any IDEA? Typo. Point stands.,u don’t know as much as the next fan.,none of us do

No one knows anything except this and this fact should help people’s anxiety……Iowa’s number 1 target is still coaching in the tournament. Otherwise why else would there be a delay in naming a coach?

Odom loses. Immediately named as new coach at VA. Devries misses the tournament and immediately named as IU coach.

Our #1 guy is still coaching.

So is WVU #1 choice.

That's seems true. If we can't out ‘recruit’ WVU for a head coach then the program really is in a sadder state than ever.

I personally believe that McCollum has been Beth’s #1 choice all along. The reasons she may have favored him are multiple I suspect. No buyout. Better overall results. Better word of mouth from experts in the coaching field on who is better fit. Since DD was named as IU coach much has come out about him that may not shine the best light on him. Additionally if he is a coach that needs max NIL to succeed then maybe he isn't as good of a coach as we are led to believe.

We can pay better than WVU. Any school that could have allegedly have paid DDs buyout could certainly afford higher pay. DD was making less than Fran at WVU. I feel strongly that Beth knows her guy, has had positive communications with him, has informed donors and they are ready to bump up NIL. The idea we missed on DD I think is incorrect. There is no evidence of this at all. The only source asserting this is questionable at best. Iowa Burner Network.

Morgantown vs Iowa City? Lol. That hilarious. WVU AD that BM reportedly has a relationship with from his last school already passed on him prior. You think he doesn't remember that?

Lastly this tells all you need to know…

"I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect this," McCollum said after the win, according to Eli Lederman of ESPN. "I expected exactly this. I expected [my players] to compete. I brought winners with me. That's what I brought. I guess my superpower is finding winners, finding tough kids and believing in them. So I kind of expected this. I'd be lying if I said I didn't.“

None of that tells me he demands max NIL at his school of choice. So this idea WVU is a better suitor because of their NIL budget and our supposedly low NIL budget misses in a couple of ways. First our new budget is likely to go up noticeably. Second I don't think that's a major factor in what BM wants in a new school.
