Trump vows to rename Denali, North America's tallest mountain, as Mt McKinley

Sage advice.
I always appreciate your attempts to engage in constructive dialogue, but some posters just aren’t worth it. Their entire existence on this board (and/or the interwebs) is to get a rise out of posters. They offer no original thought or insight, and when proven wrong, will simply change the subject/move the goal post. You’re too good of a poster to continue to waste your time.

It's a message board. What would you like to discuss on a slow, Monday 2 days before Christmas? Also, why does respecting the wishes of Native Alaskans have to be a "left" issue. Why can't that be non-partisan?
Because only you guys are complaining about it. It's like changing the name of the Redskins...great job on that one, why don't you guys just stop telling everyone else what to be offended by.

These guys are amazing in their cluelessness. I live in such a stupid country. Also openly declaring themselves racist on a message board.

Anyway, who appears to be "telling everyone else what to be offended by" here by this action by Trump? Bringing the "Redskins" thingie into this? So full of shit. Such special snowflakes.

Sorry if Pepsi (I searched for "Denali").

Trump vows to rename Denali, North America's tallest mountain, as Mt McKinley

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said on Sunday he will rename Denali, Alaska natives' name for North America's tallest mountain, after William McKinley, the 25th U.S. president who was assassinated in 1901.

Democratic former President Barack Obama in 2015 officially renamed the mountain as Denali, siding with the state of Alaska and ending a decades-long naming battle. The peak had been officially called Mount McKinley since 1917.

"They took his name off Mount McKinley," Trump said in a speech to supporters in Phoenix. "He was a great president," Trump, a Republican, said, adding that his administration will "bring back the name of Mount McKinley because I think he deserves it."

The mountain, which has an elevation of more than 20,000 feet (6,100 meters), was named Mount McKinley in 1896 after a gold prospector exploring the region heard that McKinley, a champion of the gold standard, had won the Republican nomination for president.

The U.S. Department of the Interior, in the 2015 order that was signed by Obama changing the name to Denali, noted that McKinley had never visited the mountain and had no "significant historical connection to the mountain or to Alaska."

Denali, the local Athabascan name, meaning "the High One," was officially designated as the peak's name in 1975 by the state of Alaska, which then pressed the federal government to also adopt the name.

Since then, Alaska lawmakers had petitioned the U.S. Board on Geographic Names to change the name to Denali officially but it had been blocked for decades.

Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, a Republican, pushed back on Trump's pledge to rename the mountain.

"There is only one name worthy of North America’s tallest mountain: Denali - the Great One," Murkowski wrote in a post on X.

McKinley, who served two terms as governor of Ohio before becoming president in 1897, led the country to victory in the Spanish-American War and raised protective tariffs to promote U.S. industry, according to the White House website on presidents.
Trump has Obama Derangement Syndrome.

You’re going to get a bunch of this white supremacist bullschidt in term #2.
"Renaming a mountain is white supremacy!"

Lol the modern left is a joke, looking to be offended by anything and everythkng bc you're miserable people. Wait until we rename the black hills to "elon's mounds" and add trumps face to mt Rushmore.

It seems to me the ones who are offended are the White Nationalist types pissed that a mountain’s name was restored to its historical indigenous name rather than an irrelevant white man’s.

Here are some things for ya:

A. Link to where I'm offended.

B. Definition of "you guys".

C. Why is it important to you that the mountain be named Mt. McKinley? Why do you care? (maybe answer post #50)

D. Here's a shirt for ya. Merry Christmas:

I mean, sure, why not name it after some guy who's never even seen the Mountain. Because Trump clearly couldn't care any less about the indigenous people in Alaska. Tell me, Scrud, how much time have you've spent in Alaska and how familiar you are with the culture.

The official naming of Mount McKinley as Mount Denali holds significant cultural and historical importance for Alaskans, particularly for Native Alaskan communities. The name "Denali" is derived from the Koyukon Athabaskan language, meaning "The High One" or "The Great One," and has been used by local indigenous peoples for centuries to describe the towering peak. For many Alaskans, particularly Native Alaskans, the renaming of the mountain to Denali was seen as a way to honor the indigenous heritage and reclaim a name that reflects their history and connection to the land.

In addition, the name change symbolized a recognition of Alaska's unique identity, distinct from the lower 48 states. For decades, the mountain was officially known as Mount McKinley, named after President William McKinley, even though the local populations had always referred to it as Denali. The movement to restore the mountain’s original name became a point of pride, as it represented respect for native cultures and the autonomy of Alaska. The decision to officially rename the mountain in 2015 was celebrated as an act of cultural restoration and acknowledgment of Alaska's rich indigenous history.
Too bad…we’re all one country so it should still be named Mt. McKinley. It’s stuff like this that further divides the country, i.e., trying to appease small pockets of the country. 🤨

Would those around you consider you a deep thinker? Do your peers tend to disqualify you from some conversations?

Not remotely offended. But then again, I am technically a person of color.
Why did Obama feel the need to change it from Mt. McKinley to Denali?
To appease the butt hurt lefties who wouldn't stop crying. They didn't stop there, of course. There were professional sports team names that also had them clutching their pearls for dear life. Softest people in the history of our species.

Yes, ignore common sense. Be upset about a mountain name being changed back to what it used to be! White supremacy!!
Denali IS the "name it used to be" before white men took that name from the Native Americans and gave it a new name after a white guy who'd never seen the mountain.

And no one is offended. We just simply support something that's really a slam dunk, no brainer. Ask yourself this, why does Trump feel the need to change it back? He's not getting asked to change it back by the people of alaska, so why. Why is this important to him? What does he gain from this?

But how does the mountain identify? What is its truth?

This is a dumb topic… Trump says he wants to rename a renamed mountain that most of the country has no idea exists. My contribution to this thread is exactly what the topic deserves.
Thank you for thoroughly proving my point. This ONLY matters to Alaskans so why does Trump give a crap? Here's your timeline:

FOR CENTURIES: Mountain called Denali
1917: Mountain renamed after some dead president who has zero ties to said mountain.
2015: Mountain renamed to original name at the behest of the Native Alaskans.
2025: Trump, who's also never seen the Mountain nor has any ties to it, wants to change it back.

Why does Trump care about this mountain? The issue was finally resolved nearly a decade ago. Why mess with it? As you said, no one in the lower 48 gives two flying farts about the mountain, so why does Trump want to piss off Native and Resident Alaskans?

Has obamacare actually saved anybody? I'd argue it's negatively impacted health nationwide by giving unprecedented power to big healthcare and big insurance which has led to thousands more out of pocket for the average American per year. And amazingly (though not shockingly) costs on all Healthcare services have gone up astronomically.
Yeah you’re right big healthcare insurance companies had little power before 2010 😂😂
