*****Southern U. vs Iowa Game Thread*****

We constantly have skinny and weak 6’7” guys trying to play the perimeter so of course we suck on defense. Can’t stay in front of guys can’t rotate don’t take charges.
Most of you hate Brock on defense but he is probably the only guy out there that helps and plays aggressive defense.
We are a weak passive defensive team coached by a hot head. A turnover is worse than 10 blow bys in his mind.

Brock has limitations on D for sure but puts in great effort, generally has a clue mentally and does generate some steals. Haters tend to exaggerate how often he sells out to go for steals.

Not great. Defense looks as bad as always. Owen still didn't look as dominant as I feel like he should in these games and he got into foul trouble.

Positives: Pryce looks confident and can fill it up from 3 just like Payton.

Thelwell looks like a good smart player.
I have been surprised to see him look slow off his feet. He looks heavier but not in a good way.

Transition defense looking bad.
The entire defense looks bad. They constantly lose players inside. They can't stop the dribble drive. It's not just the lack of athleticism which is obvious at times. They also look really poorly coached on that end. In short, it's another year of Iowa basketball.

I will say that Pryce Sandfort looks like a stronger better version of Payton right now. Guy was on fire tonight.

I will say that in the grand scheme this won't be one of the worst teams Iowa has had in the last 25 years.

I would still take this lineup over anything in the Lickliter era.

The problem is this is a 15th year coach and this program appears squarely stuck in mid-tier hell as that spunky underdog that always looks like they're having to punch above their weight when playing the expected contenders of the conference, let alone any actual upper tier team they face in the non-con or tourney.

They're certainly capable of occasionally knocking off a team or two when punching above their weight, but at the end of the season, these rosters inevitably show out as the fringe mediocre talent level that we thought they'd be.................

Fart noises.
