Iowa offers 2020 6'10" Xavier Foster of Oskaloosa

His Mom's father played football at Iowa, so there are definite connections. His parents both played basketball at William Penn in Oskaloosa and his Dad is an assistant coach there. Xavier was named player with most upside at Chris Paul's basketball camp this summer. He also went to camps in Las Vegas and Houston. He's been invited to tryout for the 16U USA team as a 14 year old. Baylor and Drake are the others that have shown interest so far, but there will surely be more to come.

Legend doesn't think much of this young man's abilities/athleticism. From what little I've seen (clips) in action, Xavier has a chance to be a very good player (4/5 star), imo. Hopefully Xavier ends up playing for the Hawks.
I suspect that, as tall as he is for as young as he is, there have been times he's looked pretty awkward. But right now he looks like a must-get recruit, being instate. Hence the offer.

there is no way i was just watching a 14 year old kid. even if he doesn't grow another inch taller he has length in spades, and he will only get stronger. nice soft touch on the baby j and nice looking set shot out to 3. if fran is offering this soon i can only suspect he thinks that xavier is going to be very good and felt the need to get in early. i can see why.

I recall a Melvin Foster from Hayden's days.

No brainer to offer right now. Already more upside than Woodbury had as HS senior.

way early to say 4/5 star...but the fact Fran is on him before others...if he does breakout...I would think Fran would have the better chance of landing him.

Just a quick reminder regarding stars. Many high school kids don't even get evaluated by any of the services until well after they are receiving offers. Usually the local Mid-Majors strike first, then the next level D1 schools from nearby. Take a look at this:

http://verbalcommits.com/schools/michigan-state

Bounce around all the Big Ten teams and see how many 2 stars have been offered. (Most cases they just haven't been evaluated yet.)

Believe me, no coach worth his salary is waiting for any service to tell him if a player can play the game or not.

I don't see anyone complaining about his lack of stars. I guess I don't get your warning???

Just another tidbit of info. Xavier's uncle is A.J. Blazek, former Iowa Hawkeye and current OL coach at Rutgers (married his Mom's sister).
AJ Blazek, was that Beutjer's buddy that hastened his departure from Iowa? I like this kid even more now.

I'd understand his lack of offers if he was a junior or senior, but we're talking about a 6'10 freshman in high school. I remember playing against Greg Helmers when he was a senior in HS and he wasn't anywhere as good as this kid is as a freshman.

Holy crap 14? Just think with him and Joe W together, plus Patrick. Add a few more peices and that's a final four team best video I've seen for a 14 year old.

Anybody that thinks differently has no clue and are just whiny Hawks fans

What else does your magic 8 ball say? Projecting how a group of 14, 16, and 18 year olds will play with other unknown players four years down the road is quite the feat.

This kid has got it. Only a freshman. Hope he plays against some decent competition, and lots of AAU. Cordell Pemsl started every game for Dub. Wahlert as a 14- year old freshman and played many of the very best 4A and 3A teams in the state. He had a lot of skills at 14- 15 besides dunking and bunny shots. This kid is pretty quick, taller and just needs some time. Hope he gets good coaching, learns some ball-handling skills, stays in the state and goes with the Hawks. Fran would be an idiot to not offer this kid. If he gets close to 7-0 and really improves, every program in the nation will be after him.

Another good thing with this kid- with his pedigree he should be able to handle Iowa academically. Study, my young man! Academics is one of the reasons some kids get offers and some don't.

Then Legend is a poor judge of talent. Wow, just wow, hard to believe that is a 14 yr old 6'10" kid. Good low post series, the off hand jump hook is off the charts, outstanding release out to 18', and finishing ability.
A lot of very good players have worked very hard trying to get what this kid's got at 14.

Glad to hear he's a self-professed Hawk.

Legend didn't say anything about Foster as a prospect. He called out Lounge posters for saying offering an Iowa kid early was unique for Fran, and that he's a must get after 1 minute and a half of pre-freshman video highlights.

I like what little I've seen and hope he commits to Iowa early, but he has a long way to go before he suits up in college. We've seen early offers go both ways (i.e. Oliver, Horner vs Angle, Bonifas). Lets hope he makes himself an elite player and a Hawkeye.

One thing I really liked in the first video was that on his post moves where he pivots to the middle instead of drop stepping to the baseline side, he used a one handed RIGHT hand shot turning to his left, but used a one handed LEFT hand shot when turning to the right on the opposite block.

He's a right handed shooter, so to use his left like that makes it even easier for him to use whatever hand is farther away from the defender.

Really like him a lot.

I was the one who posted in the Lounge that I liked that Fran had offered early...my reasoning was that Fran has got the Iowa program (with recruiting) to the point he can make early offers (9th graders) without have a serious consequences...I never said anything about it being unique...I also never said Foster was a must get...maybe you are referring to someone else?

When one compares Bonifas to Foster...you also have to compare the time frame of when the offers' came in the Fran Recruiting Era.

I don't know if Foster will turn out to be a 4 star ... what I do know is if he does...Fran was the first to offer from the state...which is a good thing.

Someone else posted he was a must get. I'm not sure what you are getting at about the consequences of early offers then and now. I have little doubt Barnes would have received an offer if Fran had been at Iowa when he was in 8th - 9th grade. How would that have had serious consequences, other than Iowa Blue Chip recruits perhaps not giving Iowa much consideration?
