Team gets a B- for the win. I don’t think any of the individuals wrestled well enough for an A, and that’s ok.
I'm not big into this grading shit, but Cobe and Brands both deserve an A+.
We needed wins when they stepped onto the mat and they gave us a major.
Outside of 133, they're the only 2 who haven't had deep runs in March and both came out and gave us bonus points. Those matches were HUGE.

Didn't get to watch, recorded it. But sounds like you're right. It's early December. This was the most important day on the ISU wrestling calendar, good for them for bringing some fight. But March is what matters.
He'll be fine. He's 11 months removed from a double ACL repair.
Common sense tells me that he couldn't do any conditioning whatsoever for months. MONTHS. He'll make big jumps over the next few weeks.
Not sure about the Ds for Murin and Warner (I think Bs for both), but I give Iowa State As at 141, 149, 165, 184, and 197.

You expect two of your most experienced wrestlers not to post D's with Murin & Warner. Same story with Murin being ultra conservative. Assad, same old story, can't finish. Thought Kennedy would give Carr a competitive match. Carr is the man at 165 but at some point Kennedy's potential has to become reality. Never seen so many of our guys completely out of gas compared to ISU wrestlers. Awesome to see Lee & Woods debut.

Kennedy has a LONG ways to go to AA in the toughest weight class. Carr looked huge compared to him and Kennedy was completely outclassed.
Pretty disappointing considering Kennedy is our most prized recruit the last 4 years. And this is his 3rd year here. My opinion.
Your grades average out to a 2.4 or almost a c+ that seems abought right. Did they say Iowa states 141 was a true freshman? he certainly gave the transfer kid all he wanted.
When Murin looses he’s going to look “conservative” as you say. Keep in mind he’s essentially a one tie wrestler. if Murin doesn’t get to his inside collar. He has a hard time generating offense. Occasionally we see him shoot a low double from space but against an athletic wrestler like Johnson, that shot likely won’t end well.
Murin is the very definition of grinder. He is what he is. He’s a borderline AA/r12 guy.

Gonna give the dual an A and credit both teams especially the Hawks for conceding nothing and securing the win. Lots of Iowa wrestlers sitting in those coaching chairs today and a lot of good, tough, savvy wrestling to go along with it.

Active, decent rider but gotta score. If he were wearing another singlet CHA would have Boo'd him off the mat. But it's his first rodeo and isu kid battled, Woods will improve.

No shots, 9 minutes of tying up and doing nothing. Bad Max showed up today.

He doesn't have a full toolbox but he uses the ones he has. Multiple TDs, 4 NF and a major. Nice work kid!

Outclassed, outworked, out everything.

Major decision, TDs, NF, tough ride.
Abe - C
He did get off a few nice shots but couldn't finish. Bad shot led to Coleman's TD.
Warner - C-
Battled back after a poor 1st per but no TDs and failed to finish with the match on the line. He was pissed after the match but you can't wrestle like that against top competition and expect to win.
Tony - B-
Looked like he was cruising and then kinda shut down mid-2nd per. Then was inches away from a reverse Brooks Simpson result. Still had 3 TDs and got the Save for this dual.
Overall - B-
Got the win but took some heroics from Lee and our 2 non-AA wrestlers. Five losses on the day. Six matches with zero TDs is 100% unacceptable.
Not a masterpiece but a win is a win. Still have high expectations for Woods and Warner. Murin and Abe have a long way to go to be AAs.
March is what matters to Iowa. This dual is what matters to ISU. Just the truth.
Lee gets an A+, IMO. No live action in such a long time—to come out and bonus a guy in basically one period, while simultaneously keeping us from getting bonused at that weight, won the dual.

Thoughts: Lee first match back could have been better but he's on a long journey of recovery and still won by major. Murin loss is disappointing for Iowa but not a major upset, isu kid is tough. Kennedy is no Marinelli, at least not yet. He will have to battle to make the podium at 165 this year. Good showing for brands. Not a good start to a super senior year for warner. Dean also lost to former teammate beard so 197 is wide open. Best showing isu has had vs Iowa in how long?

4 years. We won by 1 point when Stoll came out and helped save the day. The only 1 point differential in the Iowa/ISU series, whic is an amazing stat in a battle that some very close duals though the late 70s and 80s and early 90s.
He ran a true freshman out at 174, rather than going with his starter, Broderson. The newbie he ran out is apparently slotted to wrestle 165 in the future and was likely giving up 10-15 lbs to Nelson.
I read that the newbie pinned Broderson in a scrimmage in kind of a freak throw while he was getting manhandled by Broderson.
To me, it looked like Dresser knew he was going to lose regardless, but might have been hoping for some "lucky throw" against Brands. Instead of a maybe 50/50 match, Karen Dresser gave up the major decision.
The other possibility... Dresser wanted to try and sell a story to Clone fans that they wrestled the Hawks without two starters in the lineup?

I was impressed with ISU’ wrestlers. They brought it. Carr is a stud. Kennedy is good but couldn’t get in on him. Team score much closer than I would have expected. The kid that beat Warner is good. Warner’s laid back approach worked against him today because once he fell behind he couldn’t muster enough offense to win. The kid who wrestled Woods is going to be a good one for ISU… Overall, I give Iowa a C+ … that being said, have to give credit to ISU as this is their best team to date under Dresser.
Dresser's "best team to date" seems like a tallest midget comparison.
When push comes to shove, many of our wrestlers don't have top level offense. Need that at nationals. This is not because they are inexperienced. Outside of a couple guys, this seems to be a trend with Iowa.
