Iowa State is the choice

"We didn't want him anyway..."

Guess we don't need any Top 60 recruits or whatever he was rated? Nationally. Not sure how that doesn't make him a "national" recruit.. Whatever that means, anyway.
It means schools like Michigan State, North Carolina, Kentucky and other blue bloods did not extend Foster an offer. Sure, if he wanted to come to Iowa I would have been happy about it but I don't see him as a difference maker for the program.

give me a final four ring and you can yell at me longer than I would let Fran. Winning at a high level makes up for a lot of things.
I could even stomach Fran yelling at me if he could get me to the second weekend of the Big Dance.

Didn't Foster have an offer from Kansas? I would say that's about as blue blood as you can get. No matter how you want to spin it, this is a huge recruiting loss for Fran. No, Joe. T was not a big-time commit. His only other major offers were UNLV and Wichita State. The Wichita State offer tells me more as they have been very good and Gregg Marshall obviously knows what he's doing. Let's not forget that Joe Wieskamp was a big-time get. This far into his tenure I think we all know what Fran is and what our position in the pecking order will be, which is slightly above average for the most part.

Apparently Kansas and UCLA aren't blue bloods now? And his injury this year hurt his chances of getting additional offers.

So prospects have to have an offer from a blue blood to be a difference maker?

Kansas recruiting isn’t what it normally is at the moment. Since we know Foster’s criteria was NBA alumnus there’s no question the choice would have been Kansas over ISU if Kansas was a can’t miss landing spot for top 50 recruits at the moment. Self has tried to mitigate this by offering fringe 100 players but it looks like even that won’t save his class. So, point being blue bloods without significant penalties possibly in the pipeline didn’t offer him.
This didn’t mean he isn’t a very good recruit with a high possible ceiling, but program carrying like Wieskamp he isn’t currently.

I did not watch the announcement and don't follow the recruiting sites carefully, but weren't all of the sites predicting Iowa the last few days? That had me feeling much more positive about getting Foster. Anyone have insight into what happened?

Lol, Self offered Foster a long time ago before any hint of penalties and they are the favorite to land 5 star Bryce Thompson.
Again, he had really good offers, and would have had more if he hadn't gotten injured this summer. And yes, UCLA is a blue blood.

Very disappointing, but I'm not surprised at all. ISU has a better basketball program than Iowa does. It usually has better players, it has far better fan support and is competitive in the conference on a regular basis.

When a kid publicly says my family and I are Iowa fans but we felt Iowa State is a better opportunity, there isn't a lot of mystery to what he thinks of the Iowa coaches.

Well, there is SOME mystery. Maybe he liked the coaches equally, but the entirety of the program better at ISU.

I hope this doesn't become "Fran yells too much, so Foster went to ISU".

This is a good Hawkeye team we are watching. I will go on record and say we will be atleast a 6 seed in the ncaa tournament. Relax and enjoy your hawks victory tonight.
It's way too early to say this is a good team. I hope they are, but they need some more games under their belt.

I'm sure Fran's temper rubs some people the wrong way. How much it factored into Xavier's thinking is anyone's guess.

The bottom line is whatever Fran is selling top recruits aren't buying. This very much is a reflection on Fran. Missing out on Xavier is not an isolated case. Top recruits continue to say, "thanks, but no thanks."

The fact Xavier is publicly saying he's an Iowa fan tells you all you need to know. I'm not sure how it can be interpreted any way other than he doesn't have enough confidence in Fran. Companies pay good money for customers to take surveys on attitudes and spending habits. This kid offered solid feedback on what he and other top recruits think of Fran's program. The underlying message is clear, at least to me.

Kids are saying "no" to the Iowa program, not necessarily just to Fran. And, as I stated initially, ISU's program is better than Iowa's. Yes, Fran is the head of the program, but some of the issues run a little deeper than just Fran.

I'm not defending Fran. He's not getting it done with top recruits and that's disappointing, because I do think he works hard at it.

Everyone in my family has a degree from Iowa, but if my son was a 4 star recruit, I would have a hard time convincing him that Iowa is the smart choice.

He infrequently yells at refs, very rarely players. Players support him more than most players elsewhere support their coaches.

Wasn't jok the top ranked player in the country for a while in his younger years?

Yes, he was a top 10 player nationally at one point. He then tore his patellar tendon in high school, which is a terrible injury. It's a small miracle that he was as good as he was in college. I don't think most people come back from that injury. That's why he lost so much of his explosiveness and athleticism from his earlier years.

Bingo! Should be a huge red flag, but our gutless AD won’t make a move because our old basketball coach was worse. Better to be safe and kind of suck instead of taking the chance of really sucking according to GB.

I don't know what to make of Barta. He's either incredibly stupid or incredibly indifferent.

Or too arrogant to admit his hire didn't work out.

I think it’s more of a “Fran is a mediocre coach and recruits don’t see Iowa putting players in the NBA or the program having much success so Foster went to ISU” thing. The yelling is a side note that gets called out because sometimes it gets embarrassing when he acts like an a-hole and only makes things worse when the team is a dumpster fire.

We don’t kind of suck. Come on.

No, he has a boss. And he has to live by the rules. Iowa's philosophy is not just winning, but graduating and doing it right.

People complain about CHA not being Hilton. Know what, go out and support the kids that do want to represent Iowa. CHA can be an electric place when the fans get out and support the team.

If we do that, kids will come. They most definitely will come.

I think to say the he "infreguently" yells at refs is an understatement and I remember his going off plenty on his players. I am not saying the players never deserve it. I saw him go off on them a couple of times last season and they responded. However, I am not a fan of Fran McCaffery as the coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes. I have witnessed him get so mad at the refs that his coaching of the game suffers. After all, Fran has his own angry meter called "Francon"

His stats aren’t off the chart other than blocks and rebounds. Those two are inflated in High School ball. Can’t coach someone to be 7’. Shooting % field goal and FT not that good.

It’s easy to point the finger at Fran and in fact that’s what we do at Iowa. Single out one factor, usually the coach and call it good.

I think this is a blessing in disguise as it gives us chance to evaluate all factors from AD, to coach, to program investment, to outdated arena, to fan support and university support for athletics. I think the symptom is recruiting misses but the true issues are all of the above. Changing one thing, changes only a small piece of the puzzle but does not move us forward.

That is funny! How about Lazard playing the position he wants to play in the NFL? He can’t stand Iowa so he was never going to play there.

Not everyone can play TE at Iowa but those that do usually end up being drafted. Can the same be said about clown WR’s?

Yikes

He is getting paid to play and will have a long career, and loves his Alma mater. ISU is putting skill position players in the NFL....Iowa not so much ....Yikes
