INSIDER INFO

It would be very good if Iowa could announce McCollum as the head coach tomorrow (assuming that is the case).

That would provide maximum TV exposure during the Sunday NCAA coverage.

My thinking is thetDrake team will want to stick together as they have unfinished business---Iowa one of the few places that would take the entire team.

$5 million in NIL is enough to get Stirz, the rest of the Drake team, and still have money left over. I think McCollum probably figures he needs a Big Man. That Texas Tech Big that destroyed Drake was a portal pickup from New Mexico....lot of good, lower paid players in that conference ripe to be bought. McCollum is the guy I want making GM decisions. So glad Fran is gone.

I also wonder if he will pick some MVC guys that he liked for his value.

A program like Iowa, with BMac as coach, could do some real damage getting NIL bargains from conferences just a level down from the P4 (ie MWC, etc). No reason to look at P4 players.

Several head coaches' names have been mentioned in connection with the job, but one appears to be the favorite among the West Virginia program: Ben McCollum. McCollum is a four-time national champion at the Division II level.

"Ben McCollum appears to be WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker's leading candidate, according to most reports on the program's coaching search," Joseph Smith wrote. "It makes plenty of sense too-McCollum was rumored to be on Baker's shortlist during the coaching search last spring that landed Darian DeVries."

It seems that Baker is poised to go all-in on McCollum once again. On Thursday night, McCollum led his Drake squad to victory over a strong Missouri program. In his first year as a Division I coach, McCollum has already guided Drake to 31 wins this season. West Virginia is looking to build on this year's success and turn the program around, and hiring an elite winner like McCollum could be the key to achieving that goal.
At the Big Ten level you will have to have good nil money to win consistently . It’s doable at Iowa.

Iowa doesn’t have 5 million for basketball, Swarm raised 5-6 million total for all sports last year.

FFS Iowa isn't "finalizing" anything with him. His team is playing in the tourney. Either Beth has him in the fold....or not. No negotiations or "finalizing" is going on this weekend.
Main points negotiated with agent. Final discussion tomorrow morning with an announcement on Sunday at 3pm and press conference on Monday.

That’s my best guess.

They didn't. They will have that next year.

If you guys haven't figured it out yet, Fran was the sticking point and the AD wasn't going to fundraise for him because she wanted to replace him.

No…McCollum family should have no interest in Morgantown, WV.

Historically, his teams have played this way a lot and there is nothing wrong with it. Winning is the important thing.
Personally, I like that fact that he can change the pace and adjust to what works best. It's ok to play slower and get points somehow, shorten the game, get a better look, etc. if you can't play fast for whatever reason. Think Bo Ryan.

My biggest beef w Fran was not stressing D :)
I think that was the case with A LOT of people. 😜

However, doesn’t Big 10 TV revenue $ kick in too…starting next year?

If I may ask, who is the source of this info in bold?

Something doesn't add up to me. Believe it's been reported that MBB only got $1.5MM to work with. That's 30% of $5MM and 25% of $6MM. My gut check says that doesn't leave much for FB and WBB much less all other sports (wrestling aside).

According to Brad H. himself he used a 80% FB, 10% MBB and 10% WBB model to disburse funds to sports at least for donations less < $1k. However he changed that not too long ago to allow you to donate any amount to any sport. He also stated that he thought he was at fault for possibly under funding MBB. This would say he did the opposite and over funded it.

Another problem I see with that number is it's my understanding people didn't want to donate to a sinking ship (MBB). Think home attendance alone would back this up.

Does MBB receiving 25% - 30% of NIL seem right to you?

Think what I stated would make you scratch your head making the numbers work.

It's entirely possible I'm misunderstanding something also. I have no problem with you correcting me on what I'm missing here.

They’ll have an extra $2.5 million next year from the House settlement, so without any increase at all, they’ll be at $4 million.

$5 million isn’t a stretch at all.

Now, every other B1G SEC school will have the same increase.
