I thought the ISU team were jerks and that's a reflection of the coach At 197 what was the guy doing sticking his tongue out at Warner? What is this elementary school..
I agree with @MitchLL.What was Dresser's blunder?
, which may be the equivalent of Cuban middle school. What is this elementary school..
When push comes to shove, many of our wrestlers don't have top level offense. Need that at nationals. This is not because they are inexperienced. Outside of a couple guys, this seems to be a trend with Iowa.
Spot onI was impressed with ISU’ wrestlers. They brought it. Carr is a stud. Kennedy is good but couldn’t get in on him. Team score much closer than I would have expected. The kid that beat Warner is good. Warner’s laid back approach worked against him today because once he fell behind he couldn’t muster enough offense to win. The kid who wrestled Woods is going to be a good one for ISU… Overall, I give Iowa a C+ … that being said, have to give credit to ISU as this is their best team to date under Dresser.
Agree. Dresser has his guys so geeked out about Iowa. It was only a few years ago after the beatdown in Hilton that Dresser said his guys were scared of the black and gold singlets, it's good to see them bring a little fight. The delusion and hypocrisy over there is pretty thick but glad they were able to control the meltdown this year.all critique aside…… it’s more fun when they’re competitive……that’s what the rivalry is supposed to look like
Back when we used to wrestle them home and away every year….. it was usually hostile like that…… I love it
I largely agree. Only thing I don't care for was Bastida's in-match antics, which seemed more childish. It's not like Warner was egging it on during the match. Wait until the end and then rub it in a bit if you like.all critique aside…… it’s more fun when they’re competitive……that’s what the rivalry is supposed to look like

I agree that Bastida's antics are a bad look, but on the other hand there is a very effective way for Warner to shut him up the last two years and he hasn't done it. NCAA's would be a perfect time to shut him up one last time (think Murin vs. Carr from Illinois).I largely agree. Only thing I don't care for was Bastida's in-match antics, which seemed more childish. It's not like Warner was egging it on during the match. Wait until the end and then rub it in a bit if you like.
Broderson has been a huge disappointment by anyone's metrics.I agree with @MitchLL.
MJ Gaitan went to the elevator well about 3 times too often. Nelson was having none of it. The elite ISU Tr Fr recruit looked way overmatched. I suspect he'll stay in redshirt.
Dresser's motivation may have been to give him an earlier-than-most Carver experience while trying to help a little with Broderson's confidence. Needless to say, it didn't turn out optimally for ISU.
Agreed. I actually came out of this dual less optimistic about March. That was our full lineup and many of those matches were quarterfinal type matches, and those are the type of rounds/matches that have killed us the last couple of years. We just can not get over the hump and get the big takedown. Is it our lack of offensive variance, lack of finishing, getting out scrambled, or all of the above. There were three losses yesterday that could have gone either way (Murin, Assad, Warner) and we lost all 3. Need to go 2 and 1 or 3 and 0 at Nationals in those type of matches to even have a chance. When push comes to shove, many of our wrestlers don't have top level offense. Need that at nationals. This is not because they are inexperienced. Outside of a couple guys, this seems to be a trend with Iowa.
Because Brands etc have an addiction to recruiting grinders who typically don't have mat skills. They are not dynamic on their feet and don't score on the mat. Warner, Bull, Young, Murin, Assad, Schriever, Rathjen, Reyna, Riggins, Franklin ect. When push comes to shove, many of our wrestlers don't have top level offense. Need that at nationals. This is not because they are inexperienced. Outside of a couple guys, this seems to be a trend with Iowa.
He's weighed in at every home dual this year, so it's not the 1st time he's made weight, but is the 1st time he's had to compete after. I do not believe weight is an issue for him at all, just lack of mat time at this point. I'm not worried at all."Lee will be fine" .. bold prediction 🤣
Yeah i don't doubt that's true, never said he wouldn't.
Probably had limited live action no doubt.
He has had matches like this in the past, it's not anything new
I'm wondering what his walk around weight is this year.. he definitely bigger at this point in his career.
No he hasn’t.He's weighed in at every home dual this year, so it's not the 1st time he's made weight, but is the 1st time he's had to compete after. I do not believe weight is an issue for him at all, just lack of mat time at this point. I'm not worried at all.
I actually heard an isu fan say “Even after the loss, Dresser has a iowa right where he wants them.” Such optimism even tho kids in the program weren’t alive the last time isu wonBastida trying to do an imitation of AJ Ferrari?
LOL
Meanwhile, ISU fans can continue to think... "Maybe next year". Problem for them is Iowa will be stronger next year.
Iowa wrestled three kids today that had previously wrestled a total of ONE match this year. Still knocking the rust off at 125, 141, and 174. Iowa is nowhere close to 100%.
Still can't believe Dresser's blunder at 174.![]()
Some Clone fans will NEVER, EVER acknowledge the obvious.I actually heard an isu fan say “Even after the loss, Dresser has a iowa right where he wants them.” Such optimism even tho kids in the program weren’t alive the last time isu won
Next year will be close again. Add Ayala at 125 and Chittum at 149/157 and Glazier at 197 and it looks like:Some Clone fans will NEVER, EVER acknowledge the obvious.
I've said this before...jealousy/envy and hatred are powerful emotions.
ISU couldn't beat Iowa when Heskett and Sanderson were in their primes.
And with Arnold, Chittum, Keuter, and Jesuroga coming to IC...the gap widens.
Murin has been wrestling up to his potential for a few years now. Some are just hoping (unrealistically) that ceiling rises. No, they're D's. And you can throw Assad in there as well.
dude is super consistently good, not great. will have an outside chance to place once again. needs the right r12/quarter match up.Murin has been wrestling up to his potential for a few years now. Some are just hoping (unrealistically) that ceiling rises.
So, did he not weigh in at Cal Baptist or Penn?? Because he did weigh in at one of them. I thought it was both, but guess I might be wrong??No he hasn’t.
That's a reasonable take.I doubt yanking him from the match will do much for his confidence.
It’s just factually incorrect…. He has not got down to weight for each dual. So, did he not weigh in at Cal Baptist or Penn?? Because he did weigh in at one of them. I thought it was both, but guess I might be wrong??
Tigerguy would be a good source, but what I interpreted was Broderson was beating the piss out of the freshman and just got caught. I do read other sites. My views on the Broderson/Gaitan match came after reading the CF scrimmage comments. That's a reasonable take.
In the Dresser presser, he said something like he was 'giving a funky wrestler, beating everyone in the room, a shot' so it seems puncher's chance was his rationale.
So, if MJ is already beating Broderson in the room, then avoiding a potential manhandling by Nelson would seem to me to act to minimize further loss in his confidence. That's all I was saying (trying to help it, not that it would necessarily be successful).
Interesting interpretation... @tigerguy_ ?Tigerguy would be a good source, but what I interpreted was Broderson was beating the piss out of the freshman and just got caught.
So this was the first time wrestling live in 12 months and the first time in a long time he had a tough cut plus started the dual after an hour weigh in. Seems pretty reasonable to me that he gassed. This will make Lee even better in the future though as he gets more acclimated. It’s just factually incorrect…. He has not got down to weight for each dual.
They both have been weighing in for the duals and Dresser went with the guy who wins in the room for yesterday. Hindsight, I'm not sure Broderson will get majored, but Gaitan will go two more times and then redshirt. Broderson or Shapiro will be the guy down the stretch, I think.Interesting interpretation... @tigerguy_ ?

Rojas will be 165 after Carr and Gaitan will fill out to 174. Unless Ferrari causes them to change weights ; )
He definitely has that Greco ability. Just didn't work out yesterday. Also think Gaitan gave them a bigger chance for a home run but Nelson was ready for those positions.
Don't disagree but he didn't look healthy to me..He's weighed in at every home dual this year, so it's not the 1st time he's made weight, but is the 1st time he's had to compete after. I do not believe weight is an issue for him at all, just lack of mat time at this point. I'm not worried at all.
I can see both sides here. Iowa won the three bonus point matches which won the dual, but ISU won the number of total takedowns and Iowa went five or six matches without a takedown. Schriever, pretty sure Woods, Murin, Kennedy, Assad, and Warner. What’s funny about that is Iowa had three matches with bonus to the other team’s zero. It’s what won us the dual. Like Mitch (edit) said, we started 3 guys who had a combined one match between them and they went 3-0.
Dundee Michigan produces hammers.Yes, true freshman and 4x state champ from Michigan.
I thought the ISU team were jerks and that's a reflection of the coach At 197 what was the guy doing sticking his tongue out at Warner? What is this elementary school..
The solution was for Warner to beat him.
Or to stick out his own tongue and THEN beat him.The solution was for Warner to beat him.
I'm tracking that it's early, but guys like Murin, Warner and Assad have been out there every week and if I'm not mistaken they didn't have any major issues over the summer/fall that would have prevented them from being improved bad asses. We have to win these matches that we lost...lost because we didn't do anything to win. What's that quote from the movie, Hoosiers..."can't win if you don't shoot."Ok guys I just love our fan base sometimes. It’s the end of the world because of a close dual with isu. Do you realize how close it was to being 9-1????? Also Please keep doubting Kennedy I am not worried at all about him and his chances of being a AA. Michigan, ASU, Ohio State made Nebraska look like contenders this past weekend. Dean has lost his last 2 matches. It’s early guys and I still like our chances to have 3 or 4 Champs and 3 or 4 AA’s. Is that enough to beat Karl I don’t know but what I do know is nobody else concerns me to beat us.
