Question Michigan and Maryland. Other than those 2, seems about right having not seen any of the teams in action.

Iowa was picked to finish as high as 7th and as low as 16th on individual ballots.
I can honestly see this team finishing in the top 5 if there are no significant injuries and everybody pans out (which almost never happens).

If pure on paper talent wins out in every instance (which almost never happens):

1. Indiana
2. Purdue
3. Ohio State
4. Illinois
5. Michigan State
6. Rutgers
7. Oregon
8. UCLA
9. Iowa
10. Maryland
11. Michigan
12. Washington
13. USC
14. Wisconsin
15. Nebraska
16. Northwestern
17. Minnesota
18. Penn State

Could be top 5. Could be a bubble season.

Michigan's new coach brought in a bunch of talent from FL Atl. along with others. Impossible to project some teams with massive turnover.
Box of chocolates mystery teams everywhere.
I am not a fan of this free agency landscape but it does inject some curiosity early on just trying to assess new rosters.

IF the B1G does get 10 teams into the NCAA Tournament, this 11th place prediction simply says Iowa is considered an NCAA Tournament bubble team

I am not up-to-date with the other teams, but I am very confident that this Iowa team has the players and balance to be a clearly better team than last year. How that translates into wins and losses is hard to say. Barring injuries, I think I would bet that Iowa finishes at least .500 in the B1G, and hopefully better.

With that optimism, I don't think Payton is the second best player in the league, while Freeman and Dix should be almost as highly regarded as Payton.

Dix is a hell of a scorer and a better defender than Payton, he's just streaky. Dix has a very high ceiling, and fans should be legit excited about what he can become. I think Freeman may not stand out as much this year. Because of transfers, the league is chock full of very talented bigs now.

May brought in only one player from Florida Atlantic: Vlad Goldin.

I mostly agree, but with Tony gone, Josh is going to get more attention from opposing defenses. The wild cards for Iowa are the play of the PGs and the PFs. I am very confident that replacing Krikke and Patrick with Traore and Demble (and the freshmen) will be an overall huge plus, especially on the interior defense and the boards. PG is harder to assess. Thelwell and Harding are probably better ballhandlers and distributors than Perkins was, but when Tony came to play, his aggressiveness on the boards and driving to the basket made things happen. We shouldn't need a lot more than great ballhandling/distributing the ball and solid defense from the PGs, with the ability to make teams guard them, to be successful. Let's stay healthy and see whether Fran becomes a little different coach now that he is the only Mac on the team.

I'm going to say 7th, and a 9 seed in the dance. Fran has a way of over performing in the standings based on the preseason predictions. Of course they probably lose in the first round of the tournament.

Payton on playing with his younger brother, Pryce again this season:

"It's a dream come true. ... Seeing the way he's progressed from last year to this year -- he's going to play a big role on this team."

"The last few days and hours before I made my decision, I was thinking to myself 'When am I going to play with the kid I played with in the driveway again?'"

Fran McCaffery on the point guard spot between Brock Harding and Drew Thelwell:

"They're going to play a lot and they can play together -- that's what I like about them. Drew is the winningest player in Morehead history, and a veteran. Brock is hungry and really worked hard this summer. ... He's shooting the rock well. He'll be an even better shooter [this year]."
