Grimaldi’s in Ankeny across the street from Jethros adds a 4% fee - even if you pay with cash! Went 1 time - will never go again.

The original Grimaldis in Brooklyn is outstanding. The franchise locations are very meh.
I just don't like wasting food and if I eat too much in one sitting, my stomach won't forgive me for days.
This was in early 2024 - wasnt long after it opened. When our waitress was questioned about it - she said it is so that they can pay the cooks more. When we questioned it again as that explanation didnt seem right - she said she would go talk to the manager. Whens she came back, she still couldnt really explain what it was for. But even if we paid cash - the 4% was going to be applied.
I have no idea if they are still doing it.
The key to solving this problem is to not look at your itemized receipt. Win/win.
Honestly…..If any BBQ joint had to rely on my patronage for survival, there would be more Casey’s pizza sold. I am not a fan of BBQ….I do like a couple of their sandwiches (pulled pork) and their red beans and rice….and breakfasts, though….and their locations are convenient for me, too.

People just don't think. Restaurants have been raising prices non stop for 3 or 4 years now. Don't bring attention to yourself and just raise everything on the menu 3% instead of adding that stupid tag on the bottom. 90% of people don't even notice it happens all the time. Idiot. Only been there once and wasn't a fan. It was very busy though.
I still can’t believe this made the news. The guy got his drinks for half price because it was happy hour and then when he noticed a 21 cent surcharge he complained to the local news channel and for whatever reason they decided his story was worth airing.

My guess is the Coralville Jethro’s doesn’t make it through 2025. Parking lot is pretty empty whenever I drive by there anymore. As already stated, besides the portions the quality is low grade dog food. Add a dash of the owner going full on MAGA potato and I’m guessing Iowa’s best county will reject the virus. Go to Pop’s!
We can't keep BBQ restaurants in the Cedar Rapids area at all. Even the chains fall through. In the past two years Sugar Fire closed, Q dogs, there was a place down town on the river that didn't make it a year and another chain off of Boyson that closed last year. It sucks, I like BBQ.
I did see that Willy Rays is opening a new spot over on the westside of CR. I'm glad to see he's still doing pretty well. Big fan of his food and a bigger fan of him as a person.
Not as annoying as the places where I order at the counter, get my own soda refills, expected to put my tray on top of the trash bin, but the payment screen asks for a tip with “no tip” not on the initial screen.
