Iowa offers 2020 6'10" Xavier Foster of Oskaloosa

Then Legend is a poor judge of talent. Wow, just wow, hard to believe that is a 14 yr old 6'10" kid. Good low post series, the off hand jump hook is off the charts, outstanding release out to 18', and finishing ability.
A lot of very good players have worked very hard trying to get what this kid's got at 14.

Glad to hear he's a self-professed Hawk.
That kid is legit. I would say a soiled diaper has more basketball iq than Legend or anyone else who says the kid isn't going to be a major player.

Someone else posted he was a must get. I'm not sure what you are getting at about the consequences of early offers then and now. I have little doubt Barnes would have received an offer if Fran had been at Iowa when he was in 8th - 9th grade. How would that have had serious consequences, other than Iowa Blue Chip recruits perhaps not giving Iowa much consideration?

So are you comparing Foster to Barnes? I'm not ready to say that anyway.

I will try to be more clear with what I mean "without having serious consequences".
Based on Fran's recent (successful IMO) recruiting classes...IF Foster doesn't become an "Iowa Blue Chip" the offer at this moment in time does not have a serious impact. IF he does blow up...the offer at this moment in time should have an impact & that's why I like the offer despite the fact the kid just started his freshman year in high school.

I do not disagree Foster appears to have skill.
I also love the Iowa connection. Hey...if Fran likes him...I like him.

I also like...that IowaState has not offered..;)..then again they don't overly recruit & sign Iowa kids anyway.

Fran McCaffrey visited my hometown last night to watch 2020 Xavier Foster and 2019 6'7" Cole Henry work out. Before leaving, he offered Foster a scholarship. Youngest player Coach Fran has ever offered.

Fran offered a 2020 kid out of North Carolina earlier this summer so he isn't the youngest player ever offered if you go by graduation year. I think his last name was mckorkel or something like that.

He's pretty smooth and will get a lot stronger and more explosive these next few years of high school that he still has left.
His form looks great on his jump shot especially from 3. (No surprise to hear his dad is a coach because he's very fundamentally sound) If he measures anywhere near 6'10" (meaning at least 6'8") by the time he starts college, with some solid post moves on both sides of the block, shoots with both hands and can step out 20 feet to stretch the floor, I like everything about his game.

I would be interested to know exactly how tall he is. Any pics out there we can match him up with?

Impressed and like other posters turned to blown away when he showed the left hand, had to rewind and make sure he was right handed on his other shots. It looked that smooth. Damn now I am going have to put Oskaloosa on my bucket list of high school games to see this winter.

What else does your magic 8 ball say? Projecting how a group of 14, 16, and 18 year olds will play with other unknown players four years down the road is quite the feat.

Well that's exactly what a college coach has to do. Much can change between now and 2020, but this guy has things you can't teach (height and coordination). If he grows to 6-11 and continues a normal progression of strength, he will be a very highly ranked player. The list of guys with his attributes is small.

If this guy doesn't make it, it will be because of injury/disease or not caring about bb anymore.

I used Barnes because he would have been an obvious early target had Fran just taken over when he was coming into HS. I'm not comparing this offer to Barnes, or Bonifas as a direct comparison of talent.

I've always been a fan of early offers to Iowa recruits showing a lot of potential as youngsters. It's fairly low risk and high reward, if they continue developing into outstanding prospects, and choose the Hawkeye's.

agree 100% ... your "low risk & high reward" is what I meant by "without serious consequences"...you just said it better.

Per an interview with his bball trainer, the offers are starting to pile up for this young man. His future is extremely bright and his skill set already way above average for a player his age. Hopefully, he sticks with the Hawks and commits early like Pemsl did.

IMHO it's not that his skills are way above average for ANY player his age but that they are way above average for a player of his height.

Latest article on him. The word's getting out! Iowa State in Oskaloosa tonight. Too bad Xavier wants to play for Iowa! Also, says he's 6'9" in his socks. Someone had asked earlier.

This is what I like about this article:
“I give Iowa credit. I give them all the credit in the world because they could have said they were going to wait a couple of years to see how it goes. But they bit on it and they never wavered. Their family gives them kudos for it but they got a good recruit out of it.

His grandfather and his mom’s brother in law played at Iowa. So, they’re big fans of Iowa. When I asked Xavier what school he wanted to go to the first thing he said was Iowa,” Greer [his coach] said.

Also, 6'9" in socks at 14 almost certainly means a good inch or more in growth.

Shoot I grew 10 inches between 14 and 20. Now I doubt this dude is going to be 7'7" but not at all crazy that he might still grow some.

Everyone needs to watch the first video on this link. He's got blue blood talent written all over him. Unreal Iowa could be so lucky that he's an Iowa fan. Now we need that elite pg Fran has so desperately needed in his tenure and lookout.

Not much to dislike about that kid. The best part is how well he moves, at 6'10, at 14 yrs old! Kids like that are typically gangly and not able to move that size very well or slow and plodding.

Hope we get him. Watching him do those post moves, they would work in games for sure. He was hitting shots with little effort.

At first I was like "not bad. Kinda gangly and slow......for a big time prospect....." then I realized he is a freshman. Whoa. That kid is going to be legit.

I don't think we have to worry about Roy. Opposed to Paige it seems that Foster has grown up a Hawkeye fan. And more important we have Fran McCaffery as our coach instead of Todd Lickliter. Some of the so-called blue bloods came calling with Joe Wieskamp as well as Iowa State for that matter ... didn't matter.

I don't know when Foster will verbal but it wouldn't surprise me its sooner than later. As many have posted in the past ..you could see Fran's recruiting was a work in progress and now we see it paying off....what we don't see is as many post claiming Fran is not able to close the deal.

The feelings of Iowa high school kids about playing for Iowa has turned around over the past several years... and that's to the credit of Fran McCaffery & his staff.

Welp, I sure hope ur right.. I would say over the past 20 years Roy has come to Iowa and plucked our best & I'm talking about the few McDonalds all American types..

some posters might say they wished Roy Boy would have got Woody ...Not me.... In the end..who got him? Not Roy.

Yes Alford & Lickliter did not do very well securing the few Iowa McDonalds...such as Paige & Barnes...in the case of Paige ..it was pretty much a done deal when Fran arrived. We will never know what would have happen if Fran had arrived soon enough to recruit Paige in the beginning.

Some are suggesting that Roy & even the likes of Duke made contact with Wieskamp...who got him?

Will Foster be the next Iowa McDonalds? who knows ... but I believe its no longer going to be a walk in the park for Roy to do his plucking...as it was when Alford & then Lickliter were our coaches.

It sounds like he's a legit 6'9" in socks.

Even if he were 15 and 6'4"

Yeah but this time two years ago many were giving Coach McCaffery two more years to get the job done. He missed all the time. It shouldn't take four years to rebuild. Nebraska was passing us. We couldn't recruit Chicago. Illinois was out recruiting us. Some of our 2012 recruits were busts (won 89 games in their careers). Hoiberg, Hoiberg and more Hoiberg. And even a year ago, no way we'd get Cook. Looking back, as it turns out, all the black and gold glasses, Kool-Aid drinking, too optimistic, unrealistic, stars don't matter that much, Oooooh...wouldn't it be great to have a chat in some of those threads again. :D

As it turned out, we had one Lickliter type year and then 8-10, 9-9, 9-9, 12-6,12-6 in the Big Ten. One could say that turn-around that many were wondering about two years ago had happened, took one year, and since then the rest has just been steady improvement. The only questions remaining are when the next step comes in the NCAA's, and how much better can Fran take this program?

The last five years? 50-40 in the Big Ten That's a .556 winning percentage. Dr. Tom? .543. Lute Olson? .562

To piggy back off of that it's a bit funny but Illinois continues to out recruit us.
The past 10 years Illinois is at the top tier in the league landing 4 star players. I think Indiana, Ohio State, Illinois, Purdue and Michigan State lead the way as far as recruiting rankings and landing 4/5 star players.
But now consider number of B1G championships, Final 4 runs, winning in general and Illinois has done the worst coaching job in the B1G by far.

I think if Fran were at Iowa at the time, we would have actually had a shot at Barnes.....pretty fun style to plan in and I think the biggest sell for Fran is his assistants...they are top-notch in my opinion and have provided much needed stability

Does Xavier's school play Patrick's?

I think Oskaloosa is 3A or 2A. West is 4A for sure. So unlikely but it's not uncommon for teams in different classes to play each other.

I'd love to see West play Muscatine NEXT year. Weiskamp vs Pat!
