Iowa restaurant receives backlash after adding ‘inflation fee’

I did see that Willy Rays is opening a new spot over on the westside of CR. I'm glad to see he's still doing pretty well. Big fan of his food and a bigger fan of him as a person.
Yeah he's probably best in town followed by Bandana's and up in smoke.

Not as annoying as the places where I order at the counter, get my own soda refills, expected to put my tray on top of the trash bin, but the payment screen asks for a tip with “no tip” not on the initial screen.

They want 20% for bringing my food out.
Those are the best places, I don't have to wait on you to check on me for a refill, when I'm done I don't have to wait yet again for you to bring me a check. It's get in, get my food and tea and get out when I'm done.

I don’t mind the concept. Asking for a tip should be illegal.

LOL - Translation = He likes his mom's cum.

I’m not quite sure what’s going on here, but I think you may be trolling about Jethro's.

I had Jethro’s for the first time last summer while in the Des Moines area. I was very, very confused because it was average at best. And by average, I mean by Iowa standards. I’m not going to compare an Iowa BBQ joint to say Tennessee or North Carolina. It’s just not fair.

I was confused because this place has been hyped up over the years and the BBQ left me unsatisfied. The BBQ (brisket and pulled pork) was very dry. It definitely needed the sauces. I was a little put off to be honest and it’s probably because of how hyped up it gets sometimes. To me, it was subpar BBQ masked with sauces. Sauce should complement the meat, not carry it.

You should be able to eat the meat on its own and it be flavorful, tender and moist. Could it have been a bad day? Sure. But good BBQ joints don’t have bad days. A major part of a good BBQ joint (any restaurant really) is consistency.

With that said, there is better BBQ in Iowa than Jethro’s. I can name a couple places in Cedar Rapids that put Jethro’s to shame.

Why did you go there?

I don't know. This will no doubt make other restaurants think twice before making a similar move.

If the owner hadn’t pickled his brain in booze and MAGA rot he’d have realized it was a bad idea from the start. Instead, he was trying to recoup some $ and be cute about it. Alas, some people need to touch the fire to know it’s hot.

It’s trash. But make it a big plate of trash and the Ioway masses shove it in their gullets with glee.

In CR? Willy4Life bruv.

I have yet to try his BBQ. Kind of waiting for him to open his new spot (I don’t think it’s open yet). A lot of people swear by it. Plus, he’s a great human being.

On a related note, I was looking at the menu for Joe's Seafood in Chicago last night and stumbled upon this at the bottom of their online menu....

Surcharge

As a way to offset rising costs, we have added a 3.5% surcharge to all checks. You may request to have this taken off your check should you choose.

What's the move here? Ask to have the surcharge removed and look like a cheap ass or keep your mouth shut and pay it?
