Iowa State is the choice

Sour grape not a good color on you lil buddy. Chin up!
Since when is stating the facts sour grapes? What is isu better at than Iowa other than cross-country and women’s volleyball?

Football?
MBB by losing to Iowa and leaving the NCAA tourney earlier?
Wrestling?

Would be fascinated to know how isu has a better Athletic Department.

Not going to get them all. It’s his choice and I wish him the best. It’s what we do from here now that counts.

Xavier's mom alluded to the fact that ISU putting more players into the NBA in recent years may have been the deciding factor. I'm paraphrasing but she indicated that may have nudged Xavier to ISU.

That in itself is a red flag to me. Seems the young man cares more about the NBA than playing for a team. Had talent so hate to see him become a Cyclone, guess he really wasn't a Hawk fan after all.

Bit surprised he chose the Clones after coming to the game Friday night. That made no sense to me.

JFC...why do you think guys pick Iowa over other teams when it comes to football? Hint: it's not the water tower and it's not the weather.

They are clearly better at basketball than we are. Not even debatable, looking at the past decade or so at least.

So we need to pick and choose the years they were better than Iowa? I argue Iowa was better than isu last year.

Last year, yes. But I said DECADE. That is not cherry picking years like you just did. The difference between the two programs is obvious. If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you.

Last year was the most recent. It was a clown fan saying I had sour grapes. I simply replied asking how is stating facts having sour grapes?

Where did I say that wasn't the case? Not sure why you quoted me, I merely passed along what Xavier's mom said.

This is horseshite. Cook, Joe T., Jok? If you don't like Fran's sideline demeanor, maybe turn your attention to field hockey. Or better, debate. I agree with most that the optics of losing Foster are bad. But I doubt Iowa would have won any more games with Foster than without him. The pressure on Foster to be a star at Clownville will be huge, as it would have been in Iowa City. Let's see what happens.
Jok wasn't a big time recruit after he got hurt in HS, but he turned out well. Cook Fran's 1 really good recruit who didn't grow up an Iowa fan or is not related to him. There are a couple of guys like Aaron White who turned out to be pretty great finds.
Overall, I just think we have seen what Fran is and what he can be at a major university. He's better than Lick, but that's a low bar to clear. Fran is better suited for schools like Sienna. He's just not a great Division I coach. I appreciate the work he did to bring us out of darkness, but we are now on the downward swing again. I'm tired of our AD and a portion of our fan base settling for mediocre because, "hey, it could be worse".

Jeezus.

One year doesn't make a program. That would be like in 1998 saying that ISU had a better football program than Iowa because they were better than us that one year. Come on. You know better.

Sustain it for a few more years then I'll change my opinion.

I didn't. responded to the poster saying Xavier thinking about the NBA was a red flag.

Fran missed his chance about year 2 -4.

He had a chance to land potentially Montee Morris, EC Mathews, and Wes Washpun and screwed it up.

He loaded up to quickly on mid major level guard talent out of the gate. And hes done multiple times since then.

You have a window to sell hope and future results, by year 4 you need to have built momentum.

Fran never built any momentum and now there's far to long a track record of mediocrity to interest good recruits.

Luckily for Fran and Kirk, Bartas perfed status quo is stable mediocrity.

Yeah, upon reflection 2013 looks like the year Fran should have made some huge strides. He only had one scholly available though because he filled out the 2012 class with two terrible recruits. If he had banked those two instead of reaching, this program would be in a much different place. Matthews was all but ours and Fran chose Jok instead. Marble put Morris right on Fran's doorstep and he turned him away. I believe Washpun transferred from Tennessee a year earlier and his relationship with Iowa had soured by that time for whatever reason.

Fair enough but then my original statement holds true that Iowa has a better Athletic Department than isu and it isn’t even close. Maybe that will change over the next decade but I am guessing it won’t just like it hasn’t for the last 50 years.

In my opinion xf will never be a game changer in college and will not play in the nba. Too soft. Time will tell but I just don't see it.

Do you think Carver will suddenly be full if Chris Jans was hired tomorrow? Of course not. If Gary thought that there were a reasonable path to a better program he would act on it. Our fans don’t care enough and get what they deserve.

Make them care, every time there has been the big game in CHA under Fran and its a sell out...Iowa craps the bed.

Well, that was the first of five straight ISU wins in the series. I'm perfectly willing to say Iowa has the better football program now. I don't necessarily believe it deep down, but my all the reasonable criteria, it's a defensible statement. Just as I don't think a reasonable argument can be made that ISU isn't a better basketball program now than Iowa.

I'm not all that upset about his choice. Foster was not a national recruit and I think we will be all right without him. I do wish him all the best. Next man in.
Kinda my thoughts, as well. I'm just not convinced a 7 footer that doesn't like to play under the basket is going to make it in a P5 conference.

We should all know in 2 years.

Didnt they beat a Michigan team at home like last year?

I knew that would be someone’s first response.

-Wisconsin 2018
-Michigan StAte 2019
-Maryland 2019
-Michigan StAte 2015
-Wisconsin 2016
-Indiana 2016

That is just going back a few seasons and omitting two years.

I don't think playing at Iowa State has anything to do with going to the NBA NBA your either a player or you're not no matter where you play your college ball.

As I said... we'll know in a few years. I was hesitant to post that because it sounds bitter. Really isn't intended that way.

I am not talking about just him. Bigs who are more perimeter oriented are all over the game now.

Joe T and Jok were not big time recruits at all.

Both had few to no other major conference offers.

Jok turned out well hope Joe does too but to characterize them as big recruits is wrong.

I think Jok was shaping up to be until he hurt his knee.

I don't recall seeing any P5 offers for Joe outside of Iowa.

Iowa has had a better football program over the past twenty years. Matt Campbell has closed that gap.

Iowa State has had a better basketball program over the past ten years. Steve Prohm has closed that gap.

Good grief, man, this isn't 1986. I'm not saying Foster is or isn't an NBA-caliber player, but the NBA has a lot of 6'10"+ guys who play on the perimeter.
I'm specifically referring to XF after reading the comments about his personal game for the last two years.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Jok was heavily recruited by Fred, and was said to be leaning that way, until Lefty Moore violated NCAA rules and ISU cut off the recruitment.

I think Joe would have had more offers if he hadn't been considered Iowa's from the start. He certainly is a player.

Joe T looks good. Time will tell.

I remember hearing about Jok as a potential Top 50 recruit until he hurt his knee. I have little doubt he would have committed to Hoiberg.

Heck, Jok might be in the NBA right now if Lefty hadn't screwed up and Jok could have played at ISU. ;)

Yeah, but those players can shoot, dribble drive and hit fadeaways at an elite level. Otherwise, you're looking at Jarrod Uthoff.
