Iowa at West Point

I was hoping to make it to that match, but I came down with RSV a few days ago and I have been laid out. I will need to avoid people for another week.

If you get a chance, take the tour of West Point while you are there. Very historic place and the tour guides are outstanding. Buy your tour tickets at the visitor’s center before you approach the front gate.

It’s very cool to tour West Point. The history and the location are amazing. This time of year the campus will be covered with Beat Navy signs.

Army will be a good matchup. Using wrestlestat and feeding the same lineup we had against CBU, their result is Army winning by a point. But, they have PK losing to a lower ranked wrestler and I dont see that happening Thursday. I would feel better about it if we get Ybarra in at 25 and Woods and Swafford in the meet.

I think if we were gonna see Ybarra at 125 we would have seen it Sunday. Brands has consistently mentioned Ybarra being in the 133 mix. I personally think this is coach speak from Brands and he’s not in the 133 mix, but I do wonder if his days at 125 are over.

Really excited Iowa is paying back the debt of Army filling in last year. This road trip is likely my only chance to see the Hawks in person…who’s with me?!?
No, but I will see you in Albany.
I really like scheduling Army early in the season, because they're always in condition due to year-round military training. Later in the year, they don't have the talent to challenge top-20 guys, but early in the season, some of their guys may surprise you. Best not to take Army for granted early in the season.

Seating may be somewhat “tight”. United States Military Academy wrestling schedule indicates the match will be held in the old Edward C. Christi Arena, seating for 5,043 spectators. Get there (very) early if you want a Luxury Seat.

I purchased my ticket already and it is an assigned seat in the lower section. It has a chair back so I assume that is luxury.

Chair backs appear to be ten rows up in “nosebleed,” section. Lol

Maybe the very first row after bleachers?

Purely speculatory on my part, but I imagine Ybarra knows he’s got zero chance at starting as a 125lber with Lee returning. His chances are much better at 133. He bet on himself and apparently lost.

Could be true. If so it’s a pretty poor bet. Obviously he isn’t going to wrestler in March at 125 but you gotta think he has a better chance of getting some spot starts there then at 133 with two presumably healthy guys to beat out. If he can get back down to 125 I think he’d be our guy there when resting Lee.

Does anyone happen to know what weight our guys created at? Is this listed somewhere? I think this would be a helpful bit of info.

Could he have committed to 133 before Teske came onboard?

I really hope we don’t see the same lineup as CBU. On this trip vs Army, Sacred Heart and Buffalo any chance we free the Lee?

Ybarra, friend...make a smart decision and get your butt down to 125. You don't have the horsepower for 133. But you finally started hitting your offense against Mastrogiovanni last year, and you wrestled him tough. Get down to 125 and show your potential. Your legacy can be backing Spencer Lee in his final season and helping the Hawks win some duals, not riding the pine behind two other guys at 133. If I'd known you were going to make a dumb decision like this I would've advised you earlier.

They are wrestling the Army squad with two wrestlers in the top 30, correct? I am throughly confused by this post.

It shouldn't be a close match. We are favored in 6 matches, all with bonus potential. Army is favored on paper at 125 (#28), 141 (#59), 157 (#49), and 174 (#20).

Harris, Bennett, Siebrecht, and Rhodes are a combined 0-18 so far vs. opponents ranked in the top 60. These Army opponents are great benchmarks for all. (Ybarra could take this 125-er, dammit.)

Wait...what? We are going to roll Army. They are slight faves at maybe 2-3 weights and huge underdogs in most of the rest. Wrestlestat is wonderful in many ways but this isn't one of them.
