Iowa at Michigan predictions

I think we get the big road win. Need to take advantage of their brutal schedule and lots of games in short amount of days. Hopefully learned from our failed double teams on their BIG. Need the Murrays to both show up on their A games and Cmac keep lighting it up from 3 as the wild card. Can't wait! Go Hawks!!

I hope they prove me wrong as they have these last couple weeks.

Michigan 79
Iowa 74

I also believe the game will be called in favor of Michigan but we do have a chance, we’ll see how there legs are feeling about the 12 minute mark of the 2nd half

Maintain the same intensity”ALL” game long. 24 needs to be on the court and not on the bench nursing foul trouble.

What’s the status of Patrick being able to play and do we have any plan for shutting down their four?

I’m hoping we get HD in early foul trouble by going straight at him with the Murrays and Pmac(if healthy), and our guards can hit some 3’s when they get the chance. If we can do that and keep up the good defense, we should come out on top.

Iowa 81
Michigan 75

Iowa didn't do too well against their guard play if I remember. This game will be up to JBo, Toussaint, Perkins, CMAC and Ulis

Iowa only wins 33% on the road under Fran and this isn’t Nebraska they are playing tonight. Iowa will keep it close, like they always do, but Michigan will cover tonight.

In IC, Keegan missed 5 freethrows and the 3 point percentage shooting was horrible - 22%. In Ann Arbor gives the nod to Michigan.

This is the weird thing.

I think Iowa is the overall better team but Michigan is a bad matchup for us in a couple different ways. Also, with it being on the road and M needing the win, I will give them the nod.

Ok.....so this is a prediction thread and I don't do well at predictions but here are some thoughts.

Last game v Michigan we had some just weird, odd, out of character turnovers. We shot the ball poorly. Keegan missed important parts of the game with cramps.....and hopefully/probably none of that happens in this game. I think the Hawks are playing better now and I feel there's less pressure since we should be in the NCAA Tournament.

However.......Michigan also appears to be playing better (without Howard) and they just came off of a significant win stretch, beating a tough Illinois team by 8? and stomping MSU (like we did). This game is on their home floor, AND they are a bad matchup for us.

So, though I feel better about this game than I did the home game I still give the edge to Michigan....I honestly just hope that we play well and don't lose our mojo.

Big game for the Hawkeyes, we have missed on a few good opportunities this year (Rutgers, Penn State) but we have come up strong when we needed it in others,(MSU and OSU). So call it a toss up but I’d like to think this team is still improving not plateauing. So I like the Hawkeyes to pull away in the second half and hold on for an 8-10 pt win

IMO the first 4 minutes in each half are critical

True, not in their totality. However, call travel on Penn State on the 3 to tie, ballgame. Don't call phantom foul on Murray, overtime.
IIRC, in regulation, it was tied, and we had the ball with like 20 seconds left. That situation puts all the pressure on PSU and the odds strongly in our favor. But we had to get at least a free throw out of that. I don't think we even got a shot that hit the rim. That lack of planning cost us the game and has many times. If favorable situations are not taken advantage of, then the final result is subject to the fate of a lucky shot or bad call.

You almost never see WI get beat in those kind of situations. They are 8-0 this year in games decided by 4 points or less. They have been behind late in several of those games. Yet I don't think any of them even went to OT.

Those results are not random. They are the result of very thorough planning and drilling. On the other hand, over the years, our reaction in these situations always appears to be complete surprise and our response to be random and comically ineffective.

I thought the first 38 minutes against Michigan in the last game was the worst we've played all year, save ISU. I don't see us playing that badly again. We need to do a lot better job of defending Dickenson without the double team, which I think means more of Kris or even Keegan on him and less of Rebraca. I don't see Diabate going off on us again like he did, he's not that consistent. I also think not having their head coach has to start wearing on them. I think we win by 7.

This might be the best post on this board. There is no doubt we have left many wins on the floor in the McCaffery era due to terrible last second play both to end the half, and to end the game. Jbo has helped change that a little bit, and the Weiscamp bank in was memorable, but we are not good in those situations. I would like to know the percentage of games we win taking the last shot.

No, actually the game will be decided by players. Funny how that works
You mean like the one earlier this season when the game-winning three was allowed despite the shooter blatantly traveling? Or countless others over the years?

Nice try, Mrs. Borowski but, sadly, the evidence fails to support your assertion. Funny how evidence works.

A win tonight will go a long way to getting at least a 5 seed in the BTT. Go Hawks!

Diabate had his career game against Iowa. That isn't happening again. I think Iowa wins this game by 10+. 🤞

I agree that Josh O could play a key role in this game. Maybe he won't see the floor, but I think Josh could work Dickerson over for 10 minutes or so and really help out tonight. We'll see.

But whatever transpires, I hope it ends up with the Hawkeyes getting revenge on Michigan because, as others have noted, Iowa played its worst game in months when the Wolverines visited Iowa City, yet Iowa had an open three that would have tied it with 30 seconds to play. It's time for the Hawkeyes to play well and win again against a good team in a tough environment.

Iowa failed to be ahead by enough to keep an official's call from contributing to the outcome. They failed to control their own destiny in a game where the best and most willful team that night will almost always do just that.

Teams that allow ref blaming into their locker room are losing teams. Winning isn't easy. There is no room for the weak minded

You can fit a few more sports cliches in there if you really try.

I hope I'm wrong but Michigan also has a lot to play for, and it's their senior day. Doesn't seem like we match up well with their bigs.. So I'm going to say Michigan by 5.
