Iowa State was 2-22 last yr...

I agree with you. This is more a shot at clown fans that were constantly crying about Iowa winning football games with defense and special teams. Calling it the most boring football ever. Of course now that they are doing the same thing with basketball all of a sudden winning with defense is “exciting”.
Yes. It's not all fans, but definitely a vocal sub-set, at least online. As other poster said, teams just don't win a lot if they don't defend. Being good at offense too is a benefit. Someday Iowa fans will be able to cheer for a team that competes on the defensive end.

I loved the way Dr. Tom’s teams played where full court press turned into easy offense. Now if you could combine Frans ability to draw up set plays and run a half court offense with great defense and rebounding that Dr. Tom’s teams had, then you would have a very entertaining and highly successful team. Too bad getting this is easier to type up than actually implement.

Boring ball goes back to the 1940’s again. Clowns score a whopping 23 points in first half against Tech.

Purdue-Illinois yesterday had nothing on this amazing Tech-isu game because clown fans say so.

So “exciting”.

Can you believe Tech was favored by 8 going into this game? No way clown fans and Chrissy Williams said.

With 7 mins to go the clowns do have 40 points, tecb has 60. I guess the clowns struggle when the other team doesn’t turn it over 25 times.

As CyTwit would say YIKES.

“So exciting”.

Cryclown fans whining about officiating on cryclown fanatic is more dependable than the sun rising in the east.

“It’s not fair”. “We’re the Bear”.

ISU is finding out winning on the road isn’t nearly as easy as winning in Hilton. Still not sold on their style of ball and I think anointing their new coach the next great messiah was a little premature.

Blaming officials for every loss is so ISU.

Doesn't matter the sport... it's always the refs.

Love the defensive philosophy of hack, grab and hope. Hack em when they shoot, grab em when the cut and hope the refs don’t call it. If they do no worries, clown fans will cry about how un-fair it is when the refs call the game according to the rules.

“So exciting”.

While true, they’re also playing really damn good teams. The Big 12 is legitimately as good this year as any conference has ever been. There is not one Nebraska in the whole league. 8-10, even 7-11 in the Big 12 locks ISU into the NCAAs.

They’ve lost on the road to OU, Kansas, and TT. Not a bad loss in the bunch, by a long shot.

This. Anyone saying otherwise is wearing black and gold colored glasses. Cmon guys, they beat us by 20 and held us to 50. To go from 2-22 to where they are now is pretty good. Now if they continue to spiral and start losing games at home we can talk. I'm guessing the Big 12 winner is going to have 5 losses. There's not a bad team in the league. I don't love that style of play but I wouldn't mind seeing a little bit more defense from our team!

This is true. The Big 12, for the most part, plays good defense but very lackluster offense. They are the basketball version of B1G football. Nothing wrong that but they are very hypocritical with their observations

Iowa State is better, like the Big 12 conference. Good but not great team. I still hate them.

Funny how clown fans were just fine running their mouths about how boring Iowa football was this fall and now that it is coming back at them for basketball they get all testy, defensive and whiny.

Why is that?
Because all fans are hypocritical homers?

What I am not sure isu fans understand is that when they get to the NCAA tournament all the hacking, grabbing and pushing that they call defense may get called as fouls just like they did last night.

It is often why WVA is great during the season when their mugging isn’t called and then gets bounced early in the Tournament when officials start calling fouls.

But of course I am sure this doesn’t count in the reality that is accepted by the isu fan base .

You’re on the basketball board….have you read the material here? Very few sunshine pumpers here.
No. I'm talking about being critical of other team's style of play until your team's style of play mimics it. Cyclone fans saying Hawkeye football is boring. Hawkeye fans saying Cyclone basketball is boring. The only reason people typically say these things is because the other team is more successful and they've got nothing else to shoot at.

Tinted* the color of the glasses doesn't matter. It's a metaphor for looking at it through a biased filter, so the tint is the bias in this metaphor. Black and gold tinted glasses.

Just it be clear most my posts in this thread have been to mock the isu fan behavior.

isu is winning games with defense and if that is what gets them “excited” so be it.

I expected the Hawks to take a step back this year from last year. While there has been a step back it hasn’t been as big as I expected. There is still time for them to fall way back but I am hoping the depth is continuing to develop and make this a competitive Iowa basketball team.

You asked the question. I just provided what I believe is the correct answer. I think both teams are surprising but for different reasons. ISU going from 2-22 to where they are today is shocking. Gotta be the biggest surprise in basketball so far this year.

Unlike most folks on here, I did not expect the Hawks to take a huge step back this year. I thought Keegan was, if not the best player on the team by the end of the year, the best talent on the team and was underutilized. I thought the athleticism on the court would be much improved resulting in better defense which was Iowa's Achilles heel. That hasn't happened due to some extent to a lack of coaching emphasis but also some of the weaker defenders getting more minutes than expected.

So I guess the bigger surprise to me is how Iowa is doing it. The offense, thanks primarily to Keegan matching Luka's numbers even more efficiently than Luka, continues to hum. The defense and rebounding haven't improved at all and if anything has taken a significant step back which honestly is kind of shocking given the defensive talent today. In any case the team is fun to watch and we just need to accept the defensive limitations going forward.

What happened to Fran's most athletic, defensive minded team yet? Maybe next year...

Yeah. I've just come to the conclusion that strong defense is not something that Iowa does today. Fran's emphasis on pace and offensive efficiency produces great results on that end of the floor but takes away from ever becoming a great or even very good defensive team. Not gonna happen.

At this point it's clear (unfortunately) that Iowa will never even be decent defensively under Fran.

Iowa held their opponent to 48 points tonight. Outstanding!

Iowa scored 46. Not so hot….

At least we got to 60 last night.
