We have a lot of threads going and I thought I'd post my thoughts on Iowa hs guys that could get to the d1 level. This is for uncommitted kids.

106-Briscoglia, Devos, Faught, Reeves. Bris and Reeves both were cadet AA last summer and bris placed at super 32. I'm assuming we will see these guys up against each other all spring and summer.

113-Teske is about it. He's great. He kills everyone in state but has not faired so well against elite competition. We already have a lot of out of state talent coming in and don't see a big need for him. He's a D1 kid and a four timer for sure but he's not really a need.

120-none

126-Thompsen. He's the man. He needs to improve on the mat. With a few small changes he could have won super 32 and he would be ranked a lot higher. I'd pick him in a match against the majority of the kids ranked above him. His dad is small and he cuts zero weight to get to 126 so I see him as a 33/41. He is a first year junior this year so Fargo will be a bear.

132-none

138-Brands continues to improve. How big will he get?

145-Zachary. He definitely passes the eye test but we have no idea how good he really is. I really wish he could have met up with Happel this year. It'd be great if we could get him for little money and see if he developes.

152-clingenpeel. Kids a stud and a grinder. He pounded Matt Malcolm 8-1 before the season. It sounds like he has to go Juco though.

160-none

170-Shiltz and Coleman. Coleman beat a few nationally ranked kids at the CB invite before running into Mark Hall. He also got 2nd at Cadets. He's legit and getting better. It's hard to tell on Schiltz. He looks like a stud but doesn't wrestle out of season. He had a close loss to a tough kid from kc earlier this season. He was just coming off an injury and it was his first meet with no practice. The coaches I've spoke to think Schiltz is the better of the two but who knows at this point.

182-Lyon. Looks like an animal. Let's hope he has a great offseason and proves he's the real deal.

195-Cook-he's a hammer. Make a decision kid. We'd love to have you.

220-Wriedt. Who are you and where did you come from? I hope we see him compete this off season so we can see a bigger sample size.

Someone mentioned there was a reason Teske had a poor Fargo. He does have some good out of state wins though. Bottom line, he is just a soph and if his trajectory keeps going up they need to get him.

No offense to Teske but theres a chance he never sees the lineup at Iowa or maybe his SR year. We have Mejia and Renteria already committed(Only a year older), and Wagner & Rathbun(2 yrs older apiece). Plus Happel(2 yrs older)/Turk @141 and we're hoping to get Thomsen(same age) to fit into these lower weights as well. On top of all of this more than anybody I hope we get Spencer Lee(1 year older). Thats a tough row to crack. But if he wants to come to Iowa and wants to try to win the spot I'm all for it, but at a certain point I dont think TnT want to tie up too much scholarship money between lightweight studs in 3 weights all with similarly overlapping eligibility. Maybe I'm completely off base.

Lee & Thomsen are the only two lightweight recruits I am interested in the hawks landing currently, just my opinion. I think TnT need to start looking to upper weights. Lyon may be a good one, hoping he competes nationally this summer to see how he fares against the top ranked opponents.

You missed Geerts from New Hampton at 132. Not cutting any weight and was a match from double AA at Fargo last year. May have been the most improved wrestler from last season to this one. Probably not an Iowa level kid but could easily end up at a UNI.

It is all going to depend on how things are looking when Teske is a Sr. I hope we did not tie up much $$$ in Wagner and Rathbun as their overall ranks are #84 and not ranked. Obviously getting Lee would be a big factor, as would Thomsen if he is under 141. Without Lee and Thomsen we have 2 lower end recruits and then Mejia at #19 and Renteria at #32. By the time Teske is a Sr. we will know who else has made it to town and if they look like they are going to get it done or not. We should know more about Teske then as well. Time will reveal all.

We need those two guys. Can't let PSU get too far ahead of us. The Hall deal hurt bad. But you are correct, lots of small horses, we need some Clydesdales.

It's Biscoglia and Alex Thomsen, but I know this board loves it's name misspellings.

To add to this, Brands isn't cutting weight to make 138, maybe a tiny bit, but I think he could have gone to 132 easily, but after watching him do what he did to Zach Barnes, there is obviously no need for him to do so.

Wriedt took 4th at Fargo Cadets this summer. I am going to toot my horn and say that I was the one on the IA Wrestle panel that voted for him to be a top p4p guy in his class (http://iawrestle.com/2015/11/24/ia-wrestle-iowa-high-school-pound-for-pound-junior-rankings/)

Until they grow, you can forget kids at 106 lbs., 113 lbs., 120 lbs., and in all probability 126 lbs. These guys are just too small to be considered serious D1 recruits at 125 lbs./133 lbs. A high school Senior/Junior at these weights will eventually struggle against legitimate college 125/133 lbs. wrestler, they are just too undersized. A kid who is a high school Freshman/Sophomore and wrestles successfully at the lower weights could eventually grow into a D1 wrestler (i.e.; Zahid Valencia), time-will-tell.

I would have signed 9th grader Cliff Moore if I had a pen and a school.

Drake Doolittle. Freshmen from Webster City. Took 3rd at 113 in 2A. Has a win against 2x champ Portillo. Wrestled 4/5 times due to being in same conference/district. All matches very good, multiple SV wins for Portillo. His experience beat Doolittle.

OSU is hot after Doolittle. They like his name.

I see what you did there.

His style is opposite OSU. Constant motor, high scoring. It's gotten him in trouble a few times being DQ'ed for slams twice. Once costing him a shot at state but the kid he slammed couldn't go due to the slam and concussion, so Doolittle eventually got the spot.

Wriedt took 3rd at heavyweight last year wrestling at a shade under 240 lbs. good wrestler with room to grow. Also plays football.

Last I heard Rathburn was a wait and see until year 2 or 3. He always wanted to be a Hawk.

I believe there's not much/if any being invested in Wagner either at this moment. His father will take care of things

They are both great Iowa HS kids that wanted to be hawks. I think they are both kind of here's books now lets see how you develop. If I had to pick one of the two I'd pick Wagner(in the long run).

Anyone think Millage (2a 120 runner-up) will make it to D1? I thought he wrestled well against Portillo and was the better wrestler for 5:30 seconds of their finals match. Portillo hit the 5 point move to win but I think Millage looks tough.
