An Iowa City man has been arrested in relation to a shooting that happened over the weekend by the Clock Tower Parking Ramp in Iowa City, according to a news release from the Iowa City Police Department.

Alexander O. Voudhivong, 22, is charged with willful injury causing serious injury, reckless use of a firearm, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent, fourth-degree criminal mischief and assault while participating in a felony.

Iowa City Police were called to the 300 block of Iowa Avenue, near the parking ramp, at 11:45 on Saturday, where they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries, the release states.

A criminal complaint states that Voudhivong took a gun from someone else and then used it to shoot the victim multiple times. Shell casings hit windows on a nearby building, causing an estimated $500 in damage.

Voudhivong then left the crime scene and changed his clothes in an attempt to disguise himself before leaving the area completely, the complaint states.

Voudhivong had his first appearance in court Tuesday and is being held in the Johnson County Jail on cash bonds totaling $165,000.

The shooting still is under investigation, and Iowa City Police anticipate more arrests will be made, according to the release.

That seems like a crime that should result in some prison time.
But, it probably won't. And, then we'll continue to wonder why we see people being reckless with guns.
