Iowa recruited Audi

Crooks played ksu and 6’6” Ayoka Lee last year and she had 20 and 9 and 14 and 7 on the road as a freshman against a 5th year senior.

Good enough?
Let’s see how she does next week vs U Conn. They have decent bigs that will force her to shoot something besides 2 ft bunnies.

The story I was told is that while being recruited, Iowa coaches gave her a workout/nutrition plan with the idea of n improving her conditioning and athleticism. It was taken by her and her mom as a slap in the face. Just what I’ve heard, from a connected Iowa State guy

She is very skilled. If she could drop 50 lbs and improve her conditionining, she'd be the NCAA Player of the Year.
I’d be curious if that would work to her benefit. Her conditioning would improve if she was lighter but I feel like she uses her size / weight to her advantage. Almost like the Lakers version of Shaq.

Too bad, I think she’s a terrific basketball player, but her health is most important. That ball right beside her that she couldn’t even make an attempt on was almost sad to see. I think it’s shitty as a human being and disingenuous as a fan to pretend like she’s only good because of her weight, with that said it would do a great deal of good to lose some..

She does have some nice moves and shots in close. BUT I think the refs don't call a lot of fouls she deserves on her. She is so big, she just barely leans a little or turns and her shoulder just knocks opponents back a step or 2.

NBA reference, lol? Don't accuse someone of hate just because they have a different opinion. I believe I did post how I felt. Have a hard with reading comprehension?
Can’t run 3 mins without sucking air and needing out? lol. That’s not an opinion. It’s an intentional falsehood. You’ve already outed yourself. Which is always helpful. Know what oaf means?

"She is skilled." Really? I guess I blinked and missed it. She is the size of a barn. She can't run the floor at . . . all. She plants under the basket and shoots layups. She can't jump. She's slow. She can't shoot outside 2 feet. If Iowa did, indeed, recruit her, it was awesome that she went to Ames because her only "skill" is her incredible girth.

SMH. No. She has excellent footwork, soft hands, and very solid hand eye coordination to go along with her size. Iowa would take her in a heartbeat.

Everyone saw what happened to her game with 6'2" HS on her for awhile last night so you can imagine what a 6'4" or taller athlete would do against her. I prefer a player who can get up and down the floor and play more than 3 minutes without sucking air she has to sit. She is skilled if you consider moving into defenders on picks without getting called and bulling herself back back back until she can lay it in. Didn't want her then don't want her now or tomorrow. And we're 2 and 0

Everyone saw what happened to her? She had 31 and 10. What a horrible game.

If that was true - wouldn’t it be 4 vs. 5 every time up the court? That would seem to be an unfair advantage and a blow out….

She was gassed by the end of the game.

She was. She also played 35 minutes vs us throwing 3 different people at her the entire game because nobody could slow her down. And she’s 100% the focal point of their offense. Freeman played 26 minutes last night and was also absolutely gassed at the end of last nights game.

Let's agree on the following.

Audi Crooks is really good.

Typically overweight people struggle with cardiovascular health and overall endurance.

Audi Crooks seems to do better with these things than most.

It is going to be difficult to sustain.

It is a Hawkeye state.

I heard a similar story. Apparently, Audi likes to eat. 😉

I may have my facts wrong, but I think her father died during her junior? year of high school.
So being closer to her remaining family could have been a factor as well.

She does have excellent footwork around the basket and a decent shot. Needs to work hard on her free throw shooting. It can't be healthy to play, weighing that much. ISU's coaches aren't doing her any favors. She needs a nutrionist.

I heard the same thing. Also heard they told Iowa no she didn't need to do this and Iowa back off on the recruiting her a little bit

2 things can be true at the same time. Audi is very effective in the post, her size allows her to maintain her positioning and bury her defender. Once she gets the ball its very difficult to block or affect her shot (especially when she turns over her left shoulder).

However, Audi is also very limited. She can't defend anywhere outside the post, so that forces ISU to play zone more than they would like. She really struggles to defend the pick-and-roll.

She is good not great rebounder. She will get most rebounds in her reach, but can't move well enough to rebound outside her area. This is not that uncommon for college posts. Monica C also struggled in this area. Audi is probably a better rebounder than Monica.

Her conditioning is obviously an issue. She can't really play more than 25 minutes without really slowing down. She can't be a part of any transition offense. The injury risk is very real. It would be a major surprise if she is able to finish her career without a major injury. Even smaller injury issues will also be an issue. The second half vs Iowa she was noticeably grimacing and stretching out her lower back several times.

Again, she will certainly be putting up big numbers while on the court, but she has limits and limits what her team can do both offensively and defensively. I feel like ISU would be better off featuring Addy Brown and Emily Ryan. Addy Brown could be a superstar.

So, while Audi Crooks is undeniably a talented, productive player, I'm glad she is not at Iowa. If she can stay healthy, she might rewrite many parts of the ISU record-book, but I doubt that ISU advances much past the sweet 16.
