So far, so good. Iowa is 6-1 and it's their best start since 1985. I realize the schedule hasn't been the most daunting we've seen, but you can't really complain.

Iowa has a .294 average so far with 64 runs, 18 doubles, 6 homeruns, and a slugging % of .444

Iowa's pitching has an overall ERA of 3.77 with and at this point I think Andrew Hedrick could overtake Sasha Kuebel in the weekend rotation, we shall see.

I've tried to wrap my mind around things and I don't think Iowa is 6-1 and doing this much offensively with Jack Dahm. I can see Iowa losing to St. Bonaventure and one more of the Austin Peay games. I could be wrong, but Coach Dahm played WAY too much small ball. Maybe we are finally seeing the top 3 and 4 classes Dahm always brought in to Iowa City being coached to their potential.

The games get a lot tougher now with southern schools on the slate and a team like Kansas State coming up. Not to mention our first three B1G series are Nebraska, Michigan, and Indiana.

Per @UIBaseball on Twitter:

"#Hawkeyes are leading B1G in Slug%, on-base%, runs (17 more than 2nd), RBIs, 2Bs, HRs, total bases and steals. #strongstart"

Those are pretty substantial numbers and I agree, you are starting to see those talented classes start to put it together. If they can continue to shore up the bullpen in the next few weeks I things will be looking up heading into conference play.

I think it's a combination of the newer bats and the new staff as well as a bit weaker opening schedule.

I do think Heller is an exceptional hitting coach.

Some of the JuCo guys that Coach Dahm brought in have played a big role too like Tyler Peyton, Jake Riffice, and Dan Potempa. I also think we'll be seeing more of Radtke the Villanova transfer and Brandon Shulista another JuCo guy.

In 2001 - UNI was ranked 10th in the nation in hitting with a team average of .333.

The Panthers broke 57 team or individual school records with Heller at the helm, which included UNI posting a 4.63 earned run average in 2006, its lowest ERA since becoming a NCAA Division I program in 1981. UNI also broke team records for hits, runs batted in, doubles and extra base hits during the 2001 season.

coach heller went out and got Peyton after he took the job and rifice was going to Indiana state until coach heller came here.

Heller is a great hitting coach. Dahm's offensive philosophy was terrible. There have been good offensive players on this team in almost every single year for the last 10 years but most didn't realize their potential offensively due to Dahm's offensive philosophy.

I think it was Brownlee's issue. He is a small ball guy and I'm not convinced he was that strong of a hitting coach.

Brownlee is a very strong hitting coach. I can't pinpoint why we rarely saw this level of offense in the past years but I think having a new coaching staff with different philosophies has clicked for some of our hitters.

Brownlee wasn't a small ball guy. You could argue whether he was good or wasn't but the small ball came directly from Dahm. That's the style he believed in. Power and run producing was secondary to manufacturing runs.
