I would usually agree but he’s right on this one.. that was not a good showing! Need to see the boys bring some swag back Thursday

Agreed. Free throw shooting was the worse I’ve seen in awhile. And defense by starters was horrid. They got bailed out by our quick freshman who can play defense
Team win. Sometimes the starters just don't have it.
Lucky? No. Gritted out against a team that got hot from 3 while missing too many free throws? Yes.
What do you want Fran to do? He made the correct adjustments to win the game in the end.

The *starters* (aside from Garza) played like crap
And MI State played out of their butts. And lost.
Msu probably played about as good as they could
Gave up a ton of offensive boards, poor free throw shooting, poor 3 point shooting. I’m actually encouraged they won despite all that however.
Wouldn't say they were lucky. MSU played better than they have been and Iowa continued their mediocre play. Bench players and Garza won it for Iowa.

Missed a bunch of free throws, slow on the rebounding, gave up far too many easy 3’s especially in the first half.
Iowa stunk tonight, got lucky, and won.
Better than playing well and losing, but it’s still concerning to me.

Starters got down 10pts to start the game and gave up 7 pt lead in 2nd half.....they are terrible defensive lineup.
Fran needs to address this with starting lineup because it lets teams hang around and contend when they get
the starter's defense and they shoot open Horse shots.

Exactly. MSU is talented and they are finally getting back from Covid outbreak. Just beat badly last game and they know they need wins. They were a dangerous wounded animal and we missed a shit ton of fts and STILL WON. This was Fantastic!

Yes, the Hawks did not play well. Yes, they can’t play like this and expect to win many games.
But....they kept their heads and continued to battle. They gutted out the win.....which you have to do sometimes.

These starters (Frederick is hurt so he gets a pass for now) other than LG are playing like they do not give a s+++. They also appear to be lazy. Pretty pathetic effort by starting group with a couple of exceptions. They play like this against OSU they will lose by 20 points.

lack of defense, couldn’t rebound, and FT shooting was terrible. Thankfully the bench players wanted the win more.

After being on this board for years, I’m convinced if Iowa went 29-0 and won the BTC and NC, some would still be critical. Enjoy it folks. The Big Ten is tough. Michigan St and others have great players. Not every game will be a blowout.
All things being equal, Iowa should easily beat MSU at Carver this year. For some reason Iowa’s starters (save for Garza) didn’t take the Spartans seriously. They were lackadaisical and fortunately Iowa won.
It’s the truth: Iowa was lucky to get this win. The Hawks played without passion, without urgency. They were slow on decent, gave up far too many rebounds, missed too many FTs. They won, and I’m glad. But, there is no denying that Iowa played like like crap, got lucky, and won.
To me, the mark of a great team is not playing your best and still grinding out a win.
Well, in fairness, there were a lot of long rebounds and Michigan State is a lot quicker than Iowa's starters.
To be honest, I think Michigan State played about as well as they're capable of. Granted, they were aided by lackluster defense from the Iowa starters, but they still deserve some credit.
Starters, other than Garza, were 6/20 from the field.
